Micah Parsons may see less hybrid work under Matt Eberflus

....gonna need to smarten up a bit. Get Micah smart mileage out of him, so that he lasts longer in NFL.

I think Micah does better when he comes in as blitzer, he's not accounted for.

When he's down on fingers, RB's, TE's will chip him, making life harder and shorter.
It definitely makes it harder to chip him when he's moved around. And defenses are going to chip/double-team him whenever they can because he's that good and really the proven player we have who can consistently disrupt the offense.

Lawrence Taylor was an outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense. DeMarcus Ware spent a lot of his career as an outside linebacker in a 3-4. In fact, it was after we moved him to DE full time that he started having injuries and his time here was cut short. Parcells drafted him as a 3-4 linebacker.

Carter has "alignment flexibility" that the Giants are expected to utilize, so they won't just be lining him up at end.

There have been some smaller players that line up exclusively at end, but overall, you don't want to wear those guys down taking on run blockers down after down. Offenses like to lean on those smaller guys with players that outweigh them by 50 to 80 pounds and wear them down. That's one of the reasons the 3-4 became a popular defense because you could take those smaller guys and make it where they didn't have to line up across from an OT on every play.
Doesn't matter what they're called you're trying to tell me it doesn't get physical as a linebacker i'm telling you that most linebackers need to be bigger than a defensive end that's a fact they're usually have to be more physical as a linebacker you're missing the point and I'm sorry but I just pointed out tons of defensive ends it doesn't matter what they're called if they're rushing the passer and stopping the run they're still in a physical position they're still getting banged on I don't get where all this is coming from..

it doesn't matter if they're coming from the outside off the ball wherever they're coming from as a linebacker or a defensive end they're getting the same contact they're making the same contact they're the same size!!!!

i'm trying to point that out Abdul Carter the same guy, he got drafted high because of what Parsons has been doing in the NFL....FACT same size same positon picked higher,,

You just don't understand football apparently you're trying to convince me that him being at defensive end of his size is causing him more contact and physicality than if he was a linebacker and it's absolutely false in essence a weak side linebacker or an outside linebacker anybody but a middle linebacker they're still doing the same things if that more physical as a linebacker a lot of the same stuff that overshown has gotten hurt at he's a linebacker pretty much the same size as parsons...

These guys are being utilized very similar to Parsons, so it is a matter where he's lining up he's going to get the same abuse it's the same LTaylor biggest thing he did was rush the passer his body type was the same... I think that's what you're missing here and in fact he did cocaine a lot,

I mean outside of that they have the same job description, even if their title is not the same, do you not get that knock knock...

say it one more time it does not matter if they're considered a weak side or outside linebacker or defensive end they do pretty much all the same things those are facts..

I can't give it through your head that it doesn't matter he's not going to have a longer career playing linebacker off the ball then defensive end if anything a lot of linebackers are tackling running backs as well on more occasions than a defensive end wouldso linebackers actually would be in more physical situations by your perspective.

That's not my perspective we're talking about guys running really fast and tackling people on a regular basis they're all being blocked but the defensive ends on the outside Are in no more physical danger than an outside linebacker that's what outside means and most of them rushed the passer or try to keep the running backs from coming around the corner that's the exact same job description as a weak sideline backer and/OR a defensive end..

you know no matter what you're called you're doing the same things so his weight in is not a concern is what I'm telling you why you don't ask him why don't you ask his coaches , not one of them is says we're concerned about his weight so we need him to be at 260....NOT ONE!!

I'm doing this cause I'm not answering back anymore this is it i'm done for the day and for this whole thread the reason he's a more physical harm and I already said it once I must say it one more time it's there it's too easily are able to double him or chip him on a triple block because we don't have enough other weapons to make them pay for doing so that's what's putting him in physical harm but when they have more effective pass rushers on the other side he will get less doubles and he will be better and we'll have to not worry about his weight i'm not worried about his weight at all but I'm just hoping that put your mind at rest...

And the coaches in here the experts are just so sure themselves that they know better than the coaches coaches that have been doing this their whole lives the player himself who knows where his best spot would be and yet everybody thinks they know what's best for Parsons and every other player on this team I don't even have a word for it other than egomaniacal personalities ,you guys are insane.. The best word is delusional if you think that the players himself and the coaches know what's best then I don't know what else to do cause you need to seek help you don't know more than them you absolutely don't know anything it's an opinion and I fully disagree the fact that you think he be less abused as a linebacker than a defensive end when an outside linebacker is getting almost the same amount of physical contact, I mean how do you think Sean Lee , Jaylon smith, and Overshown and L V E constantly injury prone they're all linebackers

I digress bye bye...

Linebackers are rarely bigger than defensive ends because they tend to try to avoid taking on blockers, generally don't have to worry about getting double teammed, etc. If you believe that weight/size isn't more important at DE, then I can't help you.

I don't think anyone is saying Parsons or Abdul Carter shouldn't play DE. They are top-notch pass rushers, so they should be used that way. The difference between you and I seems to be that I don't believe that either should be used exclusively at DE because offensive coordinators are going to run at them to try to take their legs out from under them.

I love it when other fans resort to the "you just don't understand football" argument. It's such a cheap out in a football discussion. If you believe that weakside linebacker and defensive end have the exact same job description because they both play outside, I'm not sure what to think of your football acumen.

“Micah is a premier pass rusher. We’re going to use him that way, certainly, and he’s one heck of an athlete that can do a lot of different things for us on defense. And when you have a guy like that, you want to be able to utilize his skill set.

As we’re around him more, we’ll see what that skill set is, and really take advantage of that. … He knows that we’ll just make him in the best light that he can be in terms of position, in terms of pass rush, and really utilizing what he does best, and that’s rushing the passer.”

This is a good sign. Figure out what he does best and take advantage of that. Sounds simple but sometimes coaches overthink things.
Ummm. Not for nothing but what he does best isn’t lining up a Defensive end. His best game of his career in college was at LB. Cotton Bowl. Lining him up against tackles constantly is why he’s dead on his feet by year end.

This team needs to switch to a 3-4. If they were serious they’d be building the team around Parsons. Making him strictly a DE is the definition of square peg round hole.

Yeah. Coaches are so smart they played Byron Jones at safety for 4 years then put him at corner and he left after an all pro year.

He’s a 3-4 LB. Always has been. Don’t know why this team insists on making him a DE.

Fans complain he’s worn down by the end of the year. Lining up a 3-4 LB at DE in a 4-3 will do that. Look at the difference in Ware.

I don't see it as an argument. You get very defensive when some of us are just trying to discuss things on a message board. If you don't want to discuss them, then why post them?
I get defensive when someone says something about me that’s not true. I don’t think you understand that.

The 3-4 defense is susceptible to the run. The teams been a failure because they’ve been susceptible to the run.

We haven't brought in any 3-4 defensive coordinators since we drafted Micah, so I don't know if we should be expecting them to not coach their specialty. Eberflus is strictly a 4-3 guy.

You get defensive over far more than that, but again, I'm interested in discussing the team and not feelings, so I'll leave it at that.

Lol.

As opposed to how well they have done so far in the 4-3?

Micah was also the highest graded lb in college against the run btw. Just saying.

Maybe that’s the problem.

They are so fixated on the 4-3 they don’t realize they actually have more players for the 3-4 than the defense they refuse to abandon.

I would say the best way to use Parsons would be to move him around and let him rush from different spots on the field, from both DE and LB.Dallas seemed to have good results when Parsons would rush between the center and guard .I would move Parsons up beside Toia and let him find a crease toward the QB.With Toia taking on two blockers Parsons could either sack the QB or get a tackle for loss. But as we all know he's great rushing from the DE position but you save his body by moving him around.

That is exactly right better results and longer life.

I just don't see Eberflus bringing more than four rushers very often. Our best bet is if he plays Parsons at linebacker some and brings him from various spot while dropping a lineman. The fact that we've had Eze practicing at linebacker some gives me some hope for that. I'd much rather have Micah attacking the line of scrimmage than anyone we have.
Don’t 75% of snaps in the NFL come out of a 4-2-5?

Seems like you’re kind of reinventing the league, and the premise of the article, to fit your idea of a 3-4 defense, which only 3 teams actually run..

If I’m misunderstanding, please clarify, but I imagine we see Micah at DE more often with Eberflus, not less.
