Mike Ditka on Dallas-Philly, Roy Williams, and Miles Austin

Roy Williams >>>>>> Austin Miles.

This is a what have you done for me lately league and the question to you sir is what has Roy and Miles done lately?? Now if you were able to truthfully answer that question honestly its obvious Miles is the better WR right now till Roy can say otherwise

He continued then by singing the praises of Miles Austin saying “the difference is that this kid Austin is just better player; he's an all-around football player; he can run better, run with it better, catches better, is a better blocker…the other one just can’t even hold his jockstrap!” Roy Williams to him was a clear afterthough. I was stunned how emphatically he dismissed him and went on and on about Austin.

Hey, I’m just passing what Ditka himself said, and I heard it with my own ears. You guys can each decide if his words mean anything to you or not. But the quotes I’ve written above, and how the conversation went down, are both true and as close to accurate as I heard them.

Make of it what you will…

Well, Ditka has been a talking head now for several years. We all know a talking head has to keep his material fresh, and even controversial. I'd say he has met his objectives for this week. And if Williams has a dynamite weekend, Ditka has a whole new story to survive the next week with.

He only repeated what we already know.:laugh2:

Correction - he only said what the non-Roy sheep already know. Austin >>> RW and it isn't even close. No amount of effort by RW will allow him to equal a healthy Miles Austin's production.

Ditka has been known to be wrong. But right now it's above a no-brainer Austin is playing better. It's not even close. The only reason to keep playing Roy is in the hope it will start clicking before long. Otherwise he'd be benched. Too soon to give up.

This is mostly correct.

I agree that we should continue to let RW/Romo work on the connection for the rest of the season so long as Roy keeps his yap shut with the media.

Mike Ditka says Roy can't hold Miles Austin's jock, lol.

Ditka on Cowboys

You just have to laugh at this one. I love Ditka, but it's only been a few games here where Miles Austin has looked like he's on his way to being a great player. I think he's going to be very good but it's going a little overboard in his statements.

Then he paused and said “I won’t say tit!”.

He didn't want to say "tit?"

It's a cool word.

Tit
Tit
Tit

I agree with Mike, RW can't hold Austin's jockstrap....he would probably drop it anyhow.

Sorry couldn't resist.
It depends, is the jockstrap handed to him correctly? If he's stretching and falling and doing everything then he wouldn't be able to hold it.......

Are you from earth? PROVE it. You gonna wait 'til Roy has that 1 good game and then say "I told you so"? Of course you are because there's NO other reason to post that crap.

I'm all for Roy Williams but right now , that statement is beyond ridiculous.

Actuall, Roy Williams IS more like the Bobby Carpenter of WRs because he is best suited to play the #2 or #3 WR spot. Even his old coach Mike Martz was on NFL network and said that the Cowboys need to realize that his best plays are either straight runs, or one-cut routes. He basically said that he's not the guy that will run your hitches, curls or post-corner/corner post routes.

Basically Martz was saying that if Dallas just ran him on the kinds of limited routes that he runs best then he can be successful. Well that's like Carprenter; he's a good/succesful LB, provided you play him on coverage plays where he can play to his strengths. At the end of te day, these are purely situational players, and first round picks spend drafting situational players are wasted picks because first round picks should only be spent on complete-players. Both Carpenter and Williams are not complete.

Maybe Roy's decline in production is due to the fact CBs know they only have to sit on a couple of routes because all the others will not be run well.

We should probably just demote him and give up the fight here. He is just a limited player in serious freefall. Our attempts to resurrect his career by forcing the ball in his direction is limiting the rest of the offense which would probably be on fire right now with the emergence of Austin and the soon full-time return of Felix Jones.

We obviously can win quite easily with next to no contribution from him.

What I love about this whole debate -- even here on this very board -- is there is this undertone as if we're somehow big losers in this "Austin is better than Williams!" argument. It's as if Austin is an Eagle and we missed out on him and we're now suffering the consequences.

Hey, they're both Cowboys so I could care less who's better. All I care is that we get production out of the position, and we are. Yeah, yeah. Roy represents wasted draft picks and money -- well, Austin represents an undrafted player making chump's change right now. Things have a way of balancing out.

Maybe I'm in the minority though.

Eskimo, I don't disagree that Roy has been only slightly better to this point than a sack of doo doo. The sack of doo doo might stink less.

With that said, I'm not in favor of just getting rid of/benching Roy. As you said, we're obviously effective with no contribution from him, so I think we can stand to wait a little longer before giving up on him. Now, if we're having this SAME conversation in the middle of December, I think my tone will be different. We can't (fingers crossed) go into the playoffs wincing every time Romo throws to Roy.

But right now, all we have is time IMO. It's not a detriment yet. And Roy and Romo are obviously trying to work things out, so I'm willing to wait a bit. If it becomes a major detriment, then it's time to address doing something with Roy.

It's not as if he's an untalented player. He does have skills, even if they're overrated. I'm curious to see what he can do if he and Romo get on the same page.

WRONG!

I listened to the comments live today. it was not like that at all. In my original post I said that Ditka was holding back his comments. he genuinely was. He had nothing in his mind good to say abuot Williams and kept saying to the hosts "No, no, I won't say it" about what he really though. They pressed and pressed him to the point where he gave them some of his mind. When he made the "he can't hold Austin's jockstrap comment" he was actually still holding back what he REALLY thuoght. It was plainly obvious by how uncomfortably he said it. And when the hosts pressed him after that comment even more, he just turned to praising Austin, so to not bash Williams more than he had (which was more than he wanted to do publically). There was NO attempt for shock value. NONE! Ditka really was putting it out there like he genuinely sees it.

Well here's how I look at it. Just before Williams opened his big mouth on Wednesday, days earlier T.O. was calling him out. All Williams had to do was SHUT-UP, which would have rendered T.O.s comments irrelevant. Instead, Williams goes vocal about justifying why he's sucking it up in Dallas as bad as T.O. is in buffalo, and implicats that it's Romo's fault by doing it in the process.

Then today/Thursday, there's Williams back in the media trying to backtrack his comments, and even Romo had to step in to smotth things out so that this distraction as we are leading up to the bigeest game of the season - because it's for first place - can hopefully go away.

Oh my, did I say DISTRACTION? Thst's exactly what we don't need, but thanks to Williams we got. And that's what we got because he's got T.O. in his head. So as much as we're trying to get rid of T.O., thanks to William's insecurities and stupidity we can't. If I were Wade, I'd bench the mofo in this Philly game, not for his lack of production, but for the detriment to team chemistry that his self-created DISTRACTION has caused.

Plus Romo and RW are playing catch together after work. Look out for RW this week.

I've heard someone say that every week.....

I just hope Romo doesn't try to force it to him causing interceptions......this is the wrong defense to start doing that on

Just because Roy may run some routes better than others, doesn't make him a situational player. He's still out there starting and he's in on most plays. It's not an apt comparison at all.
