It all depends on what he does next year. His contract numbers will be more palatable in 2026 for a trade as QB salaries continues to rise. If he puts up 2023 numbers, there is no problem trading him. Matt Stafford used to be Dak. He put up lots of big numbers but couldn't win big games. A ring changes a lot of perceptions.

Lots of QBs get better with a change of scenery. So, there is no reason to think teams won't be interested. We have 3 great examples in the NFC aside from Stafford of QBs who improved when put in the right situation: Darnold, Mayfield, and Geno Smith.
Matt Stafford was never Dak. I don't know why people say this. It's as silly as saying Dan Marino used to be Dak...because HE never won a SB too.

Stafford had ELUTE tools.... one of the best arms if his DECADE, not just his draft. Dak had an average-at-BEST arm, even in his one puny little draft. Stafford prob could have been a major league pitcher. Dak would have an average arm the CFL.

Stafford used to be Dak. HA HA HA!

Dak will be the starter here for the next 2 years....at a minimum.

My only question is what the rest of the roster will look like.

Any further debate on Dak is an exercise in futility
2 years. That's all. Your correct. On all counts. This notion that we are pigeon hold into a corner because of Daks deal is what's really ridiculous. If Jerry and Stephen REALLY had the stomach for getting out of it, or just cutting bait , they could in 2 years. Or if Dak organically just retires or can't play anymore due to injury. It happens all the time. I'm not concerned as much about the Dak contract as I am about Jerry and Stephen further killing this franchise. We can maneuver anytime we want and sign who we want. That's a fact. With or without Dak. Even Todd Archer on Bryan Broaddus' podcast with Jeff Cavanaugh, said this. Do the Jones Boys have the wherewithal? I highly doubt it . They appear to be positioning themselves for selling the team or putting shares of the team on the stock market. I say this because even for them, there behavior this year has been bizarre. Many fans think they might sell the team outright. Jerry seems disengaged, disinterested in sinking money into improving the product on the field. We shall see.

yet this average arm QB, barely good for CFL was top 5 passing in the league in the past few years.

its hilarious to see the dak haters clamour over each other with more outrageous comments to see who can out do the other.
its like watching rats fight over remaining food and they start to attack each other.

Dak Prescott is a good QB. Certainly not the best in the league. Not elite. But good to this point. Except for the elite guys (and there are not many of them) all QBs comes with issues. Daks include his age, his accuracy at times, his ability to read the defense at times, his record in playoff games, his two serious injuries and his ability to instill confidence in others. I think a good GM would be reluctant to pony up a lot of draft picks and swallow a $40 plus million salary for him. I would be shocked if the Cowboys got multiple high round picks in a trade for him at this stage of his career.

But Cleveland emptied the bank for Watson even with his baggage. And SF did the same for Trey Lance who offered nothing but potential. It could happen but if I were a GM I would not do it.

Marino got to a super bowl early in his career. Stafford, with all his talent, never won a playoff game until he went to LA. Thats the analogy. Its not any more absurd than your ridiculous assertion that we would have to throw in first round picks to trade Dak.

Or draft a Qb and let Dak sit behind him
Well, It depends on the situation. You don't want to throw a young QB in where you don't have a rb or a stable OL...... like Carolina did with Bryce Young and Chicago is doing with Caleb Williams.

The most likely scenario is retirement. New fiance, kid, couple that with all the injuries. Writing is on the wall. I see no world by which he's a cowboy in 2 years. All this concern over this contract is a waste. Relax guys. He's more than likely retiring in a couple years. His body has been thru too much. So basically if we want to draft a stud QB we can. Nothing is hindering us from doing so. Except maybe Jerry and Stephen. Those 2 behave as if they are preparing to sell the team. It's weird.
Hes too greedy

Use your EYES when trying to compare QBs abilities. And if it STILL doesn't make sense, here's the true barometer: just watch. Nobody will trade for Dak. Somebody DID trade for Stafford. Why? Because people with football minds looked at Stafford at thought "hmmmmm, I bet we can win a SB with his talent" .. and they were RIGHT. Those same football minds will look at Dak and internally say "no thanks", and the proof will be obvious to you when nobody trades for him.

It's not that hard when you try and think about it. I'll teach you if you want....but only if ur a willing student!

Use ur eyes. Not stats...

We all know Dak has learned the system to rack up junk yardage against prevent defenses.

Do your EYES tell you he's a top 5 QB?

If so, you may be Jerry Jones.

You’re making this up. NFL teams may not offer shares to be sold publicly. There are a select group of private equity firms, already vetted by the league, that are allowed to buy as much as 10% (no more) of an individual franchise. Jerry Jones is not allowed to sell “shares of the team on the stock market”. There is no indication Jerry Jones has any intention of selling the Dallas Cowboys. None. Saying otherwise is typical Cowboys fan nonsense.

If Dak hit the trade market even with that contract a team will take him….

People underestimate the fact that teams will take a Proven QB and yes Dak has proven he can be top 5 multiple times

I'm all for the trade or retire. BUT no one's gonna trade for that contract and Sleepnumber ain't giving all that money up by retiring.

The near 90 million dollar cap hit next year all but guarantees they won't cut him.

I'm not sure how the contract looks after we pay guaranteed money. It has to lessen the cost per year right? Sorry if covered in the video. I have not had a chance to watch it yet.

To trade Dak the Cowboys would have to find that team that wants him and can afford him in their current salary structure. And Dak would have to agree to it. The team he agrees to be traded to would know Jerry is limited to where he can trade him to, and would take full advantage. The Cowboys would likely have to trade him for a third round pick, but send the team taking him their 4th and a 5th. Otherwise they can simply keep him and build a competitive team around him.

A blind man can see the situation the Cowboys have created. No team is going to throw them a life line. The team that takes Dak on would probably want the right to close those curtains if they find themselves in a day game at AT&T. Jerry has painted himself into a corner.
