Mike Pettine not sure if QB Johnny Manziel will start Monday night

Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine said Tuesday he is "not in position yet" to say whether Johnny Manziel will start Monday night against the Baltimore Ravens as planned after social media posts showed Manziel allegedly partying last weekend in Texas.

Pettine said he is gathering information but called the latest incident involving his quarterback "disappointing ... very."

"I want to sit down and discuss it before I knee jerk and kind of go off on a potential tangent with it," Pettine said, while also acknowledging: "It's a little easier to handle when it's just a one-time occurrence, but when behavior repeats, not just him but with anybody, it's certainly a cause for concern."

"You have a vision of what you want the team to look like, how you want them to handle themselves when they're out of the building. We talk a lot about it ... so when things like this happen -- and not just him, but just in general -- any team when you have incidents like that [where] a guy knows that he represents more than himself and has issues off the field, it is frustrating," Pettine said.

Pettine said he had spoken to Manziel on Monday night but was still in the process of finding out details. He said an update was likely on Wednesday.

Backup Josh McCown (ribs) has been cleared, Pettine said, and is "good to go" should he need to start.

Something tells me that that young man will sit the rest of the year (barring injury to the starter). The printed words of the coach don't come close to conveying his level of frustration as compared to hearing him actually speak the words. He sounded to me as if he was at his end with Manzell. I wonder where this leads in regards to his future with the Browns? (Just say NO, Jerry)

Manziel is an idiot, nothing new here. But I'm pretty sure the Browns GM is going to tell Pettine to start him for the rest of the season regardless of what Pettine wants. If for no other reason, they need to see what his trade value is, if any.

Manziel's days in Cleveland look to the numbered. If/when the Browns have new ownership after this season, the new regime is likely going to want to draft a new QB to build around anyways. As for Johnny boy, he has A LOT of growing up to do if he ever wants to be a QB in this league.

He certainly comes off as a spoiled brat with a great sense of self-entitlement. Just as a human being, I hope he gets his life together, but I'm sure not holding my breath in anticipation of that actually happening.

Scratching my head why this would even be thread-worthy.
Not Dallas Cowboys.
Not playing Dallas Cowboys.
Backup QBs in Cleveland....
Maybe the Texas A&M connection?

It's in the NFL Zone, so doesn't have to be Cowboys-related. It's just NFL news...that's all.

Just heard on SIRIUS radio that he has been demoted to third string and McCown will start. I thought he would be demoted to second string...I guess Pettin has had enough of the guy.

Oh, I know. You're right.
We have all kinds of threads about various topics.
This particular NFL news just seemed so far down the list of anything that's remotely important.... it's just seems so random...the Cleveland backup QB situation.
Except that there is ther A&M ties and the old interest in him being a Cowboy.
No bid deal though. Like you said, we can start thread on just about anything.

The part in bold is why I think it has some interest. There are some that would love to see Jerry pick him up, some way, some how, while others are scared to death that he will (I want no part of him, BTW). I think there's a good chance he is either cut or put on the trade block in the coming offseason. Imagine the circus around Valley Ranch if that comes to pass...even if there is no actual interest in him.

Yep, he's officially the 3rd string QB now.

On another note, this has to be the first time in NFL history that an NFL QB has lost his job during a bye week, no? Excluding injuries.
