Mike McCarthy and the myth that he "can't instill discipline"

I'd imagine we're high in all types of penalties, not just offsides.

As for the subjective calls, the old saying is "they could call holding on every snap if they wanted to."

Well, we have the best pass rusher in the league, and we haven't had a single hold called in our favor in 4 weeks.

Totally a coincidence, I'm sure.

Hope you don’t mind but I am using this for my profile pic for awhile. This is getting ridiculous. Unfortunately, I think the refs are going to blow a tight game in the playoffs this year and cost someone big.

Maybe but when you dig deeper into the penalties you see it’s not all subjective type penalties like holding, etc.

For example, guess who leads the league in offsides penalties called against? You guessed it. Dallas.
We had issues with that before MM . We were #1 also in 2019.

From 2010, when he won the Super Bowl with Green Bay, until now, here are where McCarthy's teams have ranked in total penalties.

1st = LEAST penalized
32nd = MOST penalized

Tell me if you notice anything fishy.

WITH GREEN BAY
2010: 3rd
2011: T-1st
2012: T-18th
2013: 8th
2014: 7th
2015: T-14th
2016: T-9th
2017: 8th
2018: T-14th

WITH DALLAS
2020: 22nd
2021: 32nd
2022: T-24th
2023: 31st

Okay, so we all notice the difference, right?

This means one of two things.

1) McCarthy MAGICALLY FORGOT how to coach penalties. He's still a good enough coach, mind you, to get his team to the playoffs every year. But in the ONE area of the sport that the refs ultimately control, he totally lost his mojo!

2) The refs, many of whom we can only assume grew up as NFL fans, have a clear bias against the Dallas Cowboys JUST LIKE 90% OF NFL FANS DO.

Which of the 2 is more likely to you?
:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:
It’s nice to see numbers. They provide context for discussion.

Definitely looks off.

This is the ranking for offensive holding penalties for Dallas since 2014 season. I find it odd that we led in offensive holding penalties 4 times last 10 seasons regardless of who the HC, OC, OL coaches were or the OL we had in that time period. We were also ranked in the top ten 8 out of 10 seasons.

2014 - #1,
2015 -#16
2016- #3
2017- #1
2018- #3
2019 -#10
2020- #31
2021 - #1
2022- #7
2023- #1

Why would our players stop doing dumb things? They know they don't really answer to any coach. It's Papa Jerry who runs the show, and he's good as long as you are competitive.

How about 3) we have stupid players that can’t be coached due to the unaccountable culture set from the FO?

it is the culture…players and coaches come and go; but there has only one constant during this 26-year period of mediocrity…Jerry Jones.
Instead of blaming the officiating for poor outcomes; players need to hold each other accountable.

The OP tried pulling this crap before and didn’t think anyone would notice he conveniently omitted 2006-2009 for McCarthy:

2006: 10th
2007: 28th
2008: 31st
2009: 32nd

LOL! This is hilarious on a few levels.

1) Which is it? The players are "stupid"? Or they "can't be coached" due to things beyond their control? It can't be both.

2) So the same players who are smart enough to execute at a high enough level to score over 30+ PPG and lead the league in takeaways... are all just magically stupid in regards to the ONE area of the game that the refs ultimately control? Totally believable!!!

Thanks for the laughs!

Mike the fraud got away with offensive holding his entire stay at GB
His final 2 seasons the league finally ruled the "hug" technique illegal and Mike's offense died and he was fired.
He's still a fraud who no one was hiring except Jerry who saw a new puppet.
If it wasn't for DQ Mike would be fired by now.

It's like 20 years plus of reality, most of which you probably never saw because of age or you just stared following this team.

More likely it’s you that stopped in time after the last Super Bowl teams. Jerry hasn’t done the type of meddling you’re referring to for years.

This team has been trapped in time after the last Super Bowl team.

There could be a simple answer - culture. There could have been an atmosphere of accountability in Green Bay that doesn't exist in Dallas. Maybe MM wants to hammer the idiots who keep making the mistakes and Jerry won't let him.

Don't take this as a defense of MM, but there might be more to the story, something other than MM forgetting how to coach or referee bias..
I believe that. No coach after Jimmy has fined or made them sit.

Culture is a lot more toxic in Dallas.
