On Jerry Jones/Murray: “He’s trying to sign him, trying to find a way but trying to find a way at the best price he can.”
“No matter where the price goes, if Jerry Jones wants to sign him, he can sign him.”
“You have a man that just led the league in rushing. What message does it send to the rest of your team to leave him out?”
“I would say to Jerry I don’t care if you overpay a little right here. It sends not a bad message but a good message.”
“When you perform like this, you will get taken care of. That message he needs to send through the locker room. Period.”

this is why Irvin belongs more on a broadcast set than on the sideline as some sort of position coach

I don't see him telling his "son" to take a little discount to help the boys out. Love Mike as a player, but he's using his heart and not his mind on this topic.

You read my mind. Mike should be on the horn telling Dez to take less money so that they can keep DeMarco.

Last I checked, there was a salary cap.

What message would it send to your team if you overpay for him ?

Would be totally contradictory to our strategy. We would not be authentic for the rest of the team anymore.

Players have to believe in what the coaches and the FO tells them. They will lose trust if you dont show trust in your own philosophy.

Michael Irvin was a good player who was playing with a great heart. It may sound harsh but it wasnt his intellect that made him great. Thank god he is not running this team.

really? He played on a team with the all time leading rusher and got 3 rings. I think Mike knows the importance of a strong running game, better than most

Just because he played doesn't make him the end all be all about managing a cap and talent...this is the same guy that was suspended from the league for drugs and off field issues, did that help his team??

His comment had zero to do with a running football team and everything to do with the running of a football team.

The message is great play will be rewarded is the point Mike is making and as I mentioned he knows what a running game will do for this team it is why we went 12-4 instead of 8-8 when we passed like crazy with poor results. Dallas was not beating many teams over 500 until last season and Murray and the running game had a lot to do with that. You don't go in to Seattle throwing it 40 to 45 time and win.

Interesting core point though. Bill Polian said the same thing regarding locker rooms on Sirius a few days ago (not about Murray). He always would lean toward overpaying internal guys first because of the message it send to the team. Thought that if the FO acted like it was all about the money, then so would the players. Not to say he never had to make hard decisions, but why he never was the biggest player in FA as a GM. Interesting interview

I love Mike, but "you have a man that led the league in rushing" has a little to do with the 5 hosses up front too. Last I checked, they were all returning.

No he is not the end all he is a man with a view and the view is based on his past experience as a member of the team. But again it is just his view.

I don't think Mike discredits what the OL did no more than he discredited the OL he played with but it is not just the OL and it is not a matter of just sticking any RB in there and getting the results. I have yet to hear one person with NFL experience claim that it was all the OL and Murray played a little part in it. No they are smarter than that.

It had to do with the leading rusher in the NFL and it had to do with rewarding excellent play. Murray is a RB it has everything to do with rushing and doing it at a rate that was above all others last season.

I would have liked to see Murray stay, but I would ask Mike how much is too much, I guess we can all decide if it was too much once we see what he signs for in Philly.

Murray just had one of the best season ever by a RB so I understand the value, but what type of a season would a very good back have had behind that line.

I think we are about to find out, then we can decide was the difference between the performance and the pay was enough in what it allows the team to accomplish.
