Hey everyone, I live in Chicago and was listening to the “Mike Ditka Show” on ESPN-Chicago radio an hour or so ago, and the show hosts (Tom Waddle and Mark Silverman) and Mike Ditka began talking about the NFC East.

Ditka was not at all sold on the Giants, saying “They didn’t just lose 3 in a row; they got BEAT 3 in a row!” and Ditka strongly emphasized the word “beat”.

Then he talked about Cowboys-Eagles and said both teams are playing very good football right now, but that in Sunday’s game he has to give the Edge to the Eagles because they’re at home. But he said talked about how the emergence of Austin was “for-real” and good for Dallas. I thought that was a pretty fair opinion all the way around.

The show’s hosts also asked Ditka what he thought about Roy Williams, to which he began to say “Williams…well,….”. Then he paused and said “I won’t say tit!”. The hosts pressed him and he again said “No, no, I won’t say it”. The hosts then pressed even more and said “come on, just say it”, to which Ditka replied “Williams can’t hold his jockstrap [meaning Austin’s]”.

He continued then by singing the praises of Miles Austin saying “the difference is that this kid Austin is just better player; he's an all-around football player; he can run better, run with it better, catches better, is a better blocker…the other one just can’t even hold his jockstrap!” Roy Williams to him was a clear afterthough. I was stunned how emphatically he dismissed him and went on and on about Austin.

Hey, I’m just passing what Ditka himself said, and I heard it with my own ears. You guys can each decide if his words mean anything to you or not. But the quotes I’ve written above, and how the conversation went down, are both true and as close to accurate as I heard them.

Make of it what you will…

If he ever coaches again we can trade Austin for his entire draft.

Right now Ditka is right, Austin is playing much better football than RW. I hope Austin stays healthy and continues to play the type of football he is right now and I hope RW gets it going and shows what he is very capable of doing himself. RW will not get much love until he does, one thing to look for and all the talking heads do it one day they are ragging on you next day saying how great you are. Bradshaw does it almost weekly.

keep in mind this is a guy that traded an ENTIRE draft for one player...and that player was a RB....not a QB...a RB! Sure their are busts in the NFL all the time...but let's not forget that Roy was the #7 overall pick...let's not act like Roy is the Bobby Carpenter of WRs....he can play. Did we pay too much? Absolutley, but people suggesting we should bench ROy for Crayton really do not understand football.

Plus Romo and RW are playing catch together after work. Look out for RW this week.

The only thing mike d does well now is chew gum. Great player. Lucky coach. Horrible analyst. Now at this time Roy sucks. And miles has had a great stretch. However the problems that Roy is experiencing are not of his doing alone. Romo has a lot of blame as well. Roy needs to run better routes and romo needs to understand what Roy does well. That slant for a ts was a dine example of that.

Ditka has been known to be wrong. But right now it's above a no-brainer Austin is playing better. It's not even close. The only reason to keep playing Roy is in the hope it will start clicking before long. Otherwise he'd be benched. Too soon to give up.

I have to take exception to Ditka's comments.

Austin is not the better blocker!!!

Um.....everything else is pretty much right on though.

I agree with Mike, RW can't hold Austin's jockstrap....he would probably drop it anyhow.

Sorry couldn't resist.

Also keep in mind that the man actually played the game, and until the new breed of TEs starting making their way on the scene Ditka was known as one of the baddest of the bad *****. But, hell, don't let that stand in the way of your RW love and internet General Manager skills.

Roy Williams >>>>>> Austin Miles.

Yes, that's been painfully obvious for literally months now. Williams might be a more gifted athlete, but Austin is the better wide receiver and it's not even close, thus far. But, hey, someone's gotta keep the RW teabag club up and running.

Actuall, Roy Williams IS more like the Bobby Carpenter of WRs because he is best suited to play the #2 or #3 WR spot. Even his old coach Mike Martz was on NFL network and said that the Cowboys need to realize that his best plays are either straight runs, or one-cut routes. He basically said that he's not the guy that will run your hitches, curls or post-corner/corner post routes.

Basically Martz was saying that if Dallas just ran him on the kinds of limited routes that he runs best then he can be successful. Well that's like Carprenter; he's a good/succesful LB, provided you play him on coverage plays where he can play to his strengths. At the end of te day, these are purely situational players, and first round picks spend drafting situational players are wasted picks because first round picks should only be spent on complete-players. Both Carpenter and Williams are not complete.
