I dont see how Sam is not eligible for the PS, especially for a team lacking pressure players. Now some poster my feel he was brought in for publicity, knowing Jerry's history. But if is added its to the PS, he is not taking up a roster spot, if he shows something maybe he sticks, if he doesnt he will be cut.

Was the board shut down in this case. No
Reality is no matter our opinion it matters not to the FO...just like I said and you clearly have a problem understanding.

Lol

"It is not up to you" is what you said
This could be said in response to every single post you (or I) make, because it is true

Not sure you (or I) would like that, even though it would be true

Thanks for the write up - while he might be a legit project, this move seems more sensational than developmental, IMO.

Sensational would of been signing him to the 53 roster right away and having a press conference over it.

He isn't going to be suited up on the sideline hoping to play, with the media wondering when he'll be substituted in.

His point was not that you were going to shut down the board. His point was why did you make the comment you did? His point was that you simply disagreed with the guy who said, "I'll pass." Because if the real issue was whether or not the Cowboys care about ANY of our comments, then you WOULD shut down the board. They are ALL opinions.

It is not because I disagree with the initial poster. I was posting a fact.

I hate..>HATE the idea of them bringing back Brent. But at the end of the day my opinion on that situation means Jack Squat to the team as they already have their minds set to bringing him back.

Sometimes people on here look WAAAAAY to much into simple posts.

Not sure why all the negativity. If his name was John Doe, we would be glad the team is looking at other options and ways to improve the team.

geesh. He's gay, so what. It won't mean more jersey sales, ticket sales, or anything else. Will more people watch? Perhaps. But the extra number of viewers won't even register on the ratings.

He's just a kid trying to make a living. The media will move on to the next thing. They always do. Just like what's his name in San Diego.

The reason for the negatively depends on who you ask. You state your opinion when you say, "he's gay, so what." Not everyone holds that opinion. You say, "he's just a kid trying to make a living." I think everyone should be able to hold that opinion. So there are some who will agree with your ultimate conclusion, who don't agree with the reasoning behind it. I think it is absolutely fine to be a fan of the Cowboys who likes the move. Why do some have to force other Cowboys fans to like it, who don't like it? I'm one who doesn't like the move. As BP has already pointed out, I don't think its going to change what happens in Jerry world today. So there it is. I either enjoy the Cowboys regardless or I move on. My choice.

Yet you also stated...his was just as relevant as mine...except you don't like mine so you continue to drone on about it.

Gotcha

Ah, ok. I understand now. I hate them bringing back Brent too. But as you say, they will do what they want to.

Nah, Jerry is getting bang for the buck. He doesn't have to play a guy who really doesn't fit our scheme. He gets credit for advancing the cause in today's NFL and only has to pay the guy practice squad money. In terms of the media, if you don't think there will ever be a question about when Michael Sam gets activated, I have a bridge to sell you.

It is not up to you...or I...or anyone else on this forum...unless Jerry or other members of the Dallas Cowboys FO are posting here under different user names.

There's also no harm in him sharing his opinion on the matter. If he's not a fan of the guy, who are you to tell him he's wrong?

Personally, I think it'd be a hell of a story if he could be a major contributor to America's Team, I wish him all the best, but completely accept that the guy has a lot of flaws as a player. Granted, he'll be learning from the best coaches on earth (in the NFL), and he will only improve with time.

The more I think about this move it's for when Spencer can't make it....and we're just covering our bases. Hopefully Spencer isn't trying to steal Jerry's money.....But I suspect that's what is happening.

I did not say he was wrong....did I?
I did not say there was harm in him sharing his opinion...did I?

The answer to both of those questions is No.

i don't see any down side. he is on the ps so he is not taking up a roster spot. he was a fine college player and had a nice pre season. if you look at him as just a football player, then i think you have to say it's a great signing. if he developes you get a player, if he does'nt you lose nothing.
he has a long ways to go to be an impact player in the nfl. but there are much less talented guys on every ps in the nfl

Based on last year, the team had to bring in guys from the street to play DL. I would take the SEC defensive player of the year over those guys any day of the week.

And yes, he's only on the PS. I'm sure he only gets called up if the numbers start to dwindle again due to injury. By the time Week 6 rolls around, and he's still sitting on the PS, nobody will even remember he's on the team.

Serious question, how does he not fit our scheme?

Of course the media will ask. I doubt it'll affect Garrett's process lol.
I don't see this carrying momentum with the media for long. Hell, for all we know he could be cut from the PS next week. And if he does he get activated, there will be a week or two of ESPN overcoverage then it should settle.

There is way less risk here than the McClain trade. I don't mind it at all. I hope he can contribute.

No, that would be sensationally stupid, this is just sensational.

Sam played in about nine quarters in four preseason games (3 v NO, 2 v GB, 1 v CLE, and 4 v MIA). I counted 2 sacks and 3 pressures. Here are the sacks:
Both sacks came in the 4th quarter when it was 3rd down and forever (19 & 21 respectively). Flynn tried getting away but Sam closed the distance quickly. Manziel was locked in on his receiver and he got blindsided. Two of his pressures were because he was not blocked. The other pressure, Sam got by a block with speed.

Sam would have had 2 TFL's this preseason but he missed both. One was on a shotgun hand off. He got through the line quickly and had the RB dead to rights but he whiffed on the tackle. The other play he split a block and got to the ball carrier about 2 or 3 yards behind the line of scrimmage. He was just behind the RB and goes for the tackle but couldn't wrap up and the ball carrier turns a negative play into a positive one.

Sam played primarily LDE. St. Louis had Sam line up as RDE for one series and he couldn't do anything. Sam doesn't have enough speed or the pass rushing moves to compete on the weak side right now. We need RDE's.

I was a little surprised that Sam can play against the run. He's stronger than I thought. He can handle 2nd team RT's. Sam was able to set the edge by using his long arms and a good base. He would be an even better run defender if he could shed blocks quicker.

Overall, Sam has some ability but he needs work. He isn't quick enough to win with speed only. Especially against better competition because he struggled against backups. Sam isn't going to overtake any of our defensive ends on the roster. He isn't good enough. He does have a nice motor and he doesn't give up on plays. I think the practice squad is where he belongs. He can get more work and in time he could turn into a player.

I always appreciate actually football talk on this forum and the people that make the effort to do that, thanks Florida

Its keeping the Cowboys relevant for another few days with the mediots. And the added benefit, it could be entertaining. Win win for Jerrah.

Here we are getting ready to kick off the season against the hated 40 Whiners and we're talking about this stuff. Not about the game. Not about the game. The game that we all love. Not about the game. We talkin bout practice players. We talking bout practice players. Not the game. Not the game.

I think you just said something;)
Not the game .... but praktiss (players)... Classic!!

That is something they need to ask Jerry...As Jerry was the one who said they did not think he fit what they were looking for around draft time.

I think (just me spit balling here) they initially viewed him as a tweener.
