Micah says Cowboys are costing themselves more money

The “handshake deal” likely means that Micah is going to get all he wants eventually, but it’s going to be after Jerry can milk it for headlines, attention and camera time.

If they sign him now, it’s ancient news by the time that Philly game arrives, and Jerry doesn’t want that.

Honestly, what’s the difference if they pay 38m per vs like 42?

Not as if the delta will get invested into putting a winner on the field.

Has Jerry been in front of the media lately talking about it as much as fans say he is.

I have not seen him, or it would be blasted all over here, for a mega thread of 100 pages.

..why doesnt this guy just stay off media stints? Let the operation work in the background.

No one needs to know or give a hoot. I for one dont. Just show up in important games.

Nope. Been nice hasn’t it?

It can’t be spun into a headline grabber just yet.

I don’t think it’s an outrageously unrealistic take to think that if Jerry is going to write a signing bonus check of that magnitude, he wants some attention as well. That’s why he does this.

Maybe it coincides with camp opening, maybe around when the Netflix series about his greatness starts, maybe the season opener but he pulled that act last year.

Either way it’s not happening now. Doesn’t matter if it becomes a distraction to the football team. He will tell you it isn’t, like fans watching players practice. Not a problem. What IS the actual problem then, Jerry?

I guess we can say, it stays in the headlines without Jerry saying a word. And he loves it.
The fans and media are the reasons it stays front page news.

But there can be some fun comments over it. Pro and Con.

If they wait until TJ Watt gets an extension, this is likely to be true. It's like Lamb waiting until after Jefferson's deal. Jefferson gets $35 million APY so Lamb gets $34 million APY. The Joneses seem to wait until someone resets the market. Now, the player's agent has the choice to wait for that as well, but it seems like Micah wants a deal done and this is more about the front office waiting.
No doubt Micah wants to play. That's one thing I like about him. We all do.

I would stipulate part of the new deal that he has to play LB or DE or any position he's asked to play with the agreement he'll be playing DE on passing downs.

Yes, and I think we all know that Parsons is going to eventually sign a record non QB deal with all the player-friendly fixins and Jerry will celebrate that and claim that no one else could have done it.

If he told the full truth and said that no one else could have doubled the 80m up front cash bonus by hanging on to it for an extra year….I’d fully believe that part.

No other pro sports franchise operates in this conflict of interest manner. Jerry calls it an “advantage.” Yeah, to him.

This kid is playing chess not checkers. He may be the most savvy player the Jones boys (the Cavemen) have had to negotiate with. Maybe since Deion.

Is GM Jethro dumb enough to believe our 2nd round draft pick gives him some kind of leverage with Micah?

Like he must have thought the Trance trade did, with Dak.

We are still bringing in and working out more DE's for what seems to be a deep DE group.

Is GM Jethro dumb enough to drag this out into the season with Micah?

Only thing is people say we should have paid sooner like what is 2 million extra dollars doing to hurt us from 40 to 42 million

It’s really not going to matter.

It’s not as if it’s a situation where they would have signed more or better players with the difference. They don’t operate that way. Means nothing, but they certainly know they can make money with that money by hanging on to it longer, which is a disadvantage/conflict of interest that no other pro sports franchise has to deal with.

The GM is given a budget and parameters and they are either qualified and perform or they are gone.

It’s insulting when Jerry tries to call it an advantage. Far from it. Then flat out says that he “bought an occupation.” It’s beyond a slap in the face to fans.

Anyone notice that the Osa deal got done clean and nice and early?

It's because an Osa Odighizuwa contract saga wouldn't generate daily national interest. The Jones Boys don't care if they overpay Micah. They love the attention this gets, same reason Dak and CeeDee's contact sagas lasted until right before the season started.

There is no way (in my opinion) that Micah puts pen to paper on this deal anytime over the next three months. He'll probably end up signing on the plane ride to Philly for week one.

I'm going to guess....$4 million?
Then if we add the extra $5M (minimum) we gave Dak...hmmm...I'll go with $9M? Now add $2M more because we could have gotten Micah for $36M if we signed him in February, so let's call it $11M. That's a pretty good starting player we lost in a cap world just due to our front office's total incompetence. So THAT is the difference...
