If Big Red goes down in flames at the end of the year along with Shanahan.

Would you hire Mike Shanahan as head coach?

Not sure if Jerry could tango with him though...

I mean, what other credible big names are there?

Cowher? Not coaching. Gruden? MNF and meh. Lovie Smith? If he makes it to the offseason...

Heck no! You see the drama he caused in DC land? And he just benched their franchise QB for Kirk Cousins. Nope, never. Him and Gruden should stay far, far away...

Lovie Smith is the most intriguing if only to spice up the defense, but his offenses never did much in Chicago. Offense might not be much now, but I think it'd take a step backwards with Lovie.

I just saw that Cousins will be starting for the Skins against the Falcons this Sunday.

I actually don't mind the decision to start Cousins... Their season is in the tank, he makes a good point about RGIII's health, and they have a potentially very valuable asset in Cousins that they need to evaluate before he walks. Hell, maybe they do the unthinkable and KEEP Cousins over Griff.

Anyway, the whole drama thing with Snyder is why it would probably never work with Jerry, but I think Shanahan is a good coach.

Personally, I think he's an average coach...who lived off his Elway-led superbowls for years. Offensively, he's decent...and as an OC, I'd consider it. But he was average in Denver after Elway retired...and he's been less than average with a team whose owner has given him everything he's asked for and now he's taking a passive/aggressive coach to getting fired, so he and his son can go con another NFL team into hiring them.

Maybe I give him too much credit for what the Skins did last season, but I was pretty high on him for the way that team played down the stretch. I'm not sure whats going on this year, but it seems like there are externalities contributing to the problem. He'd have his QB here who I would imagine he'd get along with just fine.

There's nothing really external about it. Everything I've read about the team is that the defense is not playing up to the same level as last year. And RGIII hasn't been playing up to the same level as last year, which IMO, is understandable, considering his injury. Everybody's not Adrian Peterson. RGIII may need another year just to participate in the offseason before he's back to his normal.

Based on what you just said I'm not sure I want to blame him, but Skins fans do seem to REALLY hate this guy right now. I was just reading ExtremeSkins (terrible decision), and boy do they hate him haha. He did just bench their savior, and they suck so it's hard to tell with all the dust in the air. He just seems like an intriguing option.

Well consider me not a fan.. But like anything with my teams, I will hold my nose and support if he was brought to the team.

Good Lord no. You think you've got it bad here have you paid any attention to the mess he's got in Washington?

I didn't want him before he went to Washington and I certainly don't want him now.

Do you folks not realize that it doesn't matter who we bring in, jerry's still the owner and GM?

Same goes for jerry stepping down as GM. He's still the owner. The "new" GM will be in title only.

Has anything changed the last 17 years? Except for the team getting worse with supposed better talent? WITH all the coaching changes....................EVERY three years? If that doesn't scream below, sub-par ownership, business culture than you'll need a visual aide. jerry in a coffin.

If he brings in a new HC you'll be paying/rooting for hope again. jerry sells that by the barrel.

Fans are screwed. It isn't going to change until the grand poohbah changes.

BTW - If Shanahan is brought in, and I would hate that, EXPECT team dissention within two years.

I am afraid that you are probably correct. As long as Jerry is making the decisions, this team is likely to go nowhere, no matter who the HC is.

Agreed! Shanahan has always been overrated, and produced nothing but mediocre teams his entire time there, except with Elway. I would want nothing to do with him in Dallas, though I think I remember hearing that he and Jerruh are good buds. Maybe that was someone else though.

This team needs a fresh offensive mind in the worst way. Defensive issues are mostly related to personnel, and its an offensive game no anyway. I'm not really sure who is out there that fits the mold, but this team has gone completely stale, and I think it stems from the offense.

No, because he's as incompetent personnel-wise as aybody else. Plus, the latest article about hm also quitting because of Danny boy is all you need to know how he'll get along with Jerry behind the scenes. The problem is, Jerry needs to blow up his inner circle when he hires hs new coach. Lacewell and Jim Garrett need to hit the high-road.

WG - my opinion is most coaches live off super stars.

Brady retires, do you think Belicheat will still be the best in the biz?

Shanahan used to be a good coach but I think the game has passed him by. It is time to hang em up. He benched RG3 to try and get fired IMO, he wants out.

Word here in Houston is that he wants the Texans job yet they don't want him.

Of course they do, TwoDeep, but just like everyone points out it's been almost 20 years since the Cowboys have made a run. It's been 15 since Shanny & Co. has done the same. He's had some good teams and I'll never knock that, but I've never thought he was the type of coach that we just HAD to get.

I've never said Belichek was the best in the biz, even though he's clearly a good coach. But IMO, he's been blessed with Brady, and that right now Tom Brady is Troy Aikman after free agency broke up the Cowboys. Brady's play will always keep them in contention, even though the talent around him is average. When Brady's gone, I'll be shocked if they remain annual contenders like they are.

I apologize, I am not challenging your belief system.

Shanny does wonders wit the offensive lines and running backs.

So I'd be curious what he could do if he had someone like Romo running his offense.

But for sure what this team needs is a coach that strikes fear in all the players. I don't believe Jerry will ever allow that to happen.

No need to apologize. I was clarifying my position. I realize I'm sharing more opinions lately. So I like to put stuff out there that's in line with my actual thoughts.

Meh, I'll pass. Not a fan. I'd go after his protege Kubiak before Shanny.

Different discussion altogether.
