Former Rams greats Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce were among the best receivers in the NFL during their heyday with the "Greatest Show on Turf," and according to their former coach, the duo should be first in line for consideration for the Hall of Fame. Not finalist Terrell Owens.

Mike Martz told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch he didn't understand why Holt and Bruce were an afterthought, while Owens is a finalist in his first year of eligibility.

"Surprised' isn't the word," Martz told the newspaper. "You can't print how I felt when T.O. leapfrogged those two. That's just plain out-and-out ridiculous."

Owens and former Colts star Marvin Harrison are two receivers on the final ballot for the Hall of Fame. Martz also took issue with Harrison being a finalist over Holt and Bruce.

“Had [Holt and Bruce] promoted themselves, which was contrary to everything we were about, they’d probably get in without an issue,” Martz said. “Had they pulled a T.O., they’re probably get in without an issue."

Is dez in the top 100 yet with his 5,225 yrds. Im thinking that if he plays till 32 ( 5 more years) he should have around 10,000-11,000 yrds

Brett Favre is also getting considered - they will consider how he influenced his teammates to win. His impact was also in the locker room.

So they should consider how TO influenced his teammates when he didn't get his way, like his last season in Philadelphia.

I don't think Michael Irvin deserved a wait to get into the HoF, but TO does for obvious reasons - he hurt teams at times - Irvin never did.

I don't think Irvin deserved to wait and neither does TO. The fact he was so successful on so many different teams shows how good the guy is. Second all time statistically says a lot considering how many great players played that division. I personally don't think the hall of fame should consider the character of a person, they should only be judged on what kind of football player they were...and you can make a strong argument that TO is better than any receiver ever to take the field not named Jerry Rice.

As far as Martz argument, it is bogus. TO is not being considered for HOF above Bruce/Holt because he marketed himself better. He is being considered for his production. If anything, the way he promoted himself may hurt his chances.

^ I'm using the same standard they use all the time on QBs - how does the player influence his teammates. Unfortunately, TO occasionally was a negative influence. If that can't be allowed, then it can't be used on QBs either.

I think QBs are the only players that you can hold to that standard since they are the leader by default...it is their job to make other players better.

If anything, TO made QB's better by demanding the ball. Some of them didn't like it but his presence inflated stats for the players throwing him the ball.

^ QBs are not the only leaders or cancers on a team. If they can use influence for QBs, they can use it for any other position, be it positive or negative.

Besides, it would send a good message if TO had to wait.

He was a "cancer" that produced a lot on the field and was a part of quite a few very good teams, including one that went to the Superbowl (which he nearly brought a victory if the QB wasn't so awful), and helped at least one other have home field advantage. He also set a great example with his work ethic. Not everybody liked him because he spoke his mind, but the main ones (Garcia, McNabb, Garrett?) aren't exactly guys whose opinions I respect. Many of his teammates think quite highly of him.

Oh please, that's the dumbest thing I've read on here today, and that's saying something

Really?

What's dummer is Jerry signed TO over Big Bill's objections. Yes, reports have it that Bill was sick of dealing with TO and other things...."Two years from now, it will be like I was never here." Then Jerry signed an extension, but let him go...at least he listened to his son, but should not have signed the extension.

Im all for TO in the HOF. It should help the value of my autographed TO helmet and hopefully will provide a good window of opportunity to sell it.

The reality is tho, he deserves it more than those other guys Martz is whining about.

The case can be made for all 3 to be in the HoF but Owens is the best and most deserving of that group.

Owens and McNabb were cheated out of Super Bowl win.

TO would have won super bowl mvp.

I'm glad pats cheated the Eagles out of it. Still they were cheated.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand like clockwork, someone hijacks a thread which has nothing to do with the Patriots into a discussion of the Patriots.

They just can't help themselves.

Actually it's a serious comment relevant to TOs career.
He went to philly.
They thought that he would be that weapon that put them over the top.
And he was.

The comment is here because it would change how ha career was.
