***Mega Merge Grade our Draft thread***

I also give it a B-Plus. About the only fault I have is the fact they took Hitchens at least a round too early, but if he's a scheme fit, it doesn't matter. They hit home runs with Zack Martin and Demarcus Lawrence, and I feel really good about the 7th round picks. Lots of high upside guys there.

Rounds 1 and 2 = A
Rounds 3-7 = D

Overall = C+, if we picked anyone in the 3rd, then I give it a solid B.

C+....3rd and 4th rounds were wasted imo. Could have gotten 2 young contributors on D, instead of nobody and a backup

C: Best pick: Martin likely 10 year starter at a high level. Most likely to bust: Hitchens. Best Value: Mitchell.

Biggest problem I had: In a deep draft only getting two likely starters with 10 picks.

Am I the only one having a hard time digesting this draft? Didn't like how the first three rounds broke, and did not like the pick in the 4th. Liked all the other players, though (including our 1 and 2), and got really good value late.

For an overall deep draft, though, and drawing at a disadvantage early, I have a hard time saying we were anything more than average. I'm going with a C, I think.

WOW, me and you are in complete agreement. How often does that happen. I can't even add anything to what you said. There's hope for one of yet, lol...

C+

I look at process and value. The really expensive trade up in the 2nd smacks of bad process to me (undervaluing their own picks and drafting for need). And no tremendous values happened to fall to us or near us (like Dez a few years ago, for example), at least before the 7th round. In the end, given the expected value from the picks we had, I don't see that we exceeded that expected value in a significant way. Now we wait and see how many and which guys pan out.

I agree Idgit, I have to give them a C also.

Loved the first two picks and then it was like they just started throwing darts at the board.

That 4th round pick is laughable, just a terrible pick. The rest of the guys in the late rounds look like jags and will have to fight hard just to make the roster or practice squad.

So we got 2 day 1 starters to beef up both lines and then a bunch of jags........................that is a C draft to me.

Apart from the Hutchins and W Smith picks i love it.

Solid B.

The late 7th Rd picks saved us and gee we got some good types.

Still a heap of good players still out there as well that went undrafted and this draft was very deep this year.

Skov, Reynolds , Jeffcoat , Roberson , Groy etc etc all are still yet to be given a home and they are good prospects.

I would initially give it a B.
  • I love Martin, great pick. The line will be a strength for years. A+
  • I love Lawrence at the spot he was picked. He has some flaws, but they are very correctable ones imo. Really, really bummed about losing the third pick, but I know I can't have it both ways. There were some good players on the board in that round though, so it sticks with me. B-
  • I will have to rewatch some Iowa games to see if I change my opinion on Hitchens. I like him as depth behind the first wave of linebackers, but picking him at 4 was just too rich for me. C-
  • I like the Devin Street pick. Good get in the 5th. B+
  • I was really impressed with their seventh round picks. I can see Gardner and Bishop develop into good depth players. A

I really don't know much about these guys to give an accurate grade. It appears our first two rounds were liked by most. The middle is tough to get on board and it looks pretty solid late.

Although with a deep draft it seems like they underwhelmed a little. Plus there were some positions I had hoped we have gotten more attention.

I agree with all you said.

I will give the 2014 Cowboys draft a grade: C+

I like the Martin Pick and D Lawrence pick but giving up the 3rd was steep.

Our 4th round selection was a reach and poor value.

Loved the Street pick and most of the latter picks as well especially Bishop!

C-

4th round pick was bad. Giving up your 3rd was really bad. We need bodies to fill all our holes.

B, as in because they haven't played a down in the league I have no idea if they're worth a damn.

Grading from the 7th up is like loving your dog because it's got a nice tail. :)

I actually like all those picks. I do like our draft. It's just that--looking at other teams--I like a lot of drafts better than ours.

Like the rams....

Having said that. Love Martin Demarcus and Street.

IMO, we did not truly address out biggest weakness which was defense. We got a sure thing in Martin but we really needed a sure thing on defense and I don't believe we came close. Would have loved to see us give Romo some competition and again that did not happen.

C
