Signed by Cowboys Mike Pettine to join Cowboys staff

So what is everyone's thought on this? He seems to have an extensive resume and lots of experience. I can't imagine it will hurt, I mean we can't get much worse? Right?
One of the gripes from local media was they didnt have any experience in the room. There weren't any old heads to advise etc. I dunno, but it cant get any worse so why not?

Well, if he makes a significant difference expect hime to have a more I portent role next year Who knows, anything is possible,. Maybe Scotty's replacement.
Finally a real coach…

Coaches who served under Pettine and became a head coach

One of Pettine's players became an NCAA head coach

They needed this from the beginning.

It never made sense to me that Zimmer and Eberflus with all of their years of experience, couldnt field a competent defense, but the 34 year old passing game coordinator that never was a DC ever, could
Hey, its the Jones Boyz. Its what they do Throw out draft picks for aging players like they are "all in" to 'win now," but hire coaches in training.

If you're not familiar with Pettine, he's pretty much the Bill Walsh of defense.
Except in NFC Championship Games apparently, where his defense gave up 285 yards rushing to the 49ers in 2019 and he made a call criticized by even his head coach in 2020 for one-on-one coverage near the end of the first half that allowed a late TD.

He did take the Packers defense from bottom of the league (29th) to middle of the league (15th/17th) after he was hired in 2019, but it looks like his defenses have mostly been middling at best. He's a bit like Parker in that he got his acclaim while working under a top defensive coach (Rex Ryan), when the Jets had the No. 1 defense. On his own, he's been OK at best.

Excellent. I don't know if it will help, but at least they're trying.

According to AI results (never know what you're going to get), Pettine's specialty is exactly what we need (pressure)

Mike Pettine's specialty as a defensive coordinator centers on a 3-4 defensive system built around aggressive blitzing, press-man coverage, and foundational roots from the Rex Ryan/Baltimore Ravens defensive coaching tree
Yup.

It’s an excellent hire.

CP likely done.

Coaches aren't allowed to change their minds? At least something is being done about the pathetic defense we have. Plus didn't Shotty say he would look at everything after the loss?
This is all Jerry and Stephen.

Shotty doesn’t have GM duties.

They're not penalized that often. They've been called for 9 DPI/Illegal Contact/Holding which is pretty middle of the pack.
Defensive Penalty Count: The Cowboys' 17 defensive penalties put them in a tie for 3rd most in the NFL alongside the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans (trailing only the Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston/Chicago depending on exact source alignment, but strictly tied for 3rd most overall with 17 flags)

Hopefully, he'll be in the booth getting a view from on high and relay things he is seeing down to CP.
It’s gonna be MP running the show and CP watching.

Otherwise, what’s the point of hiring a coach like MP?
