It's the offseason. Things are slow. Something I noticed and wanted to share. Watch this video. You've probably seen it before but watch it again through my eye...
Please pay no attention to the abomination of Rayne winning rookie of the year while a vastly superior rookie stands beside him. That's not the point. We all hate that. We don't need the negative comments about it.
No. Watch Michael Irvin. Or Irving, for half our crowd. He's in attendance and is shown at the 2:13 mark of the video. Look at the man. That's genuine. You would think his own son just won that award. "Cowboys, baby!....My boys!" he clearly says. He's shown again at the 2:25 mark bouncing out of his seat. He's a proud papa.
(Watch it on Youtube. It's worth it and it would really help me out with the rest of this post.)
Now understand, Michael Irvin doesn't really have much of a connection to Ezekiel Elliott or what's his face. He used to play on the team they play for now. 20 years ago. That's it. He's moved on to a career in media. There is absolutely no reason why you would expect him to react in that fashion.
Notice the difference in reactions from Irvin and teammates of Zeke and the other guy. Their head coach. Even a former Cowboy in Deion Sanders. It's night and day.
This is why Michael Irvin is and probably always will be my favorite Dallas Cowboy of all time. Coach or player. Because with Irvin it's truly all about this....
Others talk it. Mike walks it. The stats, the fame, the glory, they all pale in comparison to the logo. Team. It's all about team. America's Team.
He's the only coach or player I've ever seen on this team who I definitively know loves the Cowboys as much as any fan. Unconditionally. For life.
Michael Jerome Irvin. The greatest Dallas Cowboy of all time.
