Michael Irvin: I will work with Johnny Manziel; Cowboys should help save him

I thought the Cowboys were a football team, and not a psychology department. Jesus.

"You know how many psychologists it takes to change a lightbulb?

Well, it only takes one, but it takes a very long time, and the bulb has to really want to change."

Seriously, there are some diagnoses that can be treated, like bipolar disorder, social anxiety or panic disorder, chronic dysthymia or depression, even PTSD. But JFB's arrogance and disregard for rules and/or authority is indicative of antisocial and narcissistic tendencies, which are difficult to change.
He may be in his 40's before he evolves into responsibility and commitment.

So, taking him on would likely represent a waste of time and energy and create a huge negative distraction.

Yeah that is the issue too.
1.RG .....has sat out a year after playing badly, and the year before mostly out with injury.
Has one really bad knee/ leg, and similar to Romo 1 bad hit on that knee, he could be done fore the year.
RG hAd 1 good year , back when he ran the ball good and a lot.
After coming back from that injury, he was Just mediocre.
HIs passing was never that great, and under JG he would flop.

2. JF......Is undersized for a QB, and not a great runner, but can scramble and run.
So far the best JF has done is mediocre. he has hit some long TD passes, and ran for a TD or 2.
Under JG he would flop.

I think both QB's need a team and HC and OC that would devise a offense specifically for them and what they do best.
If that happens either one might be pretty good, but they are not going to fit into most NFL Offenses.

So bottom line is with JG and Linny, RG and JF would be not better or different than Cassel and weeden, and Moore.

If Mike Shanahan (who I respect) couldnt fix RG3 do you really think anybody here can? As far as JFB do you really see him as a film room junkie, a play book junkie, or attaching himself to Romo 4 or 5 hours a day? I dont.

Maybe...for the chance to play in Texas. It seems as though he may have lost his mind but life is crazy after all....or is it.

Manziel > than Hardy in 2016 for Dallas? He would have been in 2015.

Michael Irvin: The most unqualified American to offer advice on saving anybody. Irvin is a carnival barker, a mental midget and, on his very best day, an almost average football analyst.
th

Having said that, he was a heck of a WR, an icon of Cowboys lore.

AND WHEN DID THE COWBOYS BECOME A REHAB UNIT??????????????????????

Good day, blokes! I'm off to shoot darts at the Cat & the Fiddle and then have pot roast and ale at Ben's Pub and Bookstore.
Cheers!

He is a much better clapper than Garrett. And is batting 1.000 as a figure head HC. And not only can he assemble a better all star team, he actually WINS the games, while Garrett wins the practices. Irvin has reached out and helped more players than Garrett has as well.

Jerry might think he has the support system set up to straighten this guy out, but I really doubt it in this case.

It would take 24 hour surveillance to keep track of his movements and disguises. He may have to bring back his "money sign" celebration when he heads to the unemployment line.

If Mike wants to make it a personal project to fix Johnny then god bless him, he should follow his heart. But the Cowboys organization should keep away.

It really is a shame about Manziel. He has such a high potential ceiling... only problem is his floor is in the sub-basement.

I appreciate the empathy Mike has for a young player wtih substance abuse issues but think he is underestimating the entitlement aspect to Manziel as a result of his coddled and wealthy upbringing. Two different drives to their shared problems with addiction. And as from a strictly fan's standpoint: stay sway from the headache and draft a QB @ 4; even trade up if need be and sign a McCoy type of backup instead.

In a year it's gonna look silly that manziel ever played in the nfl he already is balding and short soon he'll have a dad body

I'd be more interested in rolling the dice if I thought either of em could play. I dont.

Manziel's upside if he gets right is an Alex Smith level QB.

Griffin has no upisde. He proved in Washington when he wouldn't let coachs show his bad plays during film review. Players like that cant succeed. And if he pulled that with Shannahan, what do you think he would do with Garrett

Former Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin joined Rich Eisen to chat about Johnny Manziel.

Manziel is expected to be released by the Cleveland Browns in March, and Irvin would love to see the former Texas A&M Aggies star in a Cowboys uniform.

"I love the game of football and the game of football saves lives," Irvin said. "If you can get a young guy, Johnny Manziel won aHeisman Trophy at 18-19 years old. He is still growing up. I don't know why we think if a guy can throw a football it makes him the most mature person in the world. There will come a time when he will cross over that threshold and become a great football playerm and I am willing to workwith him on that and I hope the Cowboys do get him.

"I know this kid has worked hard to get where he is. Let's give the kid another shot, he lands in a better spot and get around the right kind of people. Help him become a better football player and a better man. That's what the game of football does."

The problem is that we're the Cowboys and it will become a bigger circus here than anywhere.

If he goes to the Rams or the Chiefs than it's no big deal.

If he goes to Dallas than I won't be able to turn on my radio, TV, or look at Cowboyszone without constantly hearing about him.

Seems like everyone wants to help Manziel while Tim Tebow was offering him grief counseling at an undisclosed location they reportedly joined hands, took a knee, bowed their heads and began tebowing.

I would take Tebow before I would take Manziel.

I am humbled by your gracious reply. Maybe I am wrong about the lad from Miami . . . perhaps I have been too hard on the dumpster-seeking good Samaritan called Michael Irvin. Who among us has not been caught with hostesses in a motel room, trying to kick unmentionables under the bed . . . or having to turn over a pipe with residue to a police officer (he was helping a friend stay clean) . . . Well, I am contrite and now bask in the glow of forgiveness and humility to which you have steered me.

Respect, mon.

It's a smokescreen....to make people think we are not drafting a QB

I can't see how we don't draft a QB regardless if we sign Manziel, RG3 or any other veteran QB. No veteran we bring in is going to be the long-term answer and we can't only just think about the backup position we have to start looking down the road to replacing Romo. Manziel certainly isn't going to add any stability to whoever signs him if anyone does with all his issues. The Cowboys problems are going to get a lot worse if they don't draft a "solid" QB prospect very soon.

It's a smokescreen for when Sir Jones signs Manziel and everybody is breathing a sign of relief that it could have been worse with RGIII's signing.
