Michael Irvin thinks he knows exactly why the Cowboys lost to the Packers in the playoffs

The sad part is if the Cowboys get back into that position the fans will still be calling for safe spaces and how smart that approach is. They didn't learn from 2007. They won't learn from 2016.

And if Jason Garrett is the head coach you can take it to the bank he will go coward in crunch time. He's got no backbone. He's a fake tough guy. Like Mike Zimmer.
Well in 2014 against the Commanders in the last game we played all our starters and still come up short in the playoff. Is Garrett a great coach NO. but he coaches a one sided team. We need talent on the defense to over come his coaching. Not a lot of fans were upset when we won 11 in a row the coaching was very good. Then we lose in the playoff and they all suck. Bill Parcells coach the cowboys it was Jerry fault we didn't win, Wade Phillips coach us he wasn't head coach material. I guess I'm just old school but I've never seen a Cowboys team in a super bowl that didn't have a go od or very good defense? and none of these coaches had one

I 100% agree with Irvin that we should have left Romo in and allowed him to finish the game out. I said it before and during the game but NO we had to play the worst QB we had and end the regular season on a sour note. We could have easily won the game with Romo, charting a franchise record 14th regular season win and entered the playoffs with some momentum. Plus we could have increased Romo's trade value. How Garrett handled the season finale was stupid and I said repeatedly it would end up costing us in the playoffs.

You brought up the Patriots as an example, so that's why I mentioned them.

Better send a reminder to Belichik that they play to the end. They rested many of their starters week 17, including Gronk and Brady, lost to the Bills at home, and still managed to win the Super Bowl in 2015.

For a non-Pats example, how about the 13-0 New Orleans team that lost their first game to the Cowboys? They also lost week 17 when they rested Drew Brees and other starters. Didn't seem to stop them from winning the Super Bowl.
That is a great argument if you think Garrett is close to Belichick or even Payton for that matter.

Other than the fact that all 8 Cowboys teams that went to the Super Bowl won their season finale.

Are we really trying to cherry pick the Patriots? Injuries can happen. Get a dog. They play to the end and they win championships for it.
I made a comment about week 14 that we needed to go into the playoffs on a roll. I stated that momentum was important...and I was picked apart. If we had won, it wouldn't bother me the path we took at all. But, I still believe the minute you start playing "not to lose," the game is already decided. Just ask the Falcons.

Between the Dunbar thing and empty sets with the best RB in the league on the bench, it is pretty frustrating to watch.

The empty sets in the red zone especially. We did that crap vs the eagles. Replacing Elliot for Dunbar would be like replacing Dez for Kevin Ogletree

But. But. Dunbar is a weapon. Have heard it right here for several years now.

The truth is, this team had an inflated record to begin with. The team stayed remarkably healthy, and they caught a bunch of teams that were unhealthy or weren't the teams they were expected to be. Dallas was very fortunate to win both Commanders games, the Vikings game, the Steelers game, and the first Eagles game. Dallas could have very easily gone 0-6 in the division.

Atlanta would have beaten the high holy hell out of Dallas. Green Bay did us a favor.
This is ridiculous. Especially the "we could have very easily gone 0-6 in the division." part. We could have also gone 6-0 in the division. You beat who you beat when you beat them. That doesn't make the win any less impressive or satisfying. You weren't saying this when Dallas won those games.

It's not hindsight when you said it before it happened.

And, besides, "hindsight" is how you learn from your mistakes.
The fans of 31 teams can, every year, make a prediction of how their coach is going to screw up, and they will be correct based on the way their season will end. That isn't evidence that it's accurate.

Absolutely maddening. The most important down in football and your best runner, receiver and blocker out of the backfield is on the bench.

To think grown men sat around a table and came to this conclusion as the best approach to take baffles me.

I just think it is certain people who think they are clever making stupid decisions.

Coaching scared and being afraid of players getting hurt just exposes overall weakness.

All we heard all year is about the crazy depth we had at QB and RB, then we rest both starters after a series. Then put Romo in for a token drive. Playing some stiff like Sanchez certainly did not help the rhythm of the offense either.

Garrett talked the talk, going into the Eagles game about keeping the foot on the gas, but he couldn't walk the walk. Can't expect to win pro game with Sanchez at QB. Garrett said all the right things, as usual, but didn't follow through.

Grabbing at straws. The Cowboys rested their starters in the 90's with Aikman, Irvin, and Smith all in street clothes in finales, including against the Commanders, and that didn't stop them from winning Super Bowls.

It's easy to say it was this or it was that, just like pointing to one play and saying that's why we lost or they won. It's a 60 minute game with an average of 60-70 plays per game per team. You lose by one score or less; why you lost is a ridiculous game to play.

The only correct answer is "we didn't score enough points"

Let's also remember, that while we hate seeing Zeke off the field, he still had more touches and more plays than any other back in the NFL this season. I'm no expert on NFL bodies and careers, but just how much do you play the guy when he's already carried the rock more than anyone in the league and been used in pass protection most of the season because no one else was healthy except Morris.

Playing Dunbar in 3rd downs drove me nuts all year. Zeke is better than Dunbar in all phases of the game, makes no sense to take your best player off the field for the most important down. If Zeke needs a blow, use the depth for that.
