We'd have to take on 30-60% of his contract.
exactly what I've been saying, hell look what denver did with russel, they're eating so much money from him. With that you've seen other teams recently take on the money to help the trade go through

Let's break this down in simpler terms. Prescott stated his reasoning for the dollar amount he was demanding and received from Jerry Jones had NOTHING to do with building a competitive team for the future. Once Prescott laid out his cards Jerry Jonest should have walked away from the table and should have never signed Prescott to a contract that is now going to cripple this organization for many, many, many years! Prescott stated that he wanted to drive up the salaries of today and future NFL QBs, in his statement he never once mentioned that he wanted to be a team guy and receive less to help build a competitive team that could possibly be good enough to get deep into the playoffs or even win a SB or two.
Wasn't going to walk away because he wanted to have a proven QB here, didn't want to start over and go through the pains of a young QB

The solution to this situation is to bring in a Dak replacement on the cheap. Draft Dak’s replacement. Play the replacement QB.

Instead of Dak and Cooper Rush you get a cheap rookie and Dak. You play the rookie. Dak rides the pine as the most expensive backup in league history.

The wheels keep turning. And you move forward. That’s how you fix this dumpster fire.
Almost every single conceivable scenario is painful. The most desirable is the least likely; Dak gets healthy and rediscovers how to play well.
An amenable trade is 2nd least likely.

The most logical, realistic avenue to escape with some future intact is yours...and I thought so in the off season. Find a way to to sit him, and "QB of the future" has the right optics.

No! What a capital N..........fans have to understand that how they feel about Dak is the total opposite of how Jerry feels. Like it or not, Jerry trusts Dak as the starting quarterback for the next 3-4 years 100%. As mentioned earlier, they structured Dak's contract the same as his previous one, which is to restructure several times.
For me........I would use the next two years to build the strongest defense and OLine possible and year 3 draft his replacement.
I'm not so sure about that these days.

Nobody will trade for Dak. He’s an average QB who had his “MVP runner up” year against the worst pass defenses in the league, and he’s been part of teams that have been beating up on even more horribly managed and less talented teams in the division for years and playing on teams with some of the best TO differentials on defense.

In other words, this team will only go as far as Dak will take them as Jerry Jones said (one of the truthful things he said), and he’s not going to take them or any other team anywhere. He’s a choker in the playoffs and against good teams because he’s mentally weak and doesn’t have the arm talent to compete with them.

Quite. He didn't even want or need the new contract. He was reluctantly pursuing it for the brotherhood.

Some people think we will see the return of Dak that was "runner up" to MVP last season. I think Dak is -- as far as being a talent -- done for. We've seen his current ceiling before the injury, and I don't think it is because he doesn't have a running game and Offensive Line. I think he is just old and worn now -- the new reality -- he is slow and this hamstring tear will add to his slowness. It's not like he didn't have no time at all in the backfield when he was taking those sacks earlier in the season. This is the dak that will be coming back after he heals from his season ending injury.

Trading Dak is not realistic - the hit in terms of having to give up draft picks in conjunction with swallowing cap is too high. We need our 1st round picks to get a new QB.

The best option is a June 1st 2025 cut. Any other option COSTS US EVEN MORE MONEY. No.point in paying any more than we have to. The salary savings are not insignificant. Throwing more money at Dak via salary or restructuring is akin to a gambler chasing loses.

It is also better to take the hit in 2025 and 2026 when we're rebuilding and have a rookie contract starting QB. Pushing the cap hit further down the road will hit the team when it needs the cap money to contend.

Well, there is a huge difference between a proven loser and a proven winner AND make no mistake Prescott is not on the ladder of success...........

My question is simply this: Are the powers that be inside the Star thinking about options to move on from Dak? Maybe not in 2025 but soon there after?

Fisher can sometimes be a mirror into what the Joneses are thinking. Not always but sometimes. They use Fisher to float ideas from time to time.

But this could be Fisher just addressing the swarm of fans interested in replacing Dak.

You never know with Fisher.
Fisher is a hack who has long since outlived his expiration date.

I don’t see how Dak can be cut in the first year or two of his deal due to the cap hit. And a trade has a similar acceleration of cap hit.

It’s time that the Cowboys started looking for a new QB. The draft or rehabbing a guy who was previously drafted that flamed out will be the likely option simply because they have to come cheap.

Jerry stupidly resigned Dak at a record setting deal. Most people were ready to see Dak go before he was re-signed. The noise to move on from Dak only gets louder from here.

It is ironic that the Cowboys probably paid Dak to eliminate the possibility of the fan base revolting over letting a franchise QB get away and yet the move to sign Dak will ironically put more pressure on the Cowboys than they have had since the Chan Gailey years.
