Micah abused our OL

So you didn't watch the Baldinger video.
I watched the game. I don't need PFF or Baldie's videos to tell me what I saw with my own eyes. Maybe you need that, but I don't. Parsons was a non factor for most of the game.

The counter point to all that though is that Parsons easily had 3+ sacks sitting there for him on film had he gone up against nearly any other QB. They also chipped, doubled, or rolled the pocket away from Parsons on more than 50% of snaps.
But he didn't have those three sacks. It is a fallacy to try and argue a "what if" to counter "what is". It loses every time.

And so what if he was chipped, doubled, etc. That's what any team does to neutralize a threat player. Plus, where was the rest of the GB defense if we put so many resources into neutering Parsons?

Okay... so the good QBs and OCs can somewhat neutralize him?
Yes. That is true of every pass rusher. though. It takes 4.3 seconds to get a sack on average. Parsons got to Dak in 2.5 seconds or less 7 times on Sunday Night. If Dak throws the ball quicker than that, what can Micah do? You can change "Micah" to LT or Reggie White or whomever you want to. Same story.

Meh - he had 1 sack and we dropped a 40 burger on em. I think he had like 2 tackles. Reminds me of his Cowboys tenure.

He ain't worth $47 milli.
That one sack basically saved the game for them so there's that.

And again. okay...maybe he's not worth that contract then. And maybe this is why his stats in playoff games are so poor.

That's assuming you're for the team and not for your favorite individual players to rack up gaudy stats.

I am sure there are plenty of reasonable arguments that say that pass rushers aren't worth Micah's contract. I think he is, but I don't hold that believe tightly. I haven't seen any compelling data on it, one way or the other.

Playoff stats are tricky. We're talking about a tiny sample size of 4 games. In those 4 games he has 1 sack, 3 TFL, 3 PD, and 26 total tackles. He was playing off ball more than we has been lately, as you can see in the stats. You are welcome to put a bunch of stock in that sample, but I don't think it's a sound practice.

Exactly. I know I expected at least three sacks out of him - probably even more when we got down by (almost) two TDs early - and four or five wouldn't be a surprise at all.

We knew our tackles (minus Nate) are pretty terrible... Who didn't think he'd take turns abusing Steele and Guyton all night? And we even had undrafted backups at C and G in this game where he loves rushing up the middle. Micah had to be licking his chops.

And then they pretty much kept him off the stat sheet except for that bogus sack, and people want to crow about win rates and PFF grades? Weird. He's the highest paid defender and non-QB in the league... It's really brag-worthy that he beat our patchwork OL off the line?

If he can do that and they still give up 40 - and Gary did nothing either - maybe he's not worth that massive contract. Which was the point all along.
no way was he worth (to us) what he got in GB. Not signing him freed up a ton of money moving forward. Ive said from the day we got him, Pickens was going to be a baller on this team. We have draft capital to help the defense and money to sign players we might not have been able to with Michael on the team.

I was for the trade from day 1. I also said LAST year when we had the ceedee hold out... I said if you think this is bad, wait till next year when its time to deal with Michael, and I was 100% spot on.

Good riddance

This is why I believe the focal point on sacks is a dangerous one, as well as judging individual performances on team results. Really any counting stat that averages less than 1 per game is a dangerous one to make a focal point on in my opinion.

Here are Micahs pass rushes from Sunday You can see the easy quick wins he has at :50, 1:40, 2:19, 3:33. These are often times going to be sacks, but a good reason why sacks are often times a better team stat than individual stats too. If as a secondary you can't give your pass rush more than 2 seconds before the ball comes out I can't blame the pass rushers.

Him being chipped/doubled/etc at such a high rate is just an indication of the attention he receives and exactly what the Cowboys defense really lacks, in addition to the type of player every team is looking for. Thats kind of the point though is that the rest of the GB defense was mostly a no show. I thought Parsons and Cooper had really nice games, but its a team effort. Its really no different than giving a RB a good OL vs a bad OL to run behind.

Not really. He and Clark will cost about the same for 2026 and 2027. In 2028 Parsons is owned $43M, but that will be his only big cap hit season. He'll renegotiate or get cut the following, before making $74M.

So sure, we'll save some money in 2028. But no sooner, thanks to Clark's contract.

Okay... so the good QBs and OCs can somewhat neutralize him? Is that why you make a guy the highest paid non-QB in the league, because he racks up big stats against average to bad QBs and coaches? Which BTW are not what you're going to see in the playoffs.

And of course he's better than our patchwork OL players, save Tyler. It's not like he was going against prime Tyron Smith out there. Our guys are pretty spare. Does he really get that much credit for beating those guys? Isn't that the minimum he should do?

I think you're one of the best posters on here and I usually agree with you, but I don't understand this being upset that Micah isn't getting his due. Micah is a tremendous talent and a great player. There's not much doubt about that with the vast majority of people. But is he worth the contract he got? That's the whole question.
Yes, but good QBs and OCs can neutralize any 1 player in the league for a game. Chris Jones didnt show up on the stat sheet and his team gave up 40 to Philly in the super bowl last year....Doesnt make him a bad player or not worth the money he gets. Myles Garrett didnt make much of an impact last week and his defense gave up 34....doesnt make him a bad player or not worth the money he gets. The Browns are still the top ranked defense in football giving up just 890 yards through 4 weeks.

Its not just that he beat our OL, but he dominated them winning at an extreme rate. My count may not be exact as I'm human going through the film pretty quick but I believe he had 30 pass rushes, 15 1V1 (3 of those screens or rollouts away from him) so basically 12 true 1v1 pass sets and he got quick pressure (2.5 seconds or less) on 4 four of those. Those are extremely high double team rates, extremely high 1v1 win rates, and hes getting there extremely quick. This wasn't just a good week where he beat up on lesser talent this was league leading pressure rates from the week.

And I hope I'm not coming across as angry on the subject, I've actually enjoyed a lot of the back and forth as its mostly remained pretty civil and been good football talk. I'm a little passionate about it simply because what I'm seeing from the film isnt matching a lot of the narrative around the subject. I've mentioned to a couple posters now that I think its simply difference in philosophy....some will evaluate strictly based on black and white results, others will evaluate in the gray area thats independent of the results. No true wrong answer there and both sides of the spectrum will be needed to tell the whole story, but for me personally when I watch and judge a player I'm looking primarily at did they do their job. Give me the QB who throws a strike in a tight window but the WR drops it over the QB who throws it up for grabs and gets the completion due to a great play by the WR.

This is what I'm talking about, though. Who said Micah is a bad player? Pretty much nobody.

Fair enough, I could use lighter verbiage there, but the primary point is the same....what happened to Green Bay on Sunday night isn't abnormal. Even teams with top defensive players are still going to have days of giving up 30+ points, and those star players are often going to not show up on the stat sheets for those games.

I'm still a believe in the old school thought process that defense wins championships, but I also think that an offense on their best day is extremely hard to beat due to current structure of the league that favors scoring points. The Cowboys offensive skill players on Sunday night were playing at that high of a level....and Ill even give the OL their credit in the run game.

huh???? Kenny Clark has a 3-year, $64 million contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys that he signed in July 2024, with an average annual value of $21.33 million. I dont care who you have playing with the books, no way in hell can you look me in the face and say that Clark is costing us the same as Parsons would have.

Read what I actually said.

2026
Clark - 21.5M
Parsons - 19.2M

2027
Clark - 20M
Parsons - 26.8M

I mean Kenny Clark is cheaper, but its really not as different as you think. Over the next three years Clark costs $45M against the cap, Parsons will cost $55ish over that same period. After that Parsons gets pricey, but unless they restructure his deal they should have a fairly easy out before the end of his deal too.

Parsons cap hit is
  • 2025 - $9M
  • 2026 - $19M
  • 2027 - $26M
Clarks cap hit is:

  • 2025 - $2M
  • 2026 - $21M
  • 2027 - $20M

The big difference between the two is that Clarks guaranteed money has all been accounted for already so he becomes cuttable right after this season. The setup of Parsons deal is pretty team friendly for a contract of that size though.

I hear you, but I think his impact has carried over to Green Bay....Despite last nights disaster for that unit their defense still ranks top 10 in both points allowed and yards. The aggregate still looks really good for the GB defense, they just ran into a veteran QB that was locked in and on top of his game last night.

I mean Philly had the best defense in football last year averaging just 278 yards per game, but still gave up 33 to Tampa, and 36 points to Washington. Even really good defenses are going to get gashed on occasion.
This article shows GB problems from last year which shows its not only Dak that can take advantage of them. GB was dead last against drop backs last year in term of success rate. Ranking depend on the stats being used. There's the article that's a good read on GB defenses problems Micah was suppose to help fix, doesn't look like it worked.

Never beat 71
Yeah I noticed that too. I have a feeling that Nate Thomas is our LT next year and Guyton gets slid to right and Steele is sent packing. Dude just never made it back fully from the knee injury. He's another one who probably came back sooner than he should have. The Cowboys are collecting a lot of those these days.

That one sack basically saved the game for them so there's that.
Dallas' defense not even lasting 42 seconds after Dallas took a 37-34 4th quarter lead saved the game for Green Bay.

And Parsons' "sack" would have meant nothing if Dallas' defense held on a 4th and 7 in overtime on the drive after.
