Sorry....but it unfortunately, it looks to be coming...I do NOT get it....especially when we are talking about drafting a QB, and letting Junior walk a last ditch effort to see if Dak is salvageable. This is really catching me off guard here!! If we don't extend, we can dump him after next year...so why extend??? Wouldn't we obviously be committed to him for even longer....what am I missing here???
In order to understand beyond the immediate Cap implications you have to look inside our dysfunctional owners agendas to fully understand why he’d want to extend Prescott.

It’s not about what we think is best .

Dak and his agent has already played this game w/ Jerry.

I think the best thing to do with Dak is keep him until you find someone better. Start drafting/signing QB prospects already.
Of course , but what if you are wanting to lower his Cap impact in order to bring in more talent and supporting cast?

And we must take into account our dysfunctional ownership is still All In on Prescott. I’m not sure all fans truly appreciate or grasp this.

Interesting if you ever believed he wouldn’t get extended again.

They really only have two options. Bite the bullet this year, but have little to no flexibility to improve the rest of your roster or extend Dak now to ease the cap hit.

This is the problem of a four year deal where you've already pushed so much money to the end. Don't care which side of the Dak debate anyone is on, that contract Jerry gave him was a major L.
Seems I remember they actually wanted Dak to sign a 7 year contract but he would only commit to 4 years.

The Dak contract was always going to be restructured/extended this summer. Dak and the organization knew this when signing the contract. Fans knew it too. Now some want to pretend this is a surprise. It has to be done….period.

I know there are actually people praying against Prescott, but who didn't think they would adjust the cap?
The knee jerk around here.....

I would not be surprised if it happened this offseason. Ten more years for Dak.

Which would have been great for the Cowboys as it becomes extremely easy to move money around that way, and the Cowboys would have eventually gotten ahead of the market price at 7 years/$40MM per. Now an extension just resets things for Dak at probably $50MM per.

I still don't get how Jerry lost on all sides of this deal after Dak had the catastrophic injury in 2020. The narrative was Dak was betting on himself, but it actually seemed like he had nothing to lose because Jerry/Stephen were going to pay him either way.

To lower the Cap impact of his final two years of current contract.
But aren't you adding more years that you would have to pay him for??? How is that being cap friendly, if you can't get rid of him after next year???

Of course . But it’s more about the immediate impact on the Cap. Especially if you have plans to keep him anyway. Which I’m sure Jethro and Son are intent on.

I don't see any logical way to move on from Dak without essentially blowing the team up and starting from scratch. I am hoping Dak has a come to Jesus moment upon reflection of his 2022 performance and offers to be extended on a Brady-like deal in an effort to provide the Cowboys some roster flexibility. Just keeping Dak for the remaining two years will be a huge cap hit and they will still owe him $21M of dead cap money in 2025. Extending him at his current rate would not be advisable.

Got to hand it to Stephen. He's a real cap genius.

Am I the only idiot here that thought an extension was the last thing we would be considering? I honestly thought we were ALL in lockstep that 2023 was a do or die year for him....so why an extension? Why worry about softening the cap hit if next year may be the last year? And while we are at it, Diggs, Zeke, and Pollard need to go...sing a FA CB, trade for Tee Higgens....draft a RB.

You’re obviously not in tune with our dysfunctional ownership. They are the idiots. Lol

Obviously they are intent on retaining our QB much longer.

What’s really mind blowing we have so many fans that see the Dak era as a failure. In our owners mind it’s been quite a success.

And you’re right, why would he blow up a playoff caliber team? Some fans just don’t get our owner.

Have I been under a rock, or could this be true....listen at 5:38....in the words of Nancy Kerrigan, "why....whhhhyyy"??? Why in the hell would be the logic in doing this prior to seeing what he does this and possibly next season??? If this does happen prior to the season, I will officially be done with this rotten fish heads of an organization!!!

How many times have you been 'officially done'? Have some balls and be done already.
