Milton will push the cowboys over the top

All fair, but IS he a backup? or a developmental guy?

There’s a difference. Rush was a backup, Lance was a developmental guy.

Last year, with the season lost when Dak went down, they traded yet another 4th for a WR well on his way to bustville, then said Rush would start because they were trying to win games.

Have they done a 180 on this idea? Is the guy they paid even less for going to start if it happens the same way this year? What if they are 4-2 and Dak is out for 2-3 games? Milton or the veteran?

My complaint isn’t about Milton. I like him and have heard good things from people I respect. My issue is their plan is all over the damn map. They shouldnt have resigned Dak, at least not when they did, if this was how they wanted to go.

Even if Milton gets the shot to prove himself and does, there’s no way of escaping the massive dead money, void years, and no avenue at all to take advantage of Milton’s rookie deal.

I’m really mixed. Happy to have him here at that price, wish our FO could see more than one move ahead at times.
I think right now we want him to be the backup. Hopefully, we learned our lesson with Lance and will actually give Milton plenty of opportunity to show whether we need to go get a veteran or give him a shot to be the No. 2 at the start of the season.

I don't think they'll go with Milton as the No. 2 IF he tanks the preseason. But I'll be surprised if we add a veteran before then. There's no reason to not give him a long look.

We know what Grier can do, so he can work cleanup, or some UDFA we sign can work cleanup. Dak is not going to play during the preseason, so the first quarter and possibly the first half of each preseason games will be Milton's showcase.

If we go get a veteran before camp after this signing, then I will question what the plan is. Right now, I think the plan is to give him a shot at No. 2 before making any other moves.

Well...lets hope we strike lighting with Joe...you never know....I'm still hoping for Arch...but I know jerah and son will blow that too...

That all works. Ultimately the cost was not all that high, but they DO need to have some sort of if/then flowchart type plan, and I’m having a tough time believing that they actually do.

I’d say best case is Dak goes down for 3-5 games, this season or next, Milton gets a shot to show what he can do, plays well, then maybe approach Prescott about a different direction for each side, which also depends on Prescott showing he can still play with the hammy, and very likely Dallas eating some salary.

Bear in mind this pretty much takes us out of acquiring another developmental guy along the way, but I guess that’s ok. He has skills no doubt.

Boomer Esiason and Phil Simms love Milton FWIW. Those two might have an idea as to what they are looking at.

Milton has to develop relationships with the players and the coaches. He needs to practice and study so when his number is called he will be ready. Milton starting over Dak is a dream now. His goal needs to be win the 2nd string quarterback job.

He’s exactly the playmaker we need. Reminds me of a mix between Vick and Herbert

It will be an exciting day as a cowboys fan to see this guy starting. Get him another weapon, and I see a top 5 offense.

I’m just happy we have hope for the future and #4’s days are looking to be numbered.
Two guys who never want anything. Brilliant post.

We get a new QB and all of a sudden Trey Lance Part 2. begins? Let's wait and see him play a bit!!

I understand the excitement, but let's pump the brakes!! (Pump the brakes, sounds like a good thread to start!)
I mean why?

We have so little to be excited about. Can't we manufacture some of it...and grab what little happiness and fun we can get?

Cowboys should hire Garrett as a clapping consultant so they can get the best out of Milton from the sideline.

I hope so for Cowboys sake.

But Cowboys fans reek of desperation and we just need to be careful with the anointing oil.

Its been 30 years and none of the QB who have come and gone have been able to do it with Jerry at the helm

I hope this is sarcasm.
