'Bout time one of the original Mavs Big Three got one (the one who carried them all those years). It's a little sad watching him win one on another team, but at least he's got one now.

I thought the original Mavs Big Three were Jason Kidd, Jamal Mashburn and Jim Jackson.

You have a point, but that lasted all of like two months before they blew it up. I guess I should have just said "the Big Three".

We can go back a little further and say the big 3 were Harper, Blackman and Mark Aguirre. Aguirre was the first big star for the Mavs. Maybe even consider a Dale Ellis or Sam Perkins prior to Tarpley arriving in 1986.

I'm happy for Finley as well, but I wouldn't be distraught if he opted out this year and we replaced him with someone who's a little more dynamic offensively.

Fin was a great player, but he's a little long in the tooth now. I kept expecting him to have one more great game in the finals, but he just didn't have much left in the tank. Right now, his game and Brent Barry's game are pretty similar. I'd like to jettison one of them and bring in someone a bit more athletic.

If Finley does opt out of his contract, and by some chance ended up with the Mavs (purely a hypothetical question and a very unlikely scenario), would Dallas be paying him double? Or is that a moot point and there's no way they can re-sign him while he's still under his original contract?

I would be pretty sure they would have to pay him again. One problem, though is that I believe the Spurs have already accused Cuban of tampering by saying he'd love Finley back. If he opted out and they did sign him, I'd bet there might be some repercussions.

I'm wondering how a guy like Matt Barnes would possibly fit in with the Spurs? Young, athletic, brings some attitude and personality, and can hit the three. Just don't know if he brings TOO MUCH attitude.

That is an interesting question. I would like to see an answer to that. It is bound to have happened before in the NBA.

I dunno... the Allan Houston rule is a pretty recent development... and that's how Fin was cut.

There may be some salary cap implications, since they were able to wipe his salary off the books. Seems like there's the potential for some cap-circumventing shenanigans there.

The Allan Houston rule is the funniest thing to me. The Knicks did not even apply the rule to Houston instead choosing to cut Jerome Williams.
