Huff won back his starting job and played well this year.
The whole mentality of "if he's so good why did his previous team let him go" doesn't really fly.

Johnny Unitas was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Kurt Warner was released by the Green Bay Packers. Then, after a ton of success with the Rams, he was later let go by the NY Giants before more success in Arizona.

James Harrison was released by the Baltimore Ravens.

Leonard Davis was widely considered a bust and was allowed to walk away from the Cardinals without a contract offer. He's worked out well for us.

There's no guarantee that Huff will repeat that success but there's no guarantee that his lack of success on his first team means he won't work out for his next team.

Only one on your list that was a high 1st round pick like Huff is Davis. Not a good comparison.

Jim Plunkett, Vinny Testaverde..I can't think of anymore off the top of my head (I bet Hos can).

Players can turn it around, it happens all the time.

I don't know much about him except that he went to UT. He's not a top safety though and he's lost his starting job to Hiram Eugene more than once. Is this guy really an upgrade from Hamlin.

Of course - Hamlin sucks, remember? He doesn't get Madden 2010 style numbers in interceptions and pick-sixes.

Huff played really good last year.

He's an upgrade over Hamlin easily.

I would sign him to a 2 year contract if it doesn't cost very much. 1 Million to 1.5 million a year and nothing guaranteed. I wouldn't change my approach to the draft based on the signing.

So Taylor Mays is a bum but Huff is not? If Huff did not go to UT how many people here would really want him?

not a big fan of Huff myself, loved him coming out of Texas but I just dont think he'd be a significant upgrade over Hamlin.

I simply cannot understand how anyone can convince themselves that Huff is better than Hamlin. The former is still trying to learn to play FS and prove he deserves a starting job, while the latter is a clear-cut starting calliber FS who directs his defense.

If Dallas was realy interested in a young, veteran FS that still has chance for growth, why would they look past Allan Ball? What Dallas really needs to do is draft a S and open the competition between Hamlin, Ball and the rookie.

Since it's obvious a lot of you didn't see more than one Oakland game last year (and I don't blame you), let me present you some facts.

He passed the eyeball test when I watched him in the handful of Raider games I saw (made a game clinching play vs. KC from memory) and here are some stats to back it up.

According to ProFootballFocus:

-Huff ranked 1st among NFL safeties in passes defensed with 11.

-QB's targeted him 35 times and only completed 16 of those passes.

-He gave up 0 touchdowns, and the cumulative QB rating for passes thrown against him was 34.2

-Using their coverage rating system, he ranked 10th among safeties, right below Darren Sharper, and right above Jairus Byrd.

-He had zero penalties called against him.

That's a pretty impressive body of work. I'd say the light has turned on for him. He's just turning 27 in a couple of days, and we could get a ton of value for a guy who hasn't completely broken out yet. Another year like last year and he's gonna command top dollar.

I hope our front office does their homework and gets him at a bargain price assuming he gets cut.

I would much rather have Huff than Rolle. I think a lot of his problems have something to do with the team he plays for and won't command a mega deal.

What problems?

Dude is a stud. He excels in coverage. Everyone wants a ballhawk, well he's that guy.

Although as stupid as Al Davis is, I doubt they cut him.

I'd offer a middle round pick and see if they bite.

Well he had 3 ints this year, but prior to 09' he had 1 career pick in his 3 seasons. Not to mention in 08' and 09' he played in all 32 games and only started in 19, mainly because of his tackling (going by what I've heard).

So he's far from a ball hawk, however, I blame some of his issues on Oakland and I'd be willing to trade a 4th, possibly a 3rd for him
