The player who stayed and shot himself in the foot that I think of is Ken Swilling. He was a no doubt top 10 pick as a Junior Safety out of Georgia Tech. He was compared to Ronnie Lott. He stayed, got hurt, and was never the same. He ended up being drafted in the 7th round in 1992. He never even played.

That story was a real good read

Seems to me his issues were more mental than physical, kinda sad really.

Bryant is no where near the pro prospect Crabtree is because of the difference in athleticism but Bryant is in fact a very good player. Crabtree just happens to be bigger and faster. Crabtree was a first round pick running a 4.5 40 but he lowered that over the off-season and is in the mid 4.4's now on a slightly slower than Combine track.

Bryant is probably a late first right now which is nothing to sneeze at but Crabtree is a top 5 pick according to most scouts.

Again this guy had 1922 yards receiving last year with 22 touchdowns.
He is once again an All-American but has been banged up all year and almost never plays more than 60% of the offensive snaps in a game. So his number looks comparable to other top guys but in reality it is a very down year for him which is why he is talking about coming back.

Haha now this is where you are off. Leach yes Leach even said that Dez Bryant was bigger and faster than Crabtree. Scouts project him as well as a top 10 pick. I dont know where you get saying that scouts have him a late first round pick because that is just making up stuff there. You look at stats Dez Bryant out does him this year. Crabtree is just considered the golden child because of what he did last year. Now dont get me wrong Crabtree is one hell of a player but Dez is right up there with him.

Announced today he is returning to Texas Tech next year for his Junior year.

Just so you know, the Cowboys are very high on this kid. It would not shock me at all to see them try and get him in 2010 and I mean pay a lot.

I agree,

Signed Mike Ditka

I'd be willing to put a wager with you that Crabtree is bigger than Bryant

Here is the deal none of those articles are even ligit one of them did not even come from this year!!! On top of that that None of them really mention Dez Bryant. I dont expect you to believe me however I did read those articles and thats all that needs to be proven to me. Which is why I said that your statement was not relivant especially a guy with Texas Tech goggles. However, whats the point you have Texas Tech logo (assuming you are a Tech fan) so you are always going to be for Crabtree and for my self I am an Oklahoma State fan so I cant say much my self.

When is Aug, Nov and Dec 2008 not this year?

Legit? Why not? Because they didn't mention the greatness that is Dez Bryant?

The thread is about MICHAEL CRABTREE......

He looks like a great one for sure, but there is another one coming behind him.

Julio Jones, from Alabama, is for real.

By the way, I like Alabama to beat Florida.

GOOD CALL...how did that one work out :D

I got in on this late, but I would be surprised if Crabtree returned. I know what he told Don Williams at the Lubbock paper, but things change when the deadline approaches.

Its not Legit because it only mentions about his freshman year just saying he was a good reciever. There is also nothing of some scout saying anything about him. No one was saying that he is a bad reciever. The thing was I wanted a comparison between the two. Not how good Crabtree was last season.

So what? They aren't anywhere near similar.
They both had quasi-cool names.:)

But the better comparison may be:
Peter Warrick= Charles Rodgers
Michael Crabtree= Larry Fitzgerald?

Dallas doesn't have a chance of drafting him though, he's a top 5 talent.
You never know friend, I have a 2000 draft magazine that projected Quincy Carter going number one overall in 2001.

Three years from now JJ wiLl trade a 1, 3, 5 and give him $9M a year franchise money.

I agree with this.

I would love to see him back though. He is fun to watch in that Offense.

Whats asinine is putting one player's one great year above another players two great years. Thats whats asinine. And last time I checked I never said Dez Bryant wasn't in the Big 12 where did that come from?
I didn't put (or see anyone else) put one great year above another player's two great years. And I was making fun of you're "not in the same league comment."

Crabtree is more of a complete player, and thats what sets him apart in my eyes.

There are no plays off for him, he has incredibly soft hands, and he loves to block. These are all reasons I feel he is better than Bryant.
More complete in what way? Bryant and Crabtree both are big, strong, physical receivers with great speed, who are able to block well. FYI Bryant was also first team Big 12 ST player.

Dez likes to block: http://newsok.com/osus-new-top-wr-dez-bryant-is-stepping-into-the-spotlight/article/3285913

And also, you mentioned that Crabtree had an off game against Oklahoma. If 62 yards can be considered that really.

Are you really trying to compare Oklahoma's defense to Texas Tech? Tech's defense is pee wee level, don't give me that.

I guess if 62 yards isn't an off game, then I'm not sure how 86 yards (Bryant vs TTU) is being quiet as a mouse.

But I wasn't comparing OU's defense to TT's defense, I was comparing performances in tough road games. If you really want to compare number's against OU:

Crabtree--6 for 62, 0 TDs
Bryant--6 for 91, 2 TDs

Perfectly fine that you like Crabtree because he has done it over a longer period, or if it just your personal preference. But don't try to pull this not even close, Bryant isn't a complete player horse hockey.

If I could pick any receiver in this year's draft, Crabtree without a doubt. Next year, I would pick Bryant without a doubt (assuming he continues to impress with another year of maturity and learning).

Now the real question: are there any deals that Dallas could make to possibly draft Crabtree this year?

I agree 100% on everything you wrote. What got me as well is when someone was saying that Dez is not even close. Sure he can have different opinion but to say something like that shows that he only knows very little.

Ummmm ok.

It is funny how the different uniforms and color schemes can make one player appear bigger than another. Bryant wearing OSU's orange and white looks bigger to me than Crabtree wearing the black or red and white of Tech. I don't see either as a small receiver. Even if they measure a little shorter than 6'-2" or so, they both are muscular guys and both are strong. Jeremy Maclin at Missour is a small receiver and Bryant and Crabtree are obviously bigger than him.

I think Crabtree is the better receiver, but Bryant is no slouch and will help whatever team he ends up with in the NFL.

That is crazy Crabtree looks as if he's about 5'10 while Bryant looks like he's a solid 6'5
