Oh I would love to bet you that Parsons becomes a top 5 backer in the NFL. Just to prove again that your ability to judge talent in football is so bad its laughable.

I haven’t watched a lot of him or claim to know a whole lot about him other than just about any game you watch him play the coaches are sending him down hill every play.

So if there is video of him dropping into coverage and not just dealing with what is in front of him I’d love to see it.

As Cowboys fans you should be well aware of how easy it is for coordinators to expose linebackers who can’t cover well.

You would also notice how teams are switching to a linebacker that plays like a bigger safety.


But hey.. I’m the guy who keeps up with trends and you still view the game like a 90 year old man that thinks a decent QB should be paid like he’s the best QB in football.

That tells me great athlete, so so football player.. Then to move him into a new position in the pros? Remember when the Cowboys tried to make Randy White a linebacker because he was big, fast and athletic? Just because a guy is big fast and athletic does not mean he can play in space. While I would love to have a pass rusher with 4.4 speed on my squad.. a linebacker who has only been playing linebacker for a minute will always be a step late diagnosing plays and will simply get abused in the pros. At least until he can figure things out. You seldom draft people in the top 10 then wait for them to figure things out.

This guy could easily turn out to be the best player in the draft. Could be generational talent.

Passing on Parsons would be worse than passing on Randy Moss.

Parsons has played LB at Penn ST from the start. He played 26 college career games at LB. I'd call that more than a minute.

Parsons played DE in high school. Not at college.

That’s great but the ability to cover is a skill and if he doesn’t have that skill then NFL teams will abuse him like they do Jaylon and he and Jaylon already have the same strengths.

Parsons needs to learn how to cover. It’s not so much that he “can’t” do it.

There just isn’t many linebackers in the NFL I view as worthy of a top 10 pick. You have to be so good all around to validate that selection and you can find a good all around guy outside of round 1.

And here we go. You cant just leave Dak out of it. You need to let it go. Dez Bryant isnt on this team because of DEZ BRYANT. Stop blaming Dak for your favourite player being gone. Should I show you footage of Parsons from Memphis? He destroyed the game single handedly. Hes a MODERN LB. But please. Bring up my liking Dak at QB as why I cant judge talent. Meanwhile you're the same guy who thought Kaaya and Beathard would be better than Mahomes. lol.

Oh okay I thought I had read that he was used primarily as a DE in college. Was it more of a 3-4 OLB role? To me that's a DE but I don't watch a ton of Penn State football. The main thing to me is that when I draft in the top 10 I want a guy to step in and contribute from day one. If Parsons is changing positions from college to pro that scares me a bit. I do have to correct my typo on his career sack totals.. it was 6.5 not 1.5. Still not huge production for folks who were wondering aloud if he could be a DE. in the NFL. I dunno.. I want my top 10 pick to step in and be an impact player.. I have questions as to whether he fits the bill. But I am not opposed to taking him. I just don't know enough and am worried about the whole year off thing..

I understand your concern. I love Parsons. Wouldn’t complain if he was the pick.
But I would be more in favor of Surtain over him at this point.

but I just wanted to point out Parsons skill set and questions on his game in regards to the topic of the thread.

I do think Parsons will be a very good linebacker. He is going to be on the level of a Bobby Wagner or a Darius Leonard, maybe even a Like Keuchly type guy.

That’s how good I honestly think he will be.

Of course any player can bust though. Ya never know.

I watched every game Parsons played at Penn State. I can watch the video and not agree with their conclusions.


Like I said. Parsons is a young developing player at LB. his instincts are good for somebody who only played Lb for two years with room to improve.

Can Parsons cut and change direction without losing containment or does he make the wrong angle approach like Jaylon?

What he's talking about with that awareness and recognition is exactly what Quinn had with Deion Jones, an undersized but smart LB that was the first to the ball.

If Parsons is there and they don't take him, I think Quinn does not like what he sees. The guy has great size and speed but that's useless unless he gets there in time. Don't the Cowboys already have that problem? How many more tackles do we need to see from Smith that are either from the side or back?

When you watched that video, did you see that speed? I didn't, he wasn't moving appreciably faster than any of the other D players.

However, I do like the idea of a LB his size back there with Vander Esch. However, he may possess to speed to play sideline to sideline but does he have the football IQ to do that? Can he learn and does he have the right teacher?

The question is have we seen the best we're gonna get from Smith and Vander Esch? If so, take Parsons. I've heard all of the blame on Nolan but I saw far too many plays where they just flat missed the read and react and they were in the position to make it. That wasn't a coaching error.

I think either Parsons or Surtain is a no complain from me. I do not see Pitts or Sewell being there.

I cant comment on his skill on pass coverage. As far as Jaylon having strengths he doesnt have any. Parsons is the real deal. Always in the backfield. Has instincts, makes plays and is incredible against the run. Doesnt get washed out.

Parsons much faster, tougher and has heart. He is everything that Jaylon is not.
