Pettine is a great, great defensive coach. On board with this
And honestly, wouldn't make a bad HC.

I love this!! What's wrong with addressing/correcting a known problem mid-season? This is the equivalent of watching the first two quarters, and making critical adjustments at halftime that could result in a win. Winning teams make the necessary adjustments to win games. Even if it doesn't yield good results, and least they're trying, instead of just piling all the blame on Parker. As we get several of our defense/secondary players back, this could be a really good move for the team, and I like it.
He didn't say which room.I thought Schotty said the solution was in the room.
Yeah, I was surprised Zimmer did so bad…but all we had was Micah and by that point the secondary we had started to fall off. Quinn did better with those same secondary players though….im guessing scheme mad a difference. So how much of this is scheme and how much is players…..even though we brought in a bunch of new starters the past season. They needed this from the beginning.
It never made sense to me that Zimmer and Eberflus with all of their years of experience, couldnt field a competent defense, but the 34 year old passing game coordinator that never was a DC ever, could
And only 2 rounds ahead of projected. We got him! We drafted Drew Shelton!
[The room erupts in applause and Stephen falls to his knees in tears]
So we shouldn't get too excited yet?Excellent. I don't know if it will help, but at least they're trying.
According to AI results (never know what you're going to get), Pettine's specialty is exactly what we need (pressure)
Mike Pettine's specialty as a defensive coordinator centers on a 3-4 defensive system built around aggressive blitzing, press-man coverage, and foundational roots from the Rex Ryan/Baltimore Ravens defensive coaching tree
Yep, Jerry is the smartest GM in the NFL!All 31 other teams didn’t do their homework.
Don’t bet your house on thatThe good news is we have no where to go but up!
Any time I've seen the 3-4 scheme work it's with monster linebackers. We don't have that.I think it doesn't really matter lol.
I hate the scheme, personally, but there's so little talent on defense that it doesn't really matter what they run.
And maybe that's why he looked good? Players matter. He did spend time with Ray Lewis, that's something.
He coached Ray Lewis, that's not nothing.
and Mike is now in the room lolHe didn't say which room.
I like the sound of that, this is a welcome addition and very much needed. Sounds like a football mind indeed , we need this kind of experience in a defensive coach badly. If you're not familiar with Pettine, he's pretty much the Bill Walsh of defense.
I'd take Kurt Warner. Can Mike Martz join the team to help schotty?
And Micah was hurt and missed nearly a fourth of the season.Yeah, I was surprised Zimmer did so bad…but all we had was Micah and by that point the secondary we had started to fall off. Quinn did better with those same secondary players though….im guessing scheme mad a difference. So how much of this is scheme and how much is players…..even though we brought in a bunch of new starters the past season.
They definitely added talent, but it's not showing on the field.right, but they're playing below their weight. a lot of it is self inflicted. can't get worse.
They tried to hire him in the off season but he wanted to be retired. I’m sure the only reason he’s coming back is because of his relationship with Parker. He has no ties or loyalties to the Cowboys. At least CP admits he needs help with this hire.
Complaining about the Joneses is like complaining about the weather. As I said before we hired No-Schott, the curse of the Cowboys is its front office (the Joneses) as long as that doesn't change, we can't expect the fortunes of the team to change.
Correct. The defense can't get 'much' worse, since we're already ranked 31st. Since, there are only 32 teams, I'd say that's a sound statement, sir. Checks out.So what is everyone's thought on this? He seems to have an extensive resume and lots of experience. I can't imagine it will hurt, I mean we can't get much worse? Right?
I don't know. If your players have shown they can't regularly get pressure with what you are doing, then you have to try something different. Implementing blitzes isn't that hard since they aren't new to players. Making sure you have the right coverage call for the blitz you are using is where it can get complicated. But that's the exact opposite of the Fangio philosophy.
Not sure if you can really do a 180 like that after a whole offseason, training camp, and four games of telling the players, "This is what we do, this is what we believe in"... and then flip that completely.
I agree. They tried to hire him in the off season but he wanted to be retired. I’m sure the only reason he’s coming back is because of his relationship with Parker. He has no ties or loyalties to the Cowboys.
