Mike Jenkins lateral to Terence Newman

I've got mixed feelings about that,,, it's nice that they are thinking "big play" but they should be mindful of the game situation and act appropriately. If your offense can't score and you're behind then by all means lateral the ball, otherwise quit showing off and taking unnecessary chances. No doubt this is going to be a "lesson learned" topic for the coaches this week, so maybe it was a good thing that it happened.

No doubt his intent was to turn the play into a bigger play. I think you are right though it will be a lesson learned and one I don't think we will see from Jenkins again

We're still talking about this? When did this take on "Jackie Smith" proportions?

It was a dumb play. I imagine they were amped up and just wanted to blow the game open. I'm sure he heard about it, and it won't happen again. Lesson learned, not a big deal.

Maybe so but it is always better to protect the ball than to be careless with it. I would be more understanding had we been losing by a large margin and was trying to make something happen much like a kick return where guys start tossing the ball all over the place. However this was not the case and even Rat made sure to let Jenkins know you screwed up I have no doubt that Wade and Campo told him the same thing.

I'm not saying it's justified because we had sealed the game. I'm just saying, when I saw it I thought "Wow, he really just tried to go NFL street on them." I have no fear at all that he would try it in a game that hadn't already been decided.

I agree. I think Jenkins will learn from this. He seems to be a pretty smart guy.

I was upset that he did it and of course I know why he did it but it is just not a good thing to do. I think he made a mistake it did not cost us much and if he learned from it which I'm sure he has then no big deal and move on. The guy has been playing great for us so I'm not going to rag on him because of this

I can't believe people are ripping Newman for asking for the ball. It's up to the player with the ball to know whether it's safe to do that or not, and right then it wasn't.

Just shows how polar people are. Right now Jenkins is bulletproof and Newman is a JAG, so we're going to blame Newman.

I blame Newman, not because Jenkins is hot and he's not (Newman has been ballin' and has been more physical in the last half of the season than I've ever seen him).

I blame Newman because he's the veteran who should know better...he's the veteran who should tell a young guy to go down and protect the ball.

It's a learning experience. When the opportunity arises again, Jenkins will get the ball to another player cleanly. That's what playmakers do.

I'd rather have him just secure the ball and go to the ground. Then let the Offense do it's job.

Bad move, but as someone else said if it was closer i doubt they do it. I think they were just wanting to stick another 7 on the Eagles; which i did as well. :)

If he (or any other Cowboys player) were to find himself in the exact same situation, I would agree. However, there are times when you can cleanly lateral the ball for positive results. The important thing is knowing when is the proper time to try pulling it off.

It was a dumb move. There was not a pressing need to do that and had he not, we could have at worst run off a few more minutes...maybe scored again since the offense was running pretty good. He shouldn't try to be Ed "Mr. Lateral" Reed.

I thought it was a swell idea. Really great. Just like I was telling my pal, Napoleon, once. Nap, I said, how's about invading Russia in winter. Or like I mentioned to my buddy, General Custer: what say you split your column and go after them Indians. Bet there aren't but a couple dozen out there.

In other words, I hope Wade had a little to say about playing smart and keeping focus. Those 2 personal fouls on Hamlin didn't help my blood pressure either.
 Remind me never to take advice from you.

It was a dumb move. Playmakers learn from their mistakes. Jenkins is a playmaker. It would be equally dumb of Jenkins to not take advantage of a similar situation in the future if he can quickly evaluate whether it would be safe enough to lateral the ball.

Football play doesn't exist in a vacuum and opportunities happen during the course of a game. If a player can make a smart decision with the ball, he should take it.

If Newman wants to run a pick back he should get his own :laugh2:

It hasn't. We won't be talking about this play in 30 years. At times we are still talking about the Jackie Smith play. That was just a messed up sequence. First they had to burn a time out because Staubach was confused by the play call. They previously only used that play in short yardage goal line situations, but Landry called it from out further than the goal line. Then Staubach made a less than good pass and of course Smith botched it.

I thought it was a stupid idea. Just catch the ball and go down. The Cowboys' offense was moving the ball at will against the Eagles' overrated defense anyway. Granted, the Eagles did not score, but you never want to give any team an extra possession.

The reason Ravens do this all the time is because according to Deion the Ravens practice it everyday. I'm not sure if the Cowboys practice this but I doubt they practice it everyday like the Ravens.

It was a dumb young player move.

Jenkins just has to eat it and move on. Newman didnt help matters. As a vet he should of been yelling at Jenkins to hit the turf.

Hopefully they learn from this. Hate to see a bonehead move like this if the game was close.
