Charlton was rated top 15 on many "Guru" Draft boards, while Watt was more of a mid-20ish at best most of the time.

Taco is a better fit not only for for the Cowboys and the 4/3 but for our i.e. War Daddy! ...the injuries for T.J. are indeed worrisome especially for a 1st pick kind of player.

Agree with Mel. I think T.J. Watt should have been the pick. He's more talented plays angry, and i thought what put him over the top woukd be pedigree and the fact that the best dlineman in football right now would teach him. I like Taco but he will br a greg ellis kinda player. Solid to good, but not overly exciting or explosive.

I think Watt will be a successful player, but I do not think that he would have been as successful for us as he will be for Pittsburg. He is made to play as a 3-4 OLB. He is too light to be an every down DE in a 4-3.

In a 4-3 he would be a liability against the run likely suffer greater injury frequency. It wasn't a good fit for us unless we were going to run some 3-4 fronts, which I am not opposed to. I really think they should mix them up anyway.

You guys are hung up on the fact that Taco was rated higher but dropped as if that was his real value. Maybe it was.

What is more likely is that they had Taco over rated and they adjusted it as the draft approached based on better intel. Later is probably more accurate since he wasn't drafted until 28. If we hadn't taken him he may have fallen out out the first round.

Obviously they preferred Taco's size and length over Watt and other similar sized DE/edge rushers.

I kind of agree with Mel....was never real high on TC. BUT, I do trust Rod and Will for many obvious reasons. I'm ok with it but was very intrigued by Watt to be honest.

Thing is, TC gives us tremendous position flex that Watt and others don't. That is huge in the NFL.

Probably true that Watt would have wore down in our D. Too light and would have been run at. I said I was intrigued by Watt, and I mean as a pass rusher. He wouldn't have held up against the run. UNLESS he somehow added about 25 lbs of good weight. (could go to his Brother's "doctor" for that I suppose)

Oh, I didn't realize only teams can evaluate.

You do know there are countless times Mel criticized a team's pick and was proven correct, right?

You can relax your foam fist.
hey dweeb, we think Kiper is stupid, and we understand you don't. no sense crying about it.

There was an elite top 5 linebacker on the board at 28 and they passed on him. They didn't go BPA and reached for a position of need. I hope this draft doesn’t end up biting them in the ***.

Draft grades are for entertainment purposes only. We got a C last year, but "regraded" only a year later its an A+. That being said I do enjoy reading them

The best post in this thread. Reflects my thoughts, exactly.

You're talking about Reuben Foster? If so, he had too many red flags, and based on our gamble with Gregory and Smith, we weren't comfortable taking another gamble on a player who may not be available for us this year. And Foster had the triple whammy going against him: 1. Injury 2. Drugs (possibly) 3. Attitude

I wanted Foster too. But I understand the reason we passed on him.

More lingering questions:
It's simple Mel....the Cowboys wanted a bigger true 4-3 DE and that is Taco not Watt. So it doesn't matter who is ranked higher on your board the simple fact it Taco fits the Cowboys defensive system better.
