I'm sorry, but what has Sweed done lately, except for get hurt, and rehurt?
He hurt his wrist back before the season started, tried to play through it, eventually (in his own words) the bone was close to protruding through the skin, and he had to shut it down for the last half of the season... then, about a week after the cast came off, he made a tactical mistake, he shouldn't have tried to play in the Senior Bowl...
But it's just a wrist injury, it will heal in plenty of time for him to be ready for some team's training camp...
And before that injury, he had started 39 consecutive games, so it's not like he's been injury prone or anything...
It really is funny, all these people go to trashing Sweed, but few of them ever raise any LEGITIMATE criticisms... they say he's slow, but in high school he finished 6th and then 4th in the state track meet's 100 meter hurdles his last two years... they say he's slow, but he averaged over 15 yards per catch in his college career, and over 30 yards per catch for his 20 career TD catches...
And then some of you point to his injury as if it's some problem that's gonna plague Sweed for the rest of his playing career, or as if it's an indication that he's injury prone, when he's actually been rather durable in his college career...
If you want to criticize a relative lack of production for such a highly rated receiver, I'll grant you that you have a bit of a point there, but even then I'll note that the Horns have had a LOT of other weapons at their disposal during Sweed's time in Austin-- Roy Williams at WR early on, Cedric Benson, Selvin Young and Jamaal Charles at RB, Bo Scaife and Jermichael Finley at TE, Vince Young and Colt McCoy at QB... that's a lot of NFL-caliber talent at the offensive skill positions, all of them needing their touches... this obviously limits the number of opportunities Sweed could have, and is hardly an indictment of his ability...
And for all the Sweed bashing that goes on on these boards here lately, the guy is still rated as a high draft pick, if he runs a decent time (under 4.5 seconds) at the combine or at his Pro Day workout, then he'll be a solid first rounder... so apparently those who make a living evaluating college talent don't go along with the message board consensus re: Limas Sweed...
I would definitely take Manningham over Sweed.
LOL... of the top 10 WRs on this draft board, Mario has easily the highest bust potential...
And Mendenhall would just be icing on the cake.
He's good, but he's too similar to Marion Barber to be a good match for the Boys... now, if the Boys were looking to REPLACE Barber, Rashard would be high on my draft list... but if they plan on keeping Marion around a while, then I'd be looking for a complementary type, either a true sledgehammer, 250 pounds up the gut runner, or a lightning quick waterbug who can get outside, who can catch the football for you... I don't really see any big thumpers that I like all that well, but there are a slew of really good speed backs available-- Felix Jones, Chris Johnson, Jamaal Charles, Steve Slaton...
