You make a lot of good points and I don't disagree with much except that you overrate Dak Prescott and his impact on the team.He probably did talk himself out of it because he's very aware of the lack of quarterbacks in the nfl I mean top 10 quarterbacks don't curl on trees prescott's not the sole reason we've been failing in the playoffs just like Romo wasn't that is also on Jerry for not building the trenches better especially on defense you have to run the football you have to stop the run you have to play defense almost none of that shows up in the playoffs and then the quarterback gets blamed but let me give you some facts..
Now this is not an opinion prescott good enough to start for most of the teams in the NFL outside the top ten there'd be some conversations at least five teams but could have been at least eight teams this off season that would have bid for his services if he didn't get signed he would have been a free agent. like that's it a free agent he there was number leverage that Jerry had he would have lost Prescott prescott would have been a Pittsburgh Steeler or somebody else would have grabbed him up and also paid him the same money and let him put that in their contract jerrys not stupid and fans might be delusional if they don't think he'd have been playing somewhere else.
Which by the way,
I would have been ok with that but this is when Jerry decided he was keeping Prescott when he signed lamb I believe he was on the fence on both of them I think Jerry was seriously thinking about blowing this thing up.
Truly believe the reason they didn't get signed until right before the season is because he was thinking of letting both play out their contracts seeking trays got rid of Diggs literally would have also traded Parsons and do we would have just started this whole thing all over and I would have been OK with that because that would be the best thing to do you to keep them all or you start over...
.. But once you sign lamb I knew everyone else was getting signed it would have been ridiculous you can't sign your best receiver and then let your quarterback walk and he would have walked he would not have been playing around he tired of this they did this to him and made him play on a franchise tag the first time around and they messed around and they didn't come to him early they didn't give enough respect to offer him a 6 year contract at a very good rate they made him play on a franchise tag he had his ankle snapped off and he made a conscious decision right there that his contract was going to have no trade clause in it and no franchise tag clauses in it because he didn't like the way Jerry does business so he stuck it to Jerry,
Prescott had every right to do so prescott was not worried at all playing for another team this season I think he came to terms with that because of the way Jerry does business you can't keep allowing your stars going this late into the offseasons and not signing them or at least trying to sign in the year before and then have the nerve to franchise tag your quarterback which almost never happens in the nfl and then wait till he snaps his ankle off and then pays him and yes Prescott rewarded him with a 37 touchdown and 10 interception season in 2021..
But fans can't have it both ways they can't say yeah we should move on from Prescott and then keep everyone else nope if you truly need all your draft picks and rebuild it starts with finding another quarterback you need draft capital and there's no reason to be paying all these high contracts why you're rebuilding a team..
I said this last year right around this same time while Lamb was holding out and while Prescott was dangling out there on his last year... I said it's all or nothing and as a fan I would have been ok with either direction and here we are so I'm ok with all of this...
And that's why going back to what you said I believe it came down to the last second to get these guys signed because they were teetering on not signing them but that's the thing because of all that Hesitation they forgot to have an offseason he was so torn between get getting Prescott a new contract and deciding on lamb that he allowed the whole entire offseason to go by and really didn't do anything everyone says it's by design no I don't think he was by design I really believe he was really close to blowing this whole thing up and then got scared and then got everyone signed and here we are.... I believe our terrible off season wasn't to tank Mike McCarthy I believe he was so distracted by what to do that he just forgot he just basically couldn't focus on anything else..
But now as fans what exactly can you do prescott's here lands here parsons is about to get signed osa New Deal. We basically have probably a two year window and there's nothing that the haters can do if you don't like it that Prescott's here is too bad the reality is he is here...
They had a better offseason it still isn't great but it was a lot better they gave Prescott another weapon they tried to improve his offensive line so here we are let's see how it works out..
The team had a higher % winning record in completed games with a washed Andy Dalton in the same season over Dak Prescott and it wasn't too dissimilar with a practice squad quarterback in Cooper Rush. Of course neither of those two were/are the answer - they earned peanuts and their play mostly reflected the same and there were other factors in play but generally that's quite alarming to me.
How many games has Dak Prescott helped the Cowboys come back from when the team is losing by 10+ points...
So I think ok maybe Prescott is worth being paid as the highest player per year in NFL history for his playoff performances...obviously not given his performances in the last three losses and his overall playoff record!
He will put up good stats next season as he has a high quality receiving duo and I see the O line being just fine. Another Cousins type season. But it won't matter when it actually comes to the team being a genuine contender with him at quarterback.
Yet ironically he should be called Mr Irrelevant not Brock Purdy.
