Michael Irvin as a head coach (not necessarily in Dallas)?

Anyone else think he would make a good head coach somewhere? Either on the college level or the NFL level.

He can relate to the players. He know the Xs and Os of football. He can play the psych game. "Go out and get your 'man' back." He brings passion to the game and WILL motivate. And he knows talent. He knows where to attack a team and how.

I think he would make a really good head coach on the collegiate level. Can you imagine him recruiting? I think he would be an awesome recruiter. When Irvin talks, people listen. Kids would want to play for him. And his press conferences would be awesome.

On the pro level? I don't know. I do think Irvin would be better than Singletary. And Fox. Do you think Irvin would have Jake Delhomme out there?

I don't believe the head coach in today's game does a whole lot other than motivate, manage coordinators with a general strategy, and evaluate talent. And Irvin would be good at those three things.

Disclaimer: I am a big Irvin fan. One of my favorite Cowboy players of all-time.

Umm, okay. I guess that settles that.
I never claimed my opinion settles anything. I don't think he would be because he does not know X's and O's. He could motivate but can he actually coach? He has not shown that.

Edit:

He isn't mature enough to give up that much of his life. There is no way he could give up night life and social networking and devote 16+ hours a day to finding out how to win. No way.

From the mouth of The Playmaker: "I don't want any part of that headache."

My boss and I begged him to get on the sidelines on two seperate occasions, and that was his response both times.

Good point. If there was one big name starter from that team who I felt would be a very good HC that was Woodson but as you said men who become coaches have to be willing to put in those long hours and they don't get much time off when the season ends.

I always liked the idea of Darren Woodson coaching in some capacity here, I know he said he would NOT like to coach (anywhere in general) about 8 years ago or so....Not sure about Irvin to stay on topic.

I would not want to play for Irvin--too selfish and laughs at his own humor too much. And he's probably be one of those explayers who can't understand why everyone can't work as hard and play as well as he did (like Teddy Baseball, the Rangers first manager).

Exactly.

This brings back memories of the summer and Fourth and Long... "Michael Irvin is a better coach than anyone on our staff!"

Gotta love this board... Yes. I believe he would make a pretty decent coach for a team on the NFL level. Will he ever get that chance? Probably not. Who knows? Jerry might throw him a bone and make him the WRs coach.

Head coach? Not sure, but as a talent evaluator (part of the job) he SUCKS. But if properly motivated, he could make a great WR coach.

I would like for him to be a assistant wide receiver coach for Dallas Cowboys.

Where is coach Irvin? :jackpot:

Mike was a great WR and I'm sure if he was willing to put in the hours he would be a fine WR coach but he still likes the nightlife, nothing wrong with that but coaches do not get much of a night life during the season.

Head coaches don't have to be great X's and O's guys, if they are good motivators and good game and team managers they can be good coaches as long as they surround themselves with good X's and O's guys.

What's wrong with making it rain? It's his money. :)

Dallas should hire Danny White as a QB coach. A few weeks ago Aikman talked about how he was one of the few guys that could relate to the pressure that Romo faces as the Dallas QB. I think White has an even better understanding of that pressure because he did not have the success of either Staubach or Aikman. Plus White has coaching experience in the Arena league. It is not the same as coaching in the NFL, but it stresses QBs making quick decisions. Add in that White got the opportunity to work with Tom Landry and I think he would be a good assistant coach in the NFL. I have wondered why no team has given him a shot to do something and work his way up or if they have why he hasn't taken that opportunity.
