Good, now we won't have to hear fans saying they hope Shanahan is the HC, Garrett is the OC and Wade is the DC. While that would be a great staff on paper, I can't see Wade being effective as a DC here because then he would have no respect from players.
The 2 guys that had to go, are Brian Stewart and Bruce Read and now they're gone. One has been replaced, we can only hope that his replacement is better suited for the job, but we have to wait and see who we replace Stewart with, cause I'm not a fan of Capers or Campo taking over, I'd actually rather see the DL caoch get the job than either of them.

Is Garrett's contract up at the end of 2009 or what? What would be the difference in firing him this year and firing him after next year if that's what will ultimately happen?

I would assume if his contract ends after the 2009 season and they fire him now, they have to pay him the $3 mil he is scheduled to make.

Who are you hoping for?
Garrett or any other young coach. not another 60+ year old coach that will only be here for a couple years.

Kinda fishy this gets confirmed after Garrett staying is basically confirmed.

So basically Capers will be the guy we bring in.

This team still lacks leadership and thats what bothers me about not switching coaches more than anything.

I like Wade but he isn't the type of Coach that the Dallas Cowboys require to have ultimate success.

but at 13-3, we had success and leadership. too many people are inclined to think that the last thing they saw is all there could ever be.

gets old.

Al Saunders as OC is funny he is like Martz send the maximum out in to routes and hope your OL holds long enough so your QB can make the deep throw. The OL in dallas shows it can hold the defense in place long enough for a 5 yard slant.

I'll take an experienced, SUCCESSFUL young coach.

I don't think 60+ coaches will get HC jobs in the future.

Hope Jerry will not give Garrett HC position. He's shown nothing to even deserve a head coaching job here, or anywhere else.

Good job Rams, even though I wanted you to take Garrett. They made wiser descision.

I just want to take a chance on a young coach.

Agreed but this franchise wins Superbowls with Butt Kickers and not Butt Patters.

If the Cowboy hc job opens up during the offseason Shanahan will be coaching in 2009.

I can't imagine Dom Capers taking a job as DC and NOT be calling the defense on Sundays.

Frankly, I'm just as soon we hire a DC from within, a guy who knows the defense, but leaves the actual gameplan and playcalling in Wade's hands. I don't want that to change...that was the lone bright spot with our team.

Im not overly concerned about the Offense but I am worried about some of the things we do offensively.

Jason has to learn that he has to get the ball in Owens hands on shorter routes.

5'10 190lb DB's just don't match up and he can literally bully guys.

Jason is smart enough to figure out his flaws but I just wish Jerry would strike while the Iron is hot and bring in one of the better play callers in the NFL (Shanahan) and stop trying to develop a coach with a team that is ready for bigger things.

Now is not the time to play Patty Cake. We need a strong leader and we dont have that.

Oh you mean this play caller???

Mike Shanahan hasn't called the offensive plays in Denver for nine years.
Admit it: That surprises you.
It stunned me when I learned about it Saturday in Denver. He gave it up after the Broncos started 0-4 in 1999.
Gary Kubiak held the responsibility the longest, before becoming Houston's coach in 2006.
Now it's up to 32-year-old quarterback coach Jeremy Bates, who calls the plays into quarterback Jay Cutler's headset, with Shanahan having the option to overrule him. He rarely does. Shanahan might make a play call or trump Bates' call two or three times a game.

The game plan is a collaborative effort between offensive coordinator Rick Dennison, who is responsible for run plays and protections, and Bates, who draws up the passes.
Shanahan makes some suggestions during the week while the game plan is being formulated, but it's mostly a Dennison/Bates production.
Dennison and Bates also come up with the "First 18," Denver's version of the old Bill Walsh "First 15," when the first 18 offensive snaps of the game are set in stone (except if a third-and-inches call, for instance, has to be made) Dennison and Bates figure out which run plays and pass plays will work best each week against the defense they're playing, then list them by down-and-distance, print them on a laminated play sheet, and call the plays from that sheet on game day. Bates makes the calls, a heavy responsibility for such a young coach. But it's a natural fit. Bates is the one meeting with Cutler all week and finding out what plays he thinks are the best fit for that week's opponent. It makes sense that the coach communicating with Cutler most one-on-one during the week is the one calling the plays into his helmet during games.
