Say what you want, Mel Kiper invented the mock draft and was the first "draft expert" who started an industry.

Mel Kiper is good at what he does...studying prospects and the current years NFL team situations and what their needs are...

He is not perfect by any means.

What is frustrating about him is...on Draft Night he gets visibly and verbally frustrated with other panelists because he hates when others talk ignorantly about a subject and that they havent done as much research as him.

Ive seen him get frustrated so many times and make conversations weird because he cant stand when he thinks others in the panel are suggesting something he thinks is stupid. Even if he is right...getting frustrated on tv and making others look bad because he has spent 3 thousand more hours on this stuff than the other guys...is unprofessional, imo.

When he gets frustrated...his rationale makes sense. But...you cant just be on tv getting angry with everyone because they arent the expert that you are. I mean you can...but I will turn the channel quickly. Its a bad look.

I was listening to a mathematician speak about working on some problem that lead to winning like a Nobel Prize or something like that. It was very important math, as in like stuff that can lead to major advancements, but very very far into a rabbit hole of a subject that like only he and 3 other people on Earth were involved in. He spent like 10 years of his life on this work. He mentions that it was rare to ever meet someone that had a basic understanding of what his emphasis was. It was like he couldnt talk to anyone about what he was entrenched in because there was no one else that would understand. Maybe that is how Mel Kiper feels about things involving the draft....and he gets frustrated when others are just spewing ignorant info about it.

Oh, promoting censorship is funny to you. I see.

*Rolls eyes* no where am I saying I'm promoting censorship. Do you have an ability to laugh? I'm more roasting Mel than anything. I don't actually want him sacked. I just enjoy being able to roast him for hilariously bad takes on a regular basis. I have a wide array of humour that allows me to laugh at different things. When I said "how does ESPN still employ him", it's because I think he has a lot of bad takes, and a lot of people share my opinion on this. That said, I'm not asking for him to be sacked, nor am I asking for him to be censored. I wouldn't be able to have a comedy thread based on something he said if I wanted him censored. This will likely not be the last time I roast him.

Rusty doesn't seem to be that kind of guy

Exactly, and it doesn't fit the nature of this thread. Unfortunately, some people can't laugh. We have a team that drives us nuts sometimes, especially with ownership. There seems to be the usual tension on this board. I'm trying to use the comments Mel made to bring some much needed comedy to this board. Unfortunately, I anticipated some would completely miss the jokes on my OP.

True, but I still like to roast him and others at ESPN. As I've stated, this thread was meant to be comedic.

True, and I know he's not perfect. But this take from him was hilariously terrible. I know the QBs he has been promoting haven't worked out, but it's not the safeties' fault. Does he expect defences to just let offenses walk down the field? I know Zimmer does it, but that doesn't mean all 32 teams do.

What WOULD have been a better take and wouldn't have resulted in this thread being written this way would've been if he said QBs on rookie contracts should be required to play with the first team for at least a quarter in all preseason games. That way they get more reps and can hit the ground running better. I would still prefer rookie QBs to sit behind a vet for a bit, but, especially if you're going to start them week 1, you should give them more preseason reps so they can have some game reps. This may help them to read such defences a bit better.

Blimey!
Because we hate him so. Sort of like a savvy media personality who makes outrageous comments to get responses or media attention.

I personally don't hate him. I just wanted to use the occasion of his take to make a comedic thread to try to entertain the board.

He's usually about as right as a weatherman and he's still gotten to keep his job all these years. Kind of insane.

Mel Kipers idea to mandate bringing safeties closer to the line of scrimmage to get rid of the two high safety defense reminds of people who want to outlaw the defensive shift in baseball . In other words you scout a hitters tendencies and shift players into positions the batter is likely to hit to .

The two high safety in football the defensive shift in baseball are nothing more than teams wanting to play sound defense . Now it’s up to you on offense to counteract that plain and simple . Kiper reminds me of Skip Bayless although Kiper does provide insight on the NFL draft , not sure what Bayless brings to the table .
roflmao, banning the defensive shift in baseball has made the last 2 years of baseball VERY VERY much more enjoyable to watch than it had been for a number of years prior. Get with the times dude. The history of all team sports has been a series of rule adjustments to manipulate the game for the enjoyment of fans.
