They are comparing Wade Phillips comments after the season to Mike Tomlin's press conference yesterday.

Coach Cupcake said he did some things wrong and he was going to see what he did wrong. He was also going to ask other people what he did wrong and what he can do to correct his mistakes including the players.

Tomlin was told that some veteran players said he was a better coach this year compared to last year. Tomlin responded by saying he didn't care how other people evaluated him. He said he was paid to evaluate the players not not vice-versa. He then asked the reported how his editor was doing.

Another words he's the coach and I do the evaluating period. I coach you play.

That's what leaders do. That was Jimmy Johnson.

Irvin said Jimmy use to tell them before the game what to expect so they would be prepared if it happened during the game. After the game Jimmy would talk to them and all you would hear from the players say to the media was what Jimmy told them after the game. Win or Lose.

With this bunch all we hear are excuses. Just like Pillsbury Dough boy.

It's a same!!! I'm sick.

I can't stand Tomlin but he has the right mindset for a HC. his actions suggest otherwise like chest bumping big ben during games and what not. but he has the right mind set. let's compare

Tomlin's mindset: I coach and you do what I tell you to do.

Wade's mindset: we're family and if you make mistakes I'll take the blame

it's sad when tomlin makes your own HC look bad.

tomlins a pretty bad HC (take away his DC and they'd be lost). gameday mistakes galore. but he has total backing of the owners/GM and players know he's not going anywhere.

put him on a mediocre team and his expiration date would be coming up.

Same with the Ravens and Rex Ryan.

Exactly. Soft Coach. Soft Team. Tomlin may not be a great coach and without Lebeau he will suck but he wont be soft.

I was listening to this too! It continues to prove my point that I have been making since the loss to the giants in playoffs, that Wade should be fired NOW!

I really don't know how important being the best in-game tactician is, what matters more is how your team reacts to your coaching and how prepared they are going into games. Tomlin succeeds in these phases because obviously his team is focused during the week and motivated come game time.....can't say the same for Wade.

I don't agree with this at all..........

I'm no Steeler or Tomlin supporter, but this is a "chicken or the egg" discussion. Are they good because of Tomlin, or does the team and the DC make him look good?

In Tomlin's defense, it is HIS Defensive Coordinator on HIS coaching staff, so even if it is the DC, give him credit as a HC for being smart enough to delegate smartly. Also, the team really hasn't missed a beat since Cowher retired, and THAT'S no small feat following a Pittsburgh legendary coach.

Thirdly, the "put him on a mediocre team" routine.................that was a very popular rant back in the Triplet days. "Put Troy on a mediocre team", and "put Emmitt in Detroit and he'd be nothing", and "Put Irvin and Novececk with Bubby Bristor and............." It's a boring and lame "out" of not giving credit where credit is due.

Some coaches DO inherit a mediocre team and DO have a big part in making the team successful. It ain't Tomlin's fault that he inherited a recent SB winner. But give him credit for at least "holding down the fort" as he has. He'd got them knocking on the door again.

Again, not a Steeler fan, but at this point I AM ROOTING for them to win it all. They're one of the quality organizations in the NFL, and there's a reason why Tomlin has the full backing and 100% support of the owners/GM, players..............and you forgot THE FANS as well.

The Cowboys would do a mighty tick or two better with THAT set-up in Dallas. Your post sounds more like sour-grapes and jealousy than anything else..................

He's one of the best young coaches in the NFL if not the best, I can understand your hate when you consider what Dallas has in Phillips....

Demote yourself to Defensive Coordinator. That'll do it.

At some point, you have to get sick of these "Take away X, and Y would be awful."

Take away Jerry Rice and Joe Montana becomes average.
Take away Emmitt's offensive line, and he wouldn't have been great.
Take away Marvin Harrison, and Peyton wouldn't be who he is.
Take away the running game, and Eli Manning would be Just Another Guy.

And on and on and on it goes.

Look, no one player does anything without the help of others, especially in a team sport.

Even so, it's what they do with the talent, as many talented teams go no where without all the pieces together.

Knocking Tomlin is silly. He's the coach. This same Steelers team bowed out in the playoffs last year.

This year they're playing in the AFC Championship.

That says something about his heading coach abilities.

way off tangent.

tomlin is a bottom-10 coach

regardless of Pitt's record.

sorry.

but you give wade tomlin's authority & franchise coach tag and he'll do better too.

front office support makes bad coaches better & gives them authority over players. even superstars.

jerry just doesn't get it.
