Just some random thoughts:

1) we're 4-4...that sux...there is no way this team, as healthy as it is should be 4-4...there are a couple of players probably underachieving somewhat, but ultimately its mediocre coaching and preparation that has us where we're at.

2) biggest surprise- the solid play of Tony Romo...definitely has shown huge progress and looks like a potential gem

3) biggest disappointment- mediocrity on defense...no way with this talent we should be so inconsistent and be so downright dreadful at rushing the passer..thats all coaching IMO

4) best rookie- I guess Fasano by default...not that he's been great, but he's the only one who is seeing the field

5) offensive MVP---if he had played more games, I'd probably go with Romo...but since he has started only 2 games I'm going with Julius Jones...he has almost 700 yds, on pace for almost 1400...3 100 yd games and lost only one fumble in 168 touches

6) defensive MVP---I'll go with Newman...Roy is having a good year and has produced mroe big plays, but Newman shuts everybody out and almost nobody throws at him (and its probably for a reason)...when you also factor in how truly pathetic our pass rush really is, Newman's great coverage is even more amazing...and he's a good tackler and good vs the run

7) special teams MVP---nobody...we still have mediocre special teams

8) best decision-- finally benching Bledsoe, going with Romo

9) worst decision--1a) not making the above decision sooner 1b) the ignorant decision to go for 2pt vs Washington

10) best assistant coach---he has gotten no talk whatsoever, but Chris Palmer's work is definitely noticeable with Romo...he looks like a totally different passer than he was before this yr...accuracy is way better and his decision making is improved

11) worst assistant coach---Zimmer...hands down one of the worst in football when it comes to pressuring QB's...alot of the big plays we've surrendered would have never happened if we had any semblence of a pass rush...we've played 8 games, take out the one fluke performance vs Washington in week 2 and we have 12 sacks in 7 games...

12) not so bold predictions 1) we finish 8-8 or 9-7 at best and miss the playoffs 2) Parcells and this entire staff will be gone after the season 3) Owens wont be back in 2007 4) we'll use 2 or 3 draft picks on OL in April 5) Demarcus Ware will have 14-16 sacks a yr after this season 5) barring major catastrophic injuries in 2007, we'll win the Super Bowl

Well David glad to see you finally got the point that Bledsoe was a huge problem with this offense. It only took a couple hundred mentions. :)

not so bold predictions 1) we finish 8-8 or 9-7 at best and miss the playoffs

Sad but true.

2) Parcells and this entire staff will be gone after the season

That better be the case. Bill's a bigger thief than Drew Henson.

3) Owens wont be back in 2007

That's a given. No way we go through another year of this non-stop horsecrap. Anyone know the cap implications when we set him free next March?

4) we'll use 2 or 3 draft picks on OL in April

Agreed, but will they find the right guys? Recent history says no. We could have had Javon Walker for a mere second round pick.

5) Demarcus Ware will have 14-16 sacks a yr after this season

No. Zimmer's long overdue exit won't produce that kind of magical transformation/production.

5) barring major catastrophic injuries in 2007, we'll win the Super Bowl

Let's just make the playoffs first.

This team is full of a bunch of under achievers really. When you have a team full of a bunch of blue chip prospects from college and as many first round picks it's ashame to have the kind of defense the Cowboys have now!

The coaching is a big question mark for me because of the success of Payton and Gibbs. Right now Payton is eveybodys mid season MVP coach.

Both OC and DC for the saints came from this coaching staff. Yet our offense did not look that good last year compared to the Saints Offense this year.

So is BP holding back this coaching staff or Zimmer and Haley that bad?

Without a doubt. This guys scheme is a black hole for pass rushers. I thought the 3-4 was a pressure defense allowing the rush to come from all angles. I guess you cannot attack a defense when you must read and react first. I saw another post mentioning Richard Seymour. If he played here he wouldn't get more pressure than Canty or Spears.

I don't understand the loyalty to Zimmer. His first year as DC his scheme allowed for 2 or 3- 200 yard rushers (Staley, Garner and I forget). Uncle Dave had to get involved in the defense to stop the bleeding. He's terrible. The pure talent has been able to over come his terrible scheme allowing us to get the 4th or 5th rated defense. You answered your own question...We let the wrong coach walk.

Parcells has too much control over his play callers.

Further, SB in 2007 with a new coach or staff is a pipe dream.

Owen's will be back, Jerry will see to that for sure.

2pt play did not win or lose the game and was not our worst decision by far.

From: http://www.dallascowboys.com/news.cfm?id=0AA99FCF-E052-0B98-C9620525F11B9854

"Owens is scheduled to pocket $10 million this season, combining his $5 million signing bonus with his $5 million base salary, which equates to a $6.66 million salary cap charge in 2006. He has a pair of $3 million roster bonuses due over the next two years, and is scheduled to receive a $5 million base salary in 2007 and a $4 million in base in 2008."

But the good news from: http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/cowboys/2006-08-10-owens-parcells_x.htm

"Owens is due $8 million next year and $7 million in 2008, but only the amount for this season is guaranteed. That structure gives the Cowboys an escape after this season"

GROTO!
Can't deny his talent, but he's not the type of player you build long term winning tradition with. I was againast his signing from the beginning as Ex-Cowboys were (Drew Pearson) because the Dallas Cowboys once only allowed players with class on the field.

read the article there. It is very possible that we could sneak in the playoffs at 9-7. And 9-7 is IMO the most likely scenario. With losses to IND, @ NYG, @ ATL.

If this so happens, i think BP will be back, as well as Owens. Zimmer should be fired, hands down, we need a d coord. that can actually design plays that get pressure.

I think we can make the playoffs though, I havent lost hope yet!!

I think I would give some of the credit to that coach we let go. ;)

Yep, all those penalties on Henry and Williams....just the product of bad coaching. That Parcells, he can't coach his way out of a paper bag.

It's funny but when Romo does well, Payton gets the credit. When Henry looks completely clueless...it's Parcells fault.

You folks are all wet.

T.O. will absolutely be back. He and Romo are developing a chemistry that might lead us back to the big dance. (not this year but hopefully next year)
