I'm actually not surprised. I think Pettine is here more for Schottenheimer (and Jerry/Stephen) than Parker. His loyalties will be to Schotty. He might be one of Parker's mentors but he also worked with Schotty in NYJ and share ties to Mike McCarthy. Bringing him here gives them a guy they can trust to be their eyes and ears on defense.

They can say that Parker wanted him here too and I'm sure he did since he knows he needs all the help he can get. But in the grand scheme of things, this also works out because it gives them insurance if Parker continues to flop. I wouldn't be surprised if Schotty was the one who convinced Pettine to come out of retirement.

Told you all several days ago, Pettine is here to eventually replace BOTH CP and BS.....at least to audition for both jobs for now. If Jerry likes, Jerry gets. But Pettine will still be a puppet coach, his only other option would have been retirement. How will this all turn out I wonder?

Yeah, looking into Pettine's past as a defensive coordinator, the only time he has had great success at it was when Rex Ryan made him his defensive coordinator. So it was Ryan's defense and Pettine helped with the day to day of running it. On his own, his defenses have been about middle of the pack. That's a huge step up from what our defenses have been the past three years, but anyone expecting miracles is expecting too much.

So Dallas hires an assistant defensive coach with coordinator experience to mentor a first-time DC, both of whom were hired by Jerry; and now the assistant DC (for lack of a more descriptive term) will report to the HC instead of the DC he was hired to support? It makes no sense!

Imagine coming in and trying to fix this mess,Pettine has a lot to do, more than what can be done in the time he had.
