What would you think about that. The man has to know alittle about an attacking, suffocating defense?

If Capers is not available, Singletary is supposed to be one of the hot new coaches that is going to be great....I want anyone that can create schemes to let our players attack the offense...

Singletary is one of my favorite players to ever watch.

Problem # 1...There is no reason to believe Zimmer is leaving.

Problem #2...He is employed by Cincinnati and cannot opt out unless promoted. DC to DC is not a promotion even if the team and job is more prestigious.

Translation...it ain't happening.

I could get behind that idea but it would be interesting to see how he fit in with a 34. The 46 has characteristics but still, might not be a fit.

If I'm not mistaken, Singletary is a LB coach for SF, not a DC for Cincy.

That said, he has very little coaching experience overall. Not just on defense. That would bother me.

Reasonable. DC to asst head coach is a promotion though. What's in a name? Zimmer probably won't get a HC job though until Dallas is more successful IMO. I could easily be wrong.

That's good for Dallas. I think Zimmer and Parcells make a good team.

Edit: Didn't see the above. I still think we need a very good to great LB coach on this team; a former player.

I agree, he has little experience to be promoted to DC. As far as I know he is the SF, LB coach. He was a great player, maybe he will be a great coach in time.

As I posted in another thread, I'd like to see a very good to great LB as a coach here. That's assuming the guy has the other qualities to make him a good coach. That's impossible for me to know as Parcells could so my wishing a certain player now coach to be here assumes he does have the other qualites.

Maybe that's not a big deal and really doesn't add that much; I guess the bottom line is I want our LBs to be improved as much as possible as this is a weak spot on defense. In fact other than safety this is the only real major hole I see.

But I don't want to hijack the thread so...

It's fun to throw names out, but it would be a promotion from within, likely Bowles.

That being said. I don't see Zimmer leaving. It's not like he's going to get a HC position and I don't think we just flat out fire him.

Actually if you read up on Buddy Ryans old 46 defense its nothing more than a jazzed up version of the 3-4 believe it or not. A VERY attacking 3-4 but a 3-4 nonetheless. In that scheme Dent was actually an O.L.B that lined up on the line of scrimage.Doesnt sound right I know, but IT IS true...

I wouldn't assume that a coach such as Singletary would coach for Parcells. Personalty conflicts need be considered, especially when mentioning well known coordinators and/or former head coaches.

LB/ Asst. Head Coach SF 49ers.

His lack of experience is a bit troubling, but the guy played with a real mean streak...SF does run the 3-4, so he must know a thing or 2 about coaching LB's...with SF id say its more the talent than the coaching that leads them to be so bad right now (Peterson was not 100% this year).

Though he played in the 46, he has coached in SF under Nolan, a good 3-4 coach, for a year now.

Can he scheme a defense, or just play LB, because as of now, he's pretty unproven.

Assistant head coach.

I believe that ends the discussion.

An assistant head coach can be blocked from interviewing for any position. That's why teams had to ask our permission to interview Payton (reports said they asked permission to interview Zim as well but he isn't the assistant HC so it isn't required).

You give a guy this tag so that he can't leave for another coordinator job.

Not going anywhere.
