Might as well speculate on FA's

It wasn't that long ago that he cried out to the Ravens FO to get some bodies in front of him because he couldn't handle the banging from the interior OL. Sounds like he couldn't handle being in the 3-4 to me. And it's not like the Cowboys have a line that will keep him from being touched.

i remember that, but i haven't heard him complaining lately and he's doing really well in the ravens 3-4 this year. from what i remember (and it could be wrong :D) the ravens D wasn't that effective in the 4-3 scheme, that's why they went back....

We appear to be stuck with Wade so no coaching change.
The Draft is far away and we do not have a first anyway.
So might as well put together a wish list for FA.

Myself I would be looking at 3 positions: Tackle, ILB, safety.
Oh and if a good NT happened to be available.....

The Cowboys won't be looking at OT's. You nailed it on safety and ILB, but I think they'll also be looking at OG/C depth, FB (a real bruiser), and backup QB.

We'll be looking at those in the draft as well.

except that he has played well in the 3-4 before (including this year), outweighs zach by at least 10-15 lbs and is the leader we are missing. he would keep people accountable and in line IMO.

what makes him a bad fit for our 3-4 when he is a beast in the ravens 3-4?

I think a few people will probably balk at his age and make the claim that he's slowing down and doesn't have it anymore. I'm sure that will be said at least 300 times once FA kicks off if there is even a hint that Dallas might want to try and get him.

QB - Jeff Garcia

MLB - Channing Crowder

Interesting and zero shot on either. Garcia isn't going to sign anywhere that he's not going to get a legit shot to compete for the starting job so that puts him out and something tells me the Dolphins won't be letting Crowder leave.

I thought it was a complaint about the 4-3, at the time, because they had undersized DT's in the 4-3 and that wasn't working for him, or the team, cause they'd gotten used to having two bigger guys in the middle of the 4-3.

He played, and played extremely well, in a 3-4 this year so I really don't see where anyone would think he can't do it again.

Nope....

They will keep the younger Suggs and Scott and let Big Ray walk.

It might be a PR hit but Newsome knows he will spend too much on keeping all 3.
Ray Lewis makes that defense go. they're not getting rid of him unless they try to be extremely cheap to the face of there franchise.

What is this fascination with Jeff Garcia? As far as I know, he has never played in any system except the WCO which we don't run. The guy is almost as ancient as Brad Johnson.

Can we please avoid going with QBs who are nearly as old as me. Otherwise Jerry might as well sign me up. I've still got a good arm. :D

I'd much prefer we go with a younger guy.

we will make like 3 trades during the draft to move around, thats my prediction

you have a better shot of being correct than anyone.

9 overall picks but many late ones.

Good news is recent day 2 picks have landed Scandrick, Ratliff, Barber et al.

They are not necessarily a total waste like they used to be.

I think we will actually move up in round 2.

Well, maybe not. His age makes him an incredible risk at the price he is going to command. It just takes one team willing to take that risk to make him 'worth' (in some sense of the term) whatever price is beyond the Ravens' desire/ability to match.

I think an important distinction can be made between what we could best puruse in FA and what we will then likely pursue in the draft with several second day picks.

Which leads me to think that the biggest FA priorities will be the ones that aren't likely to be obtained with our backweighted draft pick selection. I would put backup QB at the top of the FA list -- we're not likely to get a guy capable of filling in for Romo at a moment's notice even in the 2nd round. I could see us going after a good cover safety or LT to challenge Flozell or an ageing but huge NT to, at the least, backup Ratliff.

For those that want Ray Lewis, be prepared to lose Bradie James if he is aquired.

Like Zach, Ray prefers and has had all his success playing the strongside ILB, which James plays now. Unlike Zach, Ray will not switch positions so late in his career.

And James cannot play the weakside ILB, he just does not have the speed to play sideline to sideline or coverage ability the position requires.

Just make sure to take care of Demarcus Ware.

At this point the FA market just does not seem to be interesting.

Unless things change I imagine we will just be looking for depth players and ST guys.

Personally, I'd rather lock up the guys we already have than go fishing or more retreads. There are very few players on the roster who I just have to see them gone to be happy. In fact it might only be 2 or 3 players. Locking up our own is always cheaper than playing the FA game.

#1 - Back-up Tackle. I don't think Guard will be as high a priority with a healthy Kozier and Holland coming back.
#2 - a Cover Saftey, even if they plan on moving Henry back there full-time.
#3 - ILB to compete for Zach's spot

Use an actual Draft pick on a QB, please, unless a Jeff Garcia is available.

i love the part of your sig....how your is incorrectly spelled. It's funny

The Miner fan in you is showing. :)
yes, yes it is, BUT look at the numbers keeping in mind that 14 of his 22rec came in the last 4 games of the year (vs SD, NE, HOU, TB):

As a WR:
22 rec 366yds (16.6yds/rec) 4tds; that's a better avg than Crayton.

KO Returns:
Higgins: 36ret 842yds (23.4 avg)
F.Jones/Stanback/A.Jones/Scandrick: 37rec 848yds (22.9 avg)

Punt Returns:
Higgins: 44ret (12FC) 13yds/ret, 3tds
A.Jones/Crayton/Battle/: 37rec (9FC) 6.4yds/ret, 0tds

The guy can replace several players and open up roster spots for positions where help is needed.

IMO, it's a trade that makes sense.

I agree about drafting a developmental QB. I say OT might be the most important because our young tackles have failed miserably to develope and right now we have NO good backups. Holland has shown that he is a good backup. I would draft a G/C guy and groom him to be the primary backup for Gurode.
