Men's gymastics -- the fix is in

I'm surprsied more ppl aren't yelling about those Chinese 13 yo parading around as 16 yos! Everybody knows they're cheating yet no one will more than whisper about it. Go figure.

Yelling is an exercise in futility. The people you would go to for confirmation of their age are the ones saying they are 16 and have records to show it.

Actually, they might be 16. Maybe there were given drugs like Romanian gymnasts were in the 1970s to put off puberty. Some in those days weren't having periods until they were 18/19 and retired.

Of course, that is not as bad as the East German athlete who was given so many steroids, she literally started to grow a *****.

What are you talking about? Everybody was talking about it. The commentators brought it up many times. The US Men's Coach and other country's coach's brought it up.

Hell, Bela went on a huge long rant talking about how the kids are younger than 16.

Whaaaaaaaaaaaat? I didn't even know that was possible after birth.

As usual the IOC when confronted cuts and runs. There is no way they should have accepted the so called evidence that those kids were 16 when even the official Chinese Newspaper had called one of them 14 less then a year ago.

One reason mentioned for using younger girls is not only their flexibility; they tend to not feel the pressure because they are still fairly unaware of the world. The older you are the more you realize that. I don't think its a coincidence that the oldest "woman" on our team is the one that had the hardest time dealing with the pressure.

I like that one girl who was 3rd on the balance beam for us.......is it Shawn Johnson? She showed the most poise and confidence. She also took the most risks of the American girls. IMO, she was our best gymnast last night......even better than that Nastia chick.

well Nastia and Shawn Johnson (yes, it was Shawn) will both be competing against each other. They seem pretty even (Nastia had a better score in - I think - the uneven bars).

I know being under 16 is against the rules. I don't see how a 13 or 14 year old is at that great of an advantage. They may have more flexibility, but they may also have less strength. They also may not be as mentally or emotionally strong because of their youth. It doesn't seem like a great advantage. Just more of a way to try and protect the person. For the most part I could not even guess the ages of the female gymnasts from any country. The majority of them look very young to me. If you told me that each team had a 13 year old on it, I would believe it. If you told me each team had a 20 year old on it. I would not believe that at all.

Something's up. The Americans are almost perfect. Seriously the announcers are going nuts and I don't notice any problems and the best they can get is in the high 15s.

The Chinese come in and clearly screw up left and right, sometimes even stepping out of bounds on their landings, and they get in the mid 16s easily.

Rigged. Rigged, I tell you.
So how young are the Chinese women gymnasts. Hell, one of those girls is so short she doesn't have to bend to miss the lower bar in the unparallel bars.

screwjob in beijing.

comparing the balance beam routines just now between Shawn Johnson and the chinese girl. terrible judging. half the chinese girl's moves were balance checks and she score a 9+ in execution?

even the commentators (and Bela) are calling out the judges. this is like Roy Jones Jr 1988 type stuff

The lady in the red jacket came off her perch to tell the judges they better give the US girl the top score in the beam or the fix couldn't be covered up. Lol.

As usual, your lack of knowledge hurts you. If a Chinese paper called her 14 last year, that would not resolve the issue as you only have to be 16 during the year of the competition. If she was 14 last year but turned 15 later in the year, she would turn 16 this year and be eligible.

Do I think she is old enough, no but your argument is flawed.

EXHIBIT D: An official gymnastics roster dated January 27, 2006 published by the Chengdu government for its City Games, a competition in which He competed. As you'll see from the translated version I have provided, He Kexin's date of birth, according to these government documents, is January 1, 1994.

When I saw her I just knew they were going to try and screw her. If they had Bela would have ran down there and kicked their butts. :laugh1:

I definitely thought the Chinese gymnasts got better scores than they deserved and our two girls got lesser scores than they deserved on a couple of apparatus.

In the end it did not matter. That's all that counts.

Nasty deserved the gold and Shawn deserved the Silver. So it worked out as it should and Shawn may still have a shot at the 2012 games, which I believe are in London. A lot fairer judging too.

Hey canadian, I notice you ran and hid once someone powned you on the age thing. As usual.

I didn't run and hide , it's called signing off and not coming back to check if someone responded, or is one supposed to stay permanently online and logged into this site to see if someone responds?

I said I didn't think she was old enough. His response does not mean I was owned because I was attacking your flawed argument that someone who was 14 last year could not be old enough this year. You were the one who was owned, not me.

Now if you had written that according to the newspaper she would only be 14 this year, you would have made a valid point. However, you did not.

Anyway, I believe I have reached the point that reading your fluff is no longer worth it so I will put you on ignore. It will make both our lives far better.

I would agree. They are missing in diving but getting 9.5 etc. I swear they could belly flop and still win Gold.

In gymnastics, the one girl fell at the end of a vault but still only scored .4 lower than another who did the vault pretty flawlessly. I know there is degrees of difficulty etc, but I always thought in gymnastics, you fall, it's over.

Screw Phelps, the best thing in the Olympics so far is to watch Bela watch the Olympics.:laugh1:
