Mike Zimmer’s 1 Defense

I don't the scheme is old and outdated at all. If your suggestion that Dallas plays the Tampa 2 then you're wrong. Dallas plays out of a nickel with 4 down lineman. The team often has 2 LBers on the field and the DBs play man and not zone. Wasn't Dallas ranked 8th this season? That was an improvement from the year before. I think the problem with the Team is not Rod or the defense. Marinelli preaches for the line to get upfield fast, pressure the QB and gap integrity. He wants the pocket to be pushed straight back on the QB. This philosophy equate to success. It will never be outdated.

The achilles heel this season was player suspensions and injuries, Zeke's drama being a distraction, and the team's continuity being disrupted after Leary left and Smith going down. There are zero excuse for the performance this season and the focus has to be the Superbowl.

Take the Patriots. They expect A superbowl every season, just like Landry and Johnson did. The Dallas team will be contenders next season.

If zimmer loses today it will have been 20 years since he has been on a staff that won a playoff game. He was the dB coach in 98 when Dallas beat Minnesota in the wild card round.

I am pulling for Minnesota today. I want Newman to get a ring and I don’t think New Orleans can beat Philly.

Tend to agree but also think Payton will draw up a plan to offset Philly D , and Brees with more experience will not be fooled by Philly .

Biggest factor could be weather for either dome team

Hope you are right. To me D is trending up. O scheme and better protection on passing downs for Dak are keys

If I were Zimmer I would open the roof today!!

I like Zimmer but his last 4 years is almost identical to Garrett...

Down year
Up year—-loss in playoffs.
Down year
Up year

I would take him over Garrett because I think it’s good to have a defensive minded head coach but I believe he is more envied by Cowboys fans because he was our coordinator not that long ago...not on his actual accolades. He’s still 0-1 in the playoffs and hasn’t put together two good seasons.

Now on the other hand...I am rooting for the Vikings from here on out so I hope he makes me envy him like other Cowboy fans do.

Next week's game is gonna be in the 50's. Supposed to be nice weather in Philadelphia.
Yea but Atlanta’s defense hung in there and played a good game.

I don’t think New Orleans can hold up in the weather and play defense physically the way Atlanta did for four quarters.

The flip side to that is if New Orleans were to get a 10 point lead philly would be forced to put the game in Foles hands and that would probably lead to problems for philly.

Supposed to be over 50 next Sunday, with little wind. It won't be anything like the game yesterday. Yesterday it was 50 at dawn and started dropping immediately, I think it was down to 30 before the game started. And it was windy.

Zimmer never blitzed when he was here and on 3rd and 3 CBs played 10 yards off.

When he did blitz they were easily telegraphed. I think Marvin Lewis is a huge reason for the difference we see now

It couldn’t be that our wonderful GM gave him no talent to work with, could it?

I mean I know Mario Edwards and Derek Ross were the Xavier Rhodes’ of their times and all that....

The GROZ movement was the size of the current Garrett movement. With less reason for it.

It’s almost like mobs don’t always make well-thought out decisions. Which is weird, if you stop and think about why that may be.
I'd like to place you on my tactical command staff,,,if& when needed,,,o_O

:lmao::starspin::lmao:

I think we have tremendous talent on defense right now. But our scheme is old, outdated and already been figured out.

The defensive calls are also being made by a guy who, lets be honest here, has never been a great defensive coordinator.

I’d love to see what Zimmer could do with all this great young talent we have
Zimmer's schemes on both sides of the field are extremely similar to the ones the Cowboys run. Zimmer copied the TB scheme and tweaked it for his personnel back when he was here with the Cowboys and had Norv install his offense with the vikings but has Pat Shurmur now running it.

The Vikings show what the Cowboys could be if Garrett would wake up in the 21st century.

So after a little research, here is what I found:

Dallas
2000- 19th
2001- 4th
2002- 18th
2003- 1st
2004- 16th
2005- 10th
2006- 13th

Atlanta
2007- 29th

Bengals
2008- 12th
2009- 4th
2010- 15th
2011- 7th
2012- 6th
2013- 3rd

Minnesota
2014- 14th
2015- 13th
2016- 3rd
2017- 1st

I could’ve swore Dallas had more than one #1 defense in the Campo years
The were #1 in 2003 running the 4-3 with Parcells as HC and Zimmer as DC.

Parcells changed to the 3-4 anyway...
