That team was very young.

This team has most of its players in their prime ... and the offensive line is past its prime.

Plus, that was a dynamic, energetic young coaching staff that was hungry and wasn't willing to settle for a playoff win.
That team came from 1 and 15, and slowly climbed the chart.

2 years ago, we were 13 and 3, then went backwards, then went 11 and 5, so we're all over the place actually.

Jerry refuses to do anything about this offensive line, they love Barber way too much, and until this line becomes a powerhouse pass protecting line like we had in the nineties, we will continue to be happy in the regular season and sad in the post season.

He will do something this offseason.

So we lose a playoff game on the road and suddenly we're the '91 Cowboys on the brink of dynastic greatness? Only at the Zone.

Nooo, it pretty much happens on most every board in some shape or fashion. Well, except for maybe the Raiders or Lions.

:p:

This loss reminds me a bit of 1991...lot of promise coming into road divisional round against Lions...hot team down the stretch with Berlein (sp?) leading us to consecutive wins to get in as wildcard (think we won like 5 or 6 straight coming into that game)...lot of folks calling us a scary team that nobody wanted to play ONLY to get pasted by Barry and that spread offense in a dome where we looked out of it early...of course we know what happened after that...I think in the end we'll look back at this loss as a watershed moment for us to move on and grow from...fingers crossed. Too rose colored view...what say you?

not even close interms of being similar.
other than the blow out score
Cowboys where young and on the rise. with a newer NFL coach

Aikman did not start that game.

this team is mature with a old tired predicatble coaching staff that can not adjust

not even close

I just love how all the overly negative *******s have to come out and piss on anything remotely positive.

I haven't seen one post discussing the start of a dynasty.

The comparison of this loss to 91 is very legit for a few reasons and they have nothing to do with what this team may do over the next four years, yet may have a lot to do with how it responds next year.

Nobody consider the possibility of getting our doors blown off today. Much like 91 if I recall.

I felt terrible after the 91 loss. Still optimistic for the furture, but still miserable and doubted if it would ever happen for us.

Don't start all this BS like any of just knew we were headed for great things after 91. That's BS!

That loss was a disappointment...but I felt great knowing how much that team accomplished...and I was optimistic about the next season.

I also believe that most teams have to learn how to win...and often, you do that in tough losses. I think that loss really was a great learning experience for a very young team.

This team has had more lessons than it needs from big losses. They're clearly not learning from the lessons.

Big difference between 1991 and today.

This isnt really a young team, Romo will be 30 the line are all over 30.

30 is not old for a QB. It's in his prime. With the exception of the OL this is a young team

Only Crayton, Brooking and Newman will be over 30 next year.

Rebuild the OLine (esp at T) Start Free at LT and maybe a guy at G as a FA and we're no longer so long in the tooth.

Hmmm let's see... Romo is 29, will be 30 in April. Felix Jones is only like 23. Mike Jenkins is 23, D-Ware is 26/27, Ratliff is 26. Miles Austin is 25, Roy Williams is 26. Bennett is 22/23, Witten is 27. Olgetree is 23. Yeah they're old...
I don't get the old thing either. Even if they were a little older it doesn't mean a lot because you see some of the same teams in the playoffs every year: San Diego, Indy, New England, Philly and those teams just keep tweaking certain areas with younger players through the draft or getting a veteran for a year or two. It's all about making smart personnel decisions to get to the next level. One area I would like to see improved that no one is talking about is backup QB. I don't want to head into next season with Kitna as the backup. We need someone that can keep it moving if Romo gets hurt because that really affected some teams like the Falcons that missed the playoffs due to their starter getting injured.

I had all the confidence in the world in Jimmy Johnson. I have none in Wade Phillips.

But you could see much of the same thing where the right opponent with the right personnel schemed us perfectly. The Vikings DL is their strength and they exposed our weakness - OL pass blocking. It was a classic case of strength against weakness. In the Detroit game the weakness was poor coverage and lack of pass rush. Detroit with its run and shoot which spread out the field was the perfect team to exploit our deficiencies. This was further exposed by our insistence of playing the base defense to protect against Barry Sanders.

I think this loss shows our OL just isn't good enough. The two players that were really exposed (that we can do anything about) were Colombo and Kosier. If there are appropriate players my first two picks are OG and RT. Free and Flo both did a good job against Allen. The only trouble is Flo is getting old and seems to be falling apart. I don't think we can count upon him anymore. I would not suggest we go ahead thinking he is going to play LT for us anymore. The good part is Free got a good test against one of the premier pass rushers in the game and did an okay job. He will be even better next year. Getting the muscle memory for LT drops versus RT drops will also help him out.

I propose we trade Flo for the best pick we can get and then draft an OL there. We move Free to LT. We ask Houck if Brewster is an OG or RT and whether he would be ready to start next year. We need at least two picks in the first 3 rounds at OL.

It is a shame we gave up on Peterman so early. He is a decent OG now. It is also a shame that Jacob Rogers was such a *****. Those two misses put us back quite a bit. I also wonder why we haven't lucked into a quality OL in the back part of the draft or as a UDFA. We need to keep our ears to the ground more.
