We appear to be stuck with Wade so no coaching change.
The Draft is far away and we do not have a first anyway.
So might as well put together a wish list for FA.

Myself I would be looking at 3 positions: Tackle, ILB, safety.
Oh and if a good NT happened to be available.....

safety
backup qb then draft someone late
ilb
center (gurode's high snaps are gonna kill us soon)
T/G

i'd love to see us focus on this in FA and the draft. we only have $10mil in FA and no idea where ware is on his contract demands.

will be a boring off-season likely and i'm already bracing for all the ROY WILLIAMS SUCKS (it works twice now) threads that people will moan about when we miss a pick because of the trade.

Plus do not look for any big signings look instead for moderate priced solid players lunch pail guys one that show up and know their job and make a play here and there.

Forget about the Ray Lewis or Albert Haynesworth not going to happen

i don't think we need the flash players. we need as you say - the lunch pail ones. like dan campbell was for us so to speak. we need solid player who play football, not pose for cameras.

Nope....

They will keep the younger Suggs and Scott and let Big Ray walk.

It might be a PR hit but Newsome knows he will spend too much on keeping all 3.

#1 - Back-up Tackle. I don't think Guard will be as high a priority with a healthy Kozier and Holland coming back.
#2 - a Cover Saftey, even if they plan on moving Henry back there full-time.
#3 - ILB to compete for Zach's spot

Use an actual Draft pick on a QB, please, unless a Jeff Garcia is available.

What's it going to be then, eh?

We have also been told by Mister Jones that we are not going to be major players in free agency, not to mention it is not a stellar group anyways. Looks like everything from coaches to players is pointing to 2010.

I'de be very happy LB Bart Scott, S Dawan Landry, and a veteran, run stuffing nose tackle that occupies two blockers to help free up Ratliff even more at defensive end and let Canty go unless he stays for a decent price

I agree .... the free agent QB list is not very appealing.

A couple of RFA's we could look at. Of course, with RFA's it all depends on what tender their team gives them.

Someone mentioned Dawan Landry from Baltimore. I doubt they let him go but they pretty much went this whole year without him and they have a list of players (Suggs, Scott, Lewis) to re-sign.

Jarrad Page FS Chiefs 6-0/225 had 63 tackles and 4 INT's in 2008. He was a 7th round pick in 2006.

Gabe Watson NT Cardinals 6-3/332 had 15 tackles and 1 sack (as a reserve) in 2008. He was a 4th round pick in 2006.

If their teams don't offer them the higher tenders (1st and 2nd round picks) I would give up a 4th and a 7th for these two players. They have experience and they won't cost as miuch as some of the big name free agents.

i'd love to see us sign a backup qb and ilb in FA. i think we can find a NT or S in the draft.

QB: r.fitzpatrick, orlavsky, leftwich, batch, carr
ILB: pipe dream but r.lewis (balt needs to sign suggs/scott. do they give big money to lewis who will be 34 compared to scott who is only 28?)

We don't want Ray Lewis. He'd be Zach Thomas 2.0. Bad fit for the defense.

except that he has played well in the 3-4 before (including this year), outweighs zach by at least 10-15 lbs and is the leader we are missing. he would keep people accountable and in line IMO.

what makes him a bad fit for our 3-4 when he is a beast in the ravens 3-4?

Four Words: Johnnie Lee Higgins Jr.

Ok, so he's not a FA, but I think Dallas can made a trade for him. Send Stanback/Hurd, Roy Williams to Oakland for Higgins + 2009 2nd day draft pick. He easily replaces both stanback/hurd and we can dump Roy.

I think saftey is the biggest hole in the defense, both a starter and depth. I'm happy with Newman/Jenkins/Scandrick/Henry/Ball at CB.

A legit 3-4 NT would be great. Ratliff could do so much at DE. The only decent NT comng out in FA is Haynesworth but I don't think Dallas can afford him.

OLine; LT + Depth. I think Kosier proved to be the most important player on that Oline this year b/c w/o him, things fell apart. Flozell can't handle speed rushers anymore and he's a penalty machine. The only FAs i found were: Tauscher, Runyan, Tra Thomas, Wilie Colon, Marvel Smith.

Backup QB: I'd like Jeff Garcia. I know there's the thing between he and Owens but I just like his attitude/fire.

Not sure about a MLB though...not much out there this year

This has to be one of the least likeliest trades I have ever seen suggested.

Right now I think we need, through FA and draft, Back up QB, NT, Safety, ILB, O-Line depth.

Those are the places I'd spend the most time looking to improve.

It wasn't that long ago that he cried out to the Ravens FO to get some bodies in front of him because he couldn't handle the banging from the interior OL. Sounds like he couldn't handle being in the 3-4 to me. And it's not like the Cowboys have a line that will keep him from being touched.
