Who has played better than Tony at the end of the season (when it really counts)? Other than Rivers & maybe Manning the others have stumbled their way through. This list was supposed to be who they had the most confidence in. I could care less about the list, all that matters is that the Cowboys win. The media is quick to jump on Tony & all his past "playoff" failings, but now that he's won a game and playing as well as or better than anyone, they don't want to give him any kudos. But like I said, I just want the Cowboys to win!
The playoffs are now ongoing, so the talking heads will start caring less and less about December. Playoff records are what will matter going forward. The fact is that these other players simply have more playoff skins on the wall than Romo, so they will get more benefit of the doubt regardless of what we on this board think.
Think about this stat pertaining to the players on this list. Since 2006, only Romo and Sanchez have not made it to the conference championship (and Sanchez is a rookie). Brees went in 2006, Manning in 2006 (Superbowl), Favre in 2007, Rivers in 2007, Warner in 2008 (Superbowl) and Flacco in 2008. It is a case of "Been there, done that" and Romo has never gone farther than this Divisional round.
I can almost guarantee you that if Flacco were healthy and playing like he was last year, then some of these talking heads would put him over Romo as well because they are still wondering about how good Romo can be. Do I agree with this line of thinking? Not really, but it is more comforting for these analysts to go with the players that have already proven they could move on from this round.
The good news is that it is fully in Romo's hands as to where the talking heads will "rank" him this offseason and next year.
For the record, I would have placed Romo over Favre and possibly Brees (especially given how Favre has exited the playoffs the last few times), but that is just me.
