Newman didn't have a chance on Burress over the shoulder catch.

A perfect throw beats perfect coverage. Newman couldn't have covered it any better.

i'm not worried about newman. he gave up the one big pass to burress but was in good position it was just a perfect pass. cb's will have completions on them. this is the nfl and these guys are pro's too.

Please stop confusing the mob with facts and get more torches lit.

I think he should hand out pitchforks instead

That wasn't a quick slant. It was a 10-yard curl, and both cornerbacks were playing 5 yards off the ball.

Does it actually matter if it was a slant or a curl? My point had nothing to do with the actually route ran, but the fact that Newman wasn't playing tight coverage instead he was playing soft.

Some people just want to argue the little things...

Problem was it wasn't a perfect throw or prefect coverage and this play could have been broken up. Mistakes happen and I won't crucify a player for a single play. Now Watkins has blown 4 long TD plays in 3 games. Someone setup up the cross and I'll get the nails.

I was referencing the 40 some yarder to Burress. Quite simply that play couldn't have be defended any better. Newman was stride for stride with him using the sidelines well as the extra defender. The only way that ball's completed is if it was in a one yard window over his outside shoulder.

I'd give any QB in the world that throw 10 times and they won't make it on 7 or 8 of them.

Well, when you're referencing a particular play, it helps to get it right so people know which play you're talking about.

For example, if I chose to bash Anthony Henry for his terrible play on a Tiki Barber run on third down, I'm sure people would want to know which one it was. If I said it was the run on third-and-16, I'd be wrong, and people would think my argument had no merit. If I said it was the run three plays before that, then people could watch it and see how Henry initially ran himself out of the play when he was unblocked and could have stopped Barber and gotten us the ball back again with good field position before halftime.

You said Newman played soft and allowed a third-down catch on a quick slant. Well, how should I know which play that was? He didn't allow a third-down catch, and the Giants never completed a slant. Yeah, that's a little thing all right -- it's only the entire basis of your original statement.

My point had nothing to do with the actually route ran, but the fact that Newman wasn't playing tight coverage instead he was playing soft.

You con't have your cornerbacks playing tight on every play. You've got to mix it up. And I don't think you have Newman play tight against Burress very often. It's not like he's going to knock him off his route easily.

Awww. Why don't I ever get picked to hand out the pitchforks?

All I ever get to do is mill around mumbling.

Did you ever consider that Newman isn't strong enough to play that type of coverage on Burress? Because he isn't, and that's why he didn't.
