He's due 9 million this year. There's a strong chance he is let go.

26 year old FS that's still improving. He had 5 picks this year and seemed to play alot better.

I can't imagine if once he's released that he would be making a monster deal. He's still got a ton to prove.

I know ChrisfromSocal is with me on this one!:D

At a reasonable price I think he would be an upgrade over Hamlin.

That dude went to my high school here in Irving (Nimitz). I didn't know him, but some of my younger friends did. I know that kid is super fast, and actually went to UT on a track scholarship.

I don't know much about him except that he went to UT. He's not a top safety though and he's lost his starting job to Hiram Eugene more than once. Is this guy really an upgrade from Hamlin.

i would love him for the right price, he hasn't done anything to earn a huge payday but i still have hope that he can become the player he was supposed to be.

he should be able to be brought in for less than what we pay hamlin, if he beats out hamlin great, if not not a big deal.

Huff would definitely give us an improvement in coverage and play making. The consequence would be giving up some ability in run support and losing Hamlin's pre-snap intelligence. Having never really payed attention to Huff, I have no idea if he could take over Hamlin's coach-on-the-field role.

Wade Phillips and Jerry Jones are always quick to bring up Ken Hamlin's value as the "coach of the secondary."

And I'm not going to discount it, but why is he so good at communicating to others what's going on while almost never being around the ball himself?

Helping prevent big passing plays has obvious merit, however 1 interception over the last two seasons is simply atrocious.

That's a really good question.

My answer would be that Hamlin probably realizes his athletic limitations and takes fewer risks. Honestly, that's probably what keeps him from dropping from an average safety to a below average one. Hamlin knows that if he plays the risk/reward game, then he's going to get beat a lot, so instead he plays it safe. He knows where he needs to be, given his ability.

It's really difficult to quantify how much of an impact Hamlin's pre-snap intelligence has on the defense. However, like Theogt pointed out a few days ago, the pass defense was significantly better after Hamlin came back, even though we were playing better passing teams.

Jones said one of the positions they were looking to upgrade was safety, then talked about how they saw Sensabaugh as a key player for the secondary. Not that hard to see who he was thinking of "upgrading"

At the right price? Sure. Never know if a change in scenery would help him reach the potential many thought he had when drafted high in the first round.

If I was Jerry I would call the agents for Rolle and Huff the first moment of free agency (assuming Huff is let go). If Rolle wants superstar money, I'd focus on Huff.

Rampage wouldn't be happy if the Cowboys signed him, his best friend, and his brother. Rampage is like some politicians, he want changes but offers no real options on how to actually make those changes. He just boos other people's suggestions. :D

Sensabaugh didn't impress me and I was rooting for him. The Minnesota game really exposed him. He made Vicente Shiancoe look like Jerry Rice on those crossing patterns...and don't even get me started on that big TD before the half. I realize Newman released his man way too early but Sensabaugh probably still doesn't know that guy caught the ball.

I want an upgrade at BOTH safety positions.

Just a few counterpoints:

Isn't this guy widely considered a bust?

Doesn't he play on a pretty bad defense?

Didn't Ken Hamlin also have 5 INTs in one year?

For people slobbering over drafts picks.

They have the same potential to be busts and disasters as someone being brought in like Huff.

Huff was just as heralded coming out of Texas as Thomas is now.

Huff won back his starting job and played well this year.
The whole mentality of "if he's so good why did his previous team let him go" doesn't really fly.

Johnny Unitas was released by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Kurt Warner was released by the Green Bay Packers. Then, after a ton of success with the Rams, he was later let go by the NY Giants before more success in Arizona.

James Harrison was released by the Baltimore Ravens.

Leonard Davis was widely considered a bust and was allowed to walk away from the Cardinals without a contract offer. He's worked out well for us.

There's no guarantee that Huff will repeat that success but there's no guarantee that his lack of success on his first team means he won't work out for his next team.
