On another note, this has to be the first time in NFL history that an NFL QB has lost his job during a bye week, no? Excluding injuries.

Same type of nonsense we heard about Tony when he went to Cabo before the playoffs.

Like it is impossible to work your butt off all day and let loose at night, especially on an off week.

He is just another permanent target like Hardy for the media to tee off on.

I don't think it is a similar situation. The difference is that Manziel has been to rehab while Romo has never had those types of issues.

Scratching my head why this would even be thread-worthy.
Not Dallas Cowboys.
Not playing Dallas Cowboys.
Backup QBs in Cleveland....
Maybe the Texas A&M connection?

There are all types of threads started in every single section of this forum. The thread-worthiness of this thread is no greater or lesser than any of the others. You didn't have to open it or post in it if you truly thought it was a useless topic.

Sports and partying have been linked forever. Manziel is being singled out for the doing the same things hundreds of other players do every week. It isn't fair but we don't care about fair anymore. As long as we make an example out of a guy or two we live with looking the other way for the rest of the league.

If this was just about media coverage I would agree with you. It isn't. The Browns obviously aren't pleased with Manziel's antics. I don't know why you just gloss over the fact that Manziel has been to rehab. Sure players party, but not all of them have been to rehab for addiction problems. That really changes the circumstances.

More than having been in rehab, it was reported (I heard this on SIRIUS radio, so I have no link) that Pettine sat him down for a talk before the bye and was assured by Manziel that he would lay low and stay out of the spotlight (I'm paraphrasing here, but not changing the intent of what was said). Although some see his actions as innocent, he did what he assured his coach he wouldn't do. He obviously has issues that he can't control.

And you'll have morons around here lining up to call for him to be signed in Dallas.

I always thought the Rehab was pushed by outside forces. Gronk does it every week and the media laps it up. They even party together sometimes. Why the double standard? Oh yeah, everyone loves the Pats and ESPN is based in New England.

First of all, he's like a leopard..he ain't gonna change his spots...he is what he is, and even if he were to get his act together, I don't see him as legit NFL starting QB. Secondly, the circus surrounding the Greg Hardy signing would look mild compared to a Manziel signing. No thanks.

So was Brett Favre (pain killers) and he petitioned the nfl to ok him to drink alcohol after he got out. Because they had a blanket policy for all drugs including alcohol in his situation. But they ok'd it.

The double standard of the media is bothersome, but really doesn't matter. What matters is that the Browns obviously don't trust Manziel. They think it is a problem. A big enough problem to demote him. They see things that aren't reported in the media. They see his practice habits and film study and how it is all affected by his partying. They didn't reach this decision based on a single weekend outing in Austin. They have the necessary information to make this move.

Favre was already a well established top level QB at that time. Big difference.
