It was a lazy choice backed up by him with the "Saban factor", which is about as misconstrued as the Jerry Jones loves Arkansas players meme.

Mentioned this in another thread.

Scary thing is...I wonder if he would have us taking Randall at Safety instead if he was available...because in his mock Randall goes before our pick to the eagles.

True. And equally gross.

I want him gone to the Eagles as I would love to see him bail on tackles and be poor in pursuit when we play them.

That would be a very troubling first day if that's what the outcome was.

I do not even think Collins is that bad (or the next Barron as some are saying). I just do not see how he makes this team better.

I want a safety as badly as anyone, but his skillset is so similar to what we already have, I just do not understand how that would elevate this defense up a level.

Is he better than Church and Wilcox, absolutely. But we would still be in the same boat as we were, just a smidge better. Schematically, nothing would change.

That'd be tempting if both Shane Ray and Randy Gregory are sitting there at 27. I notice he has NE getting Gregory at 32.

I think Collins will be a very good player...for some other team. That could be a trade down scenario.

Once again, Baltimore would get great value at late in the draft with Marcus Peters.

I think Collins is an average player who got built up on the basis of playing for Alabama. It's the complete non-existence of any safety talent in this draft that has elevated him.

I do not see it that way. I just think he is a touch overrated, what I call the Alabama safety effect. Already seen it with Barron in the past and now he is basically reduced to playing linebacker after the Buccaneers gave up quickly.

Plus, I admit, and this is childish, but Crimson Tide safeties worry me. I had a PTSD flashback to Tony Dixon just now.

Hmmm, McShay had Collins going at 29 to the Colts (He has Dallas taking Shane Ray for the record). Maybe these guys have some basis for Collins sneaking into the first round.

How can you sneak into the first when you never really left it? Collins has been consistently regarded as a first round choice since the season ended.

Collins has always been in the 1st round for the majority of media draft analysts.

Ah, crap, I meant Randall! My brain needs a kick start today.

Aah. I don't understand the ranking for Randall. I can see him as possibly developing into a really quality pass defending Safety, but he needs a lot of development. His tacking and angle in run defense need a lot of work.

I would prefer Eric Rowe. I think he can be a quality FS or CB. I have him as the 5th best CB and the top FS.
