Michael Irvin predicts the team's win-loss record

Is this not the definition of a fan? Cheering on YOUR team no matter what.

Waiting for a Championship to cheer is a fair weather fan.
...they suck, I will wait until they win to cheer ... yeah, that is a fair weather band wagon fan.
Critiquing my fandom as fair weather somehow makes you a better fan? Turning on each other doesn't serve any of us well. I'm jaded but I'm still diehard. I don't miss a game, and I always cheer for my Cowboys but unlike the bias expressed by the Playmaker Irvin, I know when our goose is about to be cooked. I don't see a playoff team in the Cowboys current version. If you do, then good for you. We'll see what we see.

And that's your opinion you're not Nostradamus we're allowed to say whatever our predictions might be 12 wins is not a stretch we just got through winning 12 wins three straight years we just got through seeing what it was like in 2020 with a mirror like performance in 2024 missing a bunch of players lots of injuries and losing your quarterback for the year so it's not a stretch to think we can't bounce back...

Your predictions and all the naysayers predictions aren't anymore accurate than those saying we can win 12 wins they're all guesses you guys are all guessing you are not Nostradamus you do not tell the future you don't tell other fans that they're not allowed to predict 12 wins...

It can happen and stop making teams on paper look better than they are you're trying to tell me that you know what the Chiefs are going to look like when we meet them have you watched their games the last three years they've been declining in in the score differentials they've been fighting to win games they've been losing close games patrick Mahomes has not even been anywhere near himself the last two seasons he's played worse than Dak but nobody wants to talk about it..

Yes they have a very good team solid coaching staff it's going to be a tough game but they are not unbeatable this is not the dominant team from four years ago they've been declining for the last three years but the last two years just looking really normal to me and last year in the Super Bowl the Eagles made them look like trash..

So let's stop acting like we're meeting a bunch of unbeatable teams no team is going to look the same as last year we don't know but they're bringing to the game we don't know if they're going to be injured missing key players you know the advantage they got to meet the Cowboys practice squad all year last year you know those teams that can brag about beating us but beating our backups.

There are too many variables to say we can't win 12 games i'm not saying we're going to win 12 games but stop acting like you know the products that are coming to play us you do not know anything about those teams this year or how they're going to be when they actually meet us teams are going to go through injuries they're going to have struggles they're going to go through droughts they're going to be a team we play that you think we're going to easily lose to that are going to make mistakes and fumble our teams going to make plays yes that's how it works that's why we watch the games it's a reality TV show you do not know the ending you do not know what's happening you're only guessing like the rest of us.....
Do you think the people who set the O/U line at 7.5 know anything about the NFL? Or are they just idiots? Strangely, the line hasn't moved since before the draft/ FA or Pickens trade.

I was making a general statement.

That's cool but you stated 'educated guess'. You did not say 'guess'. There is a difference. The definition:

A guess that is based on a certain amount of knowledge and is therefore likely to be correct (link)
Below is the minimum of what anyone needs for making an educated guess concerning which player will be picked by the team in the first round of the following draft:
  1. the team's slot (based upon where the team ultimately finishes the season)
  2. any indication for how the front office will arrange their draft board
  3. any indication for how other front offices will arrange their draft board
  4. how the hoped for player performs during their upcoming collegiate season
...and that is a short list.

For what it is worth, I personally do not find guessing hilarious. Everyone makes guesses. What I find hilarious are comments stating a guess as a fact--especially those based on practically nothing at all.

In my opinion, I would not define pure guesses as educated. However, I have zero problem in anyone making guesses or educated guesses. It will not stop me from finding and posting about finding pure guesses as funny--JUST LIKE no one will stop anyone else from having and posting about guesses.
Dude, get over it. Stop splitting hairs. Try to be peaceful.

Actually in a recent interview with Troy Aikman he says the Cowboys are going to surprise some people that everyone's going to see them as last year's team and that he's predicting we have a very good season he's not saying it's our year he said that specifically that's not what he's saying but he's saying that that we're going to be a lot better team than people are trying to claim... You know Troy he don't say things like Mike so he's thinking it too but hey none of us are allowed to be positive,,,
I hope he's right. But it's just another opinion. I'm cautiously optimistic.

lol @ 'splitting hairs'. You are putting the cart before the horse concerning 'get over it' and 'be peaceful'. You responded to my initial post. It was not the other way around.

Everyone can post anything they want as long as it follows site rules and site management. The same goes for responding to what fellow members post. It would be logical to tell me to 'get over it' and/or 'be peaceful' if I had responded to your initial post.

Keep in mind they are putting up a number they think will get even bets. But you're right, it's there for a reason. Nearly half the super bowls played had a team that didn't make the playoffs the year prior. What do you think their O/U was to start the season?

Things have to break right for the Cowboys. Blue has to be an impact player. Otherwise I don't think our run game takes off.

Moving along

Better team, same amount of wins as last year.

The Prescott era Cowboys rarely beat good teams, and there are just too many of them on this years schedule.

Giants and Washington are no longer a guaranteed four wins either.

Maybe the second 7-10 in a row will cause them to consider using a player acquisition method that all other teams use…and they’ll have a fighting shot in 2026.
A far more reasonable take that I agree with.

Thats a pretty valid post here.

Lines are set to attract bets both ways.
They only change if betting gets lopsided.
They are not trying to predict accurate outcomes, just control the betting and they will always
make $.

I would need 14-17 points to bet on dallas. Other dallas fans that bet must be satisfied with
7.5.
Philly fans must be ok with giving up 7.5 points !

This being the 1st game of the "new" cowboys makes it very hard to guess how they will do
against the best nfl team which are the eagles.
I think they might do good , keep it close or even win, but the odds are against that.

I looked at all the games of the first week, and didnt see any that I would want to bet on lol.
They are mostly even matchups that could go either way.

The 7.5 is the O/U for Cowboys wins for the season, not the point spread for the first game.

0-17 isn't going to get you Archie unless you do it for the 2027 draft
Ok, I have no idea when archie is coming out or if he is going to be good.
I think I will start watching texas games so I can evaluate him.

I dont think shotty wants to tank his first year, so they should be trying to win.
At least early on.

Name me any team that's gone exactly 12-5 four out of five years.

The odds alone make 12-5 a dumb prediction, but then again, homers gonna homer.
Any team having the same record 4 out of 5 years would be wild. That said, the 17 game season has only been in a thing since 2021, so numbers would be skewed a great deal against many (any?) team going 12-5 for 4 of 5 seasons.

However, I agree Irvin is a homer, I thought he was going 17-0 tbh....and I would've loved it.
