Michael Irvin: We don't have a talent problem, we have a heart problem

Well, it's largely his fault for refusing to call out Jason Garrett's inept coaching.
Michael Irvin blames everyone else but Garrett and has helped create this mess by talking to Jerry with his input but refusing to call Jason out.
Private conversations should be private.

How do you know Irvin has not said something to Jerrah?

You guys forget Irvin is now part of the media. Jerrah has to be careful what he says and to whom.

Besides..Jerrah knows exactly what he has in Garrett.

After playing here as a backup, playing as a coach here and other places over 20+ years..

Jerrah knows.

So do we.

I have nothing against either Jerrah or Garrett.

But what I do know is they should both not be on this team at the same time.

He's on 105.3 the Fan right now ranting on the players. I'll transcribe a bit.

- He said he's been doing a lot of thinking about this team over the last few days and determined that "we didn't overrate the talent, we overrated the heart of the team."

- He thinks that the players don't seem like they really want it and he's shocked that they're not more bothered/motivated by all the negative things the media says about them.

- When he was asked about the team lacking a Michael Irvin type of leader on gamedays to fire up the sideline he said it's hard for the leaders to lead on Sunday if they're not leading Monday thru Saturday.

- He said that he and some players used to meet all the time at the Cowboys Cafe at Valley Ranch on their off time and plan out how they were going to win championships. He doesn't get the vibe that this group is doing that. Not enough communication btw players outside of football.

Overall he sounded incredibly frustrated with this group of players.

There is no leadership in this organization. The owner appoints himself GM for life, regardless of results, undermines his coaches - unwittingly stripping them of any authority or respect - and we wonder why players don't perform to their potential? How do you expect the coach to motivate them when they know they can go over his head?

Add to that giving his kids jobs-for-life and it quickly becomes apparent to the team that there is no accountability. Sooner or later a coach gets sacrificed, but the operation doesn't change and neither do the results. Go ahead, bring in a new coach. Unless he's given control don't expect miracles. You'll get what you've been getting.

I got ridiculed for starting a thread saying the same thing. It's very obvious the problem starts with these players and their lack of heart to fight and win games. Players like Amari, Zeke and Lawrence so quickly allowing themselves to take plays off by heading to the sidelines, especially during key drives, or important end of game plays where the game is on the line, is totally unacceptable. Jerry should fine them heavily. If they continue doing it, find a way to get rid of them if need be. That type of "lack of heart" determination from so called leaders is absolute poison to the rest of the team. This is not a problem a head coach alone can fix. This is a problem that Jerry the General Manager is fully responsible for.

I respectively disagree. Hill is “talent”? Jackson? Smith? Bueller...bueller? Pollard is the only player they got help from in that draft!! What the hell is everyone smoking? No one wants to talk about this but it’s a big point. They blew it damn it...and we got rants on heart? What’s that have to do with sinking your own roster ship? Jack squat. Go on and tell me who’s the depth at LB? Yeah exactly. Nothing. Now when you got two LBs hurting what’s your plan Stan? See,they blew it. No better up front on d-line and diddly doo on the backends, along with poor coaching. It’s why I keep hearing analysts pointing to defense as main problem. It’s a hot extra cheesy tuna sandwich mess on our shirts. Talent? No they need it on that side a lot,as well as STs.

^^^^^^^ this. :facepalm::facepalm::facepalm:

This is the stats and contract generation. Winning is secondary.

A long way from when Irvin played.

Go back and see what Zeke wrote to Cook on the jersey his swapped out. I am not sure if this mentality is a generational thing or a Cowboys thing.

Ok Michael  There is a lack of talent, other than the O line and RB (which is becoming more and more questionable every year) please show me where all this talent is. LBer? Nope. Secondary? Nope. D line? Not really. TE? Nope. WR? maybe a little when Cooper isn’t dropping balls.

Where’s the talent? This is just the newest wave of excuses. How about no heart and average “talent”?

Or a ZEKE thing. He’s the only one who held out with 2 years left on his contract and demanded to be paid the highest for his position. I haven’t seen any other Cowboy player EVER do that. Hell, how many other players in the league have done that with 2 years left on their contract?

And our dumb*** owner caved.

Your organization is perfectly designed to deliver the results that you are getting.

Let that sink in for a second.

A football team should be the reflection of their head coach.

The Cowboys are the reflection of Jerry Jones.

I want Garrett gone, but he didn’t coach these idiots to be gutless wonders that won’t play up to their talent level.

He's completely right!! We don't have heart on this team. Few players seem to care.

No doubt Jerry sent the wrong message to those just looking to get paid. Both Zeke and Tank took Jerry to the cleaners. People are now wondering why Dak and Amari haven’t signed. I’m afraid Amari is just another one looking to get paid.

Well gee Michael. Tell us something Cowboys Nation doesn't already know!

No. First, he didn't show them their talent level.
Then he failed to show them which direction to focus it.

..until that new HC, implements better philosophies. Dallas wont wont see another SB for years more to come.

yet again, most of these players dont care, they dont know what its like to be in winning shoes. That saying comes to mind: "what you dont know, wont hurt you".

Paying Jaylon Smith was a slap in the face to the real contributors on this team. Making no progress on the Dak and Amari contracts sends a weird message.

Yep... said same thing.

You can't teach heart... drive... the will to be the best....You have it or you don't. There is probably about 3 players on this whole starting roster that have it.

Now, if you bring a coach in that has control of the roster and the staff... you can probably form that new culture, and player base here. But, we all know that will never happen lol.

Belichick would probably poison Jerry's food if he were here lol.
