Would you sign Henry Ruggs?

- Has Ruggs had any experience as a punt returner ?

- i say yes ,..sounds like the man is sorrowful about that night, very apologetic to the victim's family, and he's paid his debts to society with acrrued jail time
and it would not be the first time that a player for the Cowboys has had manslaughter type charges and the club decided to be committed to him (ala Josh Brent)

- And i agree that's low risk - high reward bottom of the roster try out for the 53 roster,.than making it an instant guarantee roster spot/.
Yeah I don't think he was ever full time at it, but he has returned kickoffs and punts in both college and the NFL.

Has he stated a desire to come back and play football? Maybe he can use his experience to help other young players avoid the same mistakes. Maybe a team or the league can offer him a position doing just that.

As a player, no I'd not be interested in investing in basically a 26 year old rookie who will not have been anywhere near football shape for 5 years.

But he doesn't have to return to the field to be around the game, several opportunities for him.

It's too early at his point to make any judgments as to whether or not he's likely to have a career left in him when his time comes to be released. I'm reasonably certain that up-to-date info will be forthcoming when he's released, however. We'll know more when the time comes for his release. Other teams will, too. Anything can happen at this point. There's lots of info yet to be released in due time.

The details of how the young woman died in the accident will make it impossible to present him to a fanbase.

I don't get it. Why would you sign any player with a really bad history? He's like one of the worst. I wouldn't sign him no matter what. Any team that signs him, it's not about 2nd chances. It's about talent, and making your team better. Second chances don't come to players without high talent. Just say what you mean. He did his time, he's talented, and we don't care otherwise.

Yes, I would.......he's paid his debt. Everyone deserves a 2nd chance.

So my friend is a Raiders fan. For me, the issue is HOW this went down. There was no reason for speeding. He was simply trying to impress his gf after being out after a night of drinking. It was just reckless neglect. So I don't think he paid "his debt" because he's still alive but...I understand that he can't live in guilt and regret or he might as well call it quits. For me, he needs to go do something else...seeking money, fame and adoration ain't for everyone. You went to college, got a lucrative deal with more millions possibly coming and you BLEW it. You don't get 3,4,5 chances when some folks don't get any.

As for the Cowboys signing, If Ruggs has a remorseful purpose to turn his life around, in football shape and hasn't lost 2 steps, I would definitely sign this guy if I was in the front office. I don't care about what the media has to say about the Cowboys (media stay raking this franchise through the coals now so what's one more thing added) nor do I care of the lack of production from a Derek Carr lead team either. 4.3 or 4.4 slot guy on a prove it deal is a no brainer to me.

Conduct speaking engagements during offseason for student athletes and share his story to influence others to do the right thing and become an advocate against drunk driving and this could easily become a redemption story except for those low hanging fruit journalist looking for click bait articles. If Ruggs hasn't learned his lesson or can't help his team, cut bait like they do with others.

nope would not sign nor attempt to sign - over drafted wr by the raiders that killed someone in a very preventable situation....cowboys do not need the drama that would come from it.

I never said it was not a horrific thing that happened. I'm simply suggesting people ask how easily could that have been them. I certainly made poor decisions at 21/22 years old and got behind the wheel of a car when I shouldn't have a time or two. I'm pretty confident I'm not alone there either. "Luckily" for me I didn't have $20M in contract money, a Corvette to show off in, and the superior level of invincibility these young athletes often have.

I'm certainly not a better man that Henry Ruggs, just a more fortunate man who never got in a wreck during my poor decisions. For that reason I'll let the legal system judge him. I wont.
He got hammered at Top Golf and slammed into the rear of that woman's car at 156 MPH. The speed limit on that street is 45 MPH!

His blood alcohol a couple hours after the crash was 0.16.

The impact drove her car a couple of hundred feet and she and her dog burned to death. Riggs and the girl with him sat on the sidewalk as a few bystanders rushed to the woman's car, unfortunately they couldn't get her out.

His sentence was 3 to 10 years!

This incident followed on the heels of two other Raiders DUI incidents and the team themselves had made a big push to educate and inform the players about driving while intoxicated.

I think this is what some are missing........as an NFL player, he has a broad platform to reach 100s, maybe 1000s, especially younger kids. IF his experience can change the behavior of just a few, that would save 1 or 2 lives, it's well worth it.
