From 2010, when he won the Super Bowl with Green Bay, until now, here are where McCarthy's teams have ranked in total penalties.

1st = LEAST penalized
32nd = MOST penalized

Tell me if you notice anything fishy.

WITH GREEN BAY
2010: 3rd
2011: T-1st
2012: T-18th
2013: 8th
2014: 7th
2015: T-14th
2016: T-9th
2017: 8th
2018: T-14th

WITH DALLAS
2020: 22nd
2021: 32nd
2022: T-24th
2023: 31st

Okay, so we all notice the difference, right?

This means one of two things.

1) McCarthy MAGICALLY FORGOT how to coach penalties. He's still a good enough coach, mind you, to get his team to the playoffs every year. But in the ONE area of the sport that the refs ultimately control, he totally lost his mojo!

2) The refs, many of whom we can only assume grew up as NFL fans, have a clear bias against the Dallas Cowboys JUST LIKE 90% OF NFL FANS DO.

Which of the 2 is more likely to you?

McCarthy has to make it a focus. Calls to the league office, meeting with the Refs before the games with very specific concerns, and then working the Refs in game (which is a skill).

I've lived it. It's doable. You are going to get a penalty yourself along the way, almost like NBA coaches getting a Tech or baseball managers getting tossed on purpose.

The Cowboys can't just sit back and hope it gets better on it's own.

He was REALLY good at this "skill", as you put it, when he was the Packers coach!

Then he magically lost his touch the second he became the Cowboys coach.

Hmm. What a crazy coincidence!

There could be a simple answer - culture. There could have been an atmosphere of accountability in Green Bay that doesn't exist in Dallas. Maybe MM wants to hammer the idiots who keep making the mistakes and Jerry won't let him.

Don't take this as a defense of MM, but there might be more to the story, something other than MM forgetting how to coach or referee bias..

As just said as I was typing...

Postgame show said not a single holding call against our passrushers the last four weeks in a row. And they're one of the best pass rushing units in the league.

There have been 16 against us all year. Then zero in a four-game stretch.

I've never blamed refs in my life, but this is absurd.

I heard it too. Something is off. I heard one call since the Chargers game.

Interesting theory, but I'm not buying it.

One of my best friends is a diehard Packers fan. Whenever he watches a Dallas game nowadays, he tells me how funny it is to see McCarthy get pissed at the refs because he almost NEVER acted like that in Green Bay.

If it was the players who McCarthy was pissed at, we'd know it. When you see McCarthy yelling at the refs after a bogus/ticky-tack call, we know who he's pissed at, and it ain't the players.
